The batarang is excellent, but can anyone do more superhero efects? Such as Spider-man web shooting, Wolverine claws extending, Smallville runing effect... These would be very cool to have.

I remember reading about a Spiderman plugin that was in the works. A forum search showed it in the "Plugins that Never Happened" list (or something along those lines).

Anyone remember Spiderman's web shooting from the "Electric Company"? That would be a great humor type plugin, along the lines of the Batman words I guess.

Of course, the fact that I rmember the Electric Company at all makes me feel way too old. Never mind Spiderman, it makes me depressed now... smile

What I am looking for is something similar to the scene in X-MEN, when wolverines claws come out of his hands.

Would anyone be able to reccommend a program that would simulate the claws coming out? OTHER then photoshop and having to draw them in frame by frame?

If you need a Picture I am sure I can come up with one. Email me at cptnchaos1@collegeclub.com

Thanks!!

Probaly be pretty easy doing it in a 3D program, just model a reflective claw shape and have get bigger as coming out of the knuckels...

If you post an image i'm sure someone would make a plug-in for you.

Who made the Phantasm Ball plugin....was it Animaster, Axeman or Fallen. There is a similar effect in that plugin. Contact one of those guys, i'm sure they'll help you out.

The Phantasm Ball was done by Animaster. That blades-sliding-out thingy that he used will not work for a wolverine plug-in, though. The deal is, the phantasm blades hide behind the ball when they are in. With wolverine's claws, there is nothing to put them behind, so you would have to animate them sliding out.

The other difficulty with this would be matching it up to the footage. You would have to film the scene to fit the plug-in, so that the angle was right, and then the actor would have to make sure not to turn his hand at all. Unless the claws came out really fast, I suspect the result would be a little cheesy. However, that has never stopped me before. biggrin biggrin I don't have time to figure this one out right now, though. Sorry.

Maybe later...

Please don't think that I think this is not a good idea, though. the effect would be awesome, I just haven't come up with a satisfactory way to do it as an AlamDV plug-in. I hope someone figures it out, though.

Like I said... I HAVE a pair of movie Wolverine claws. I just need a way to show them coming out. I will most likely end up just doing them in some 3D studio to fit the scene.

All I needed was a quick clip of them coming out / stop camera / put on REAL claws / start filming again.

Thanks anyway.

Yeah, if you have a 3D program you can use, then that would be the way to go on this, I'm thinking. I will still try to come up with something, but it is not high on my list of priorities right now.

Nah......it makes total sense..........I suppose you could "draw" the claws as separate sections of a plugin in the various stages and put them in one frame at a time. Very tedious and it would look like hell withou Onion Skinning...................is this another reason we need this!!!!!!!!

What about a "Spidey Web"? is that doable? lol

Have you ever skinned an onion? If you have you may have noticed that the skin is semi-transparent. Basically onionskinning is a technique which makes your current frame semi-transparent, so that you can see where your effect was in the previous frame. You would use it to make sure the claws were placed in the proper position. 'Cause if you have an earlier frame for reference, getting them in the right spot is way easier.

Comprende?

just like animators use when drawing to make sure they keep the same size, location etc...

It was a feature in ALAMDV 1. VERY useful. Total bummer that it wasn't included. It's very hard..........no........almost impossible to get Lightswords to look as nice in Version 2. Between you and I, when I do Lightswords, I do them in Version 1 and use Version 2 for the other stuff. Maybe Schwar will give us back the "Onion".........but he's got a lot on his plate.

If you have After Effects, the claws are pretty easy, if the shot isn't angled too much. An image of the claws done in photoshop could be extended from the hand, sliding out from between overlayed layers of the hand.

I did a similar effects with a sword being drawn through a clenched fist, slicing off the fingers. It's fooled most people who've seen it.

What happened to the spiderman one?

With the new movie out, what about:

- A Glider (green goblin)
- A green goblin mask
- pumpkin bombs

- spiderman's big web (to catch people)
- spiderman's shooting web (just something like a rope)

I think the Spiderman ones are an almost must do at this stage (look at me..........being all greedy..........hey Neo..........why don't you do it then!!!!...........cause Neo is an idiot and doesn't do 3D!) redface

IS it possible for someone to make an Eyebeam effect similar to Supermans Heat vision?

- A glowing effect like that of the lightbulb, just have it "GLOW" and be able to be enlarged. Not cast light. AND have all of the various colors, green, red, yellow, orange etc...

- heat wave ripple effects... simulating the effect of ... well something HOT.

