Please be a little more descriptive.

Is it human trying to look like a torch...weird idea.

Is it a person being burned like fuel, as in the roman persecutions of the christians?

Or is it a animated torch that talks like a human. wink

Probably thinking like the Fantastic 4 character, yes?

This would typicically be done in CG.
A mesh of a person, covered in particle emitters that emit ... well.... fire.

No, not easy, but perhaps do-able with some nice filter for the skins and varying stock footage clips.

i dont think stock footage would work becuase when the human torch moved, the flames would not stretch ( you know what what i mean, like if you waive a candle and the flame moves a little) i think you need to use the particle system.

Ha ha ha...I would be smacking myself, but my defense is I never watched Fantastic Four and I don't read comics.

hey y'all;

(sorry i havnt been around for a while, but i have been upgrading my pc and tstuff, ill post a new topic about that later)

hmmm, this isnt tyhat easy at all really, the emiiter in effectslab is very good but i am sure if you want this too look good, you will need a much better programl; and this will not be easy to do:

PadawanNick is right, CG is the best way to do this shot;

there are a couple of hings you will have to do to get this shot;

Camera tracking (Match moving)
Compositing between Cg and real footage
A CG character
Fire
(to do this - I would make a cloth around the cg person that has emitters built into it, which is like what PadawanNick suggested)

that sounds easy, but its not, you need alot of Cg knowledge, match moving knowledge and compositing knowledge to look good.

I would like to see some tests of your trying to do this in effects lab.

(Oh yer, another thing when the fire totrch thing moves so will the dynamics of the fire, this is why you would have to do this with a particles not stock footage)

hope i helped; and good luck:

yes the fire could be made with particle illusion, but how would you get a 3d character in it?

please, if you think you can do it, show us

right,

I will show you when is ready, the character for my film is just like the human torch and i'm still working on it.

As you may know you can't import movies into PI, so what i'm doing is rendering one flame particle, then compositing it into the footage and just making lots of copies to place on your character.

of course, if you have one of the fxhome software (alamDV or EffectsLab) you can make it easier.

as for the motion, you either create an emitter and copy the movement of the character (it might be helpful to open windows media player to use the movie as reference) or try motion blur

hope this sums it up

crazy

I am really confused over this statement, I just wanted to know do you mean you can not import .mov files as that is right you can't but you can still import .avi, so you still can import movies. Sorry it is just that I also have particleIllusion (I also have had some of my emitters released in a couple of the monthly emitters, and I have my own emiiter libraries on my site) and I just thought that what uou said wasn't 100% true, but I am sorry if you knew smile

I would also say particleIllusion is a very good way to go to get the effect your looking for but I perasonally would say that it would take 5 minutes, obviously you can get something good looking in 5 minutes, but I would probably say take a little bit longer so that you can perfect the effect and have something amazing smile

maximus14 - Yes I am 100% sure that you can import AVI, as I am always using & playing around with particleIllusion, basically you just right click on the "bg" icon and then select "Background Image" and then you just browse for the file you want to import smile

Hope this helps smile

Looks pretty neat. The start up didn't look so great mainly becasue you could see where they were. I would also look better if you added in some different fire effects instead of the same one over and over... mix in a few different flames and you could get a better look result. Anyways it looked good, I'd love it see it applied to a video. If you ever get around to that then post the link i would love to see it.