- Shockwave effects, somethign that will cause a Ripple effect like a Shock wave.

Hows the Wolverine Claw plugin or the Spiderman webbing plugin coming along?? Is anyone working on them?

THanks!

Yeah.......it's easier said than done. Like how the hell you would make it look like it's actually coming out of something! I understand your dilemma. I can't think of a way to do it. Check out the Phantasm Ball plugin. You use the sliders inside ALAMDV to control the blades moving in and out. That is about the only way I can think to actually stretch the effect out without it looking all grainy and messy. Although I'm not sure how you'd do it with the web. If I think of something else I'll let you know. Chances are it'll be about as useless as this. wink

Axeman,

The difference between the webbing is simple. The original artist (can't remember the names) drew the webline without those little coils around the middle sections you see. It looked just like a striaght white line. Mc Farlane drew those crazy "ringlets" up and down the web. Much cooler! lol wink

I for one would like the obvious feature. Web shooting outward. But some other things that would be cool would be Web hitting/sticking to an object. A net to catch people and objects with. Web pulling an object... This is a difficult plugin because there are so many combinations and all of them are hard to make. Anyone here get what I'm saying? There are going to have to be multiple plugins to get the full effect of your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man...

Ohh! One more idea just hit me... what about a "spider sense" plugin? You know, those wavy lines around spidey's head when he senses danger? Ehh, I don't know, maybe thats a stupid idea.

Yes, it will be hard. But not impossible, I think. Also, some of that can be done more easily by keyframing motion in AlamDV than by animating the plug-in itself.

This will probably take awhile.

Thought you guys might like an update on the Spider-man web plug-in. I am partially done with it, and I think everything is going well. I am animating the web by hand (with paper and pencil), then I will shoot it into my computer with a DV Camera, and manipulate the pictures individually to create a transluscent milky texture. Right now I am still drawing. I'll keep you posted.

Right on Axeman! Sorry about those pics. I'm up and running again (finally). I can probably get them again but it sounds like you're ok on that front. Let me know if it's different. Good luck.

Oh, by all means send them over, Neo. I am doing pretty good on the basic web shooting out, but for the other variations I could use more reference material.

I had trouble with it on one of my iMacs Axe. It worked fine on the other 2. I'm sure it was the system, but who knows. The one you have up on your iTools site is great. Nice work. Cheers.

OK, here's what I've got going. The first web plug-in will just be a web shooting straight out, with several variations. I've been quite busy ately, which is why it has taken so long, but I'm really going to try and get it submitted tonight.

Future web plug-ins I have planned are: A web shooting out and hitting (sticking to) something. A web stuck to something, which then gets pulled, so the web will go slack as the object it is connected to flies across the screen. A web hanging from something which kind of waves back and forth, like if he swung from it and then let go, so it slowly swings to a stop.

Please keep in mind that these are very difficult and will take a long time. Once I get the first one submitted, please give me some feedback on what you like and what you think should be changed. Also, any other variations you would like to see, and I'll let you know if they are feasable.

Me and my mouth, I should have read this one first. That sounds wicked. You guys work hard, no doubt about that. What 3D apps would you suggest learning? I'm going to enroll part time in an animation course at a College here in Toronto. They offer a 3D Studio Max "track" or a Maya "track". What should I do (I can't learn both apps.).

HI

I have the claws ( wolverine ) people have suggested making these.

But i can't work out how best to angle them, they would need to change angle if the actor moved his hand, ?

Any suggestions please.

Instead of animating them to move with someone's hand, just animate them coming out fast. This way, the viewer will only get a second to notice the effect. Plus it just looks more intense than claws "slowly" coming out of the actor's hand. Also, don't make them grey. Make them metallic. I would suggest doing angles of the claws facing towards the camera and away from the camera. Not aiming, but facing. Maybe a few other angle variations and it might turn out to be an awesome plugin. Good luck, hope it turns out well. wink

I think the way to do it would be to presume the film maker is going to do an "arial" flat hand shot from above. If you made the plug in so it was see from this above view, then the plug in could be rotated for any angle the film maker used.

Make sense?

I also agree - keep the crappy porn stuff away. I am a teacher with students who use this site - we DO NOT need it. Our district school system bans porn sites and sites assoicated - the last thing I want is to see the alamdv web site banned for general use by our system. KermZ

Sorry to say, there is no news yet. I have been negligent with regard to the web plug-ins, and have made no progress whatsoever. Yet. Maybe I will get a chance soon.
