One of the best things about working at FXhome is being able to interact with the community and watch what you guys come up with, from effects presets to full blown movies.

Two community members in particular have been hard at work recently on projects that will help every FXhomer. Their contributions are so damn good, we simply had no choice other than to talk about them in the news.

The Biggest Particle Effects Tutorial Ever by Axeman

Axeman has been investigating EffectsLab's particle system for the last few weeks, seeing how far he can push it. We've been following his experiments with great interest, especially as he chose one of the most difficult areas of computer generated effects - fire.

His results are extremely impressive and he's been kind enough to draw up a full tutorial on the process. It's a great tutorial that serves both as a general introduction to particle effects and a specific guide to creating CG fire.

Click here to read the tutorial. We highly recommend it!

MOVCreator by Hendo

Some of you may have already discovered Hendo's handy utility, which can take an image stream and convert it into a single Quicktime movie file.

This is of particular interest to people wanting to convert the old AlamDV2 plugins into a more convenient format. Simply run them through MOVCreator to get a nice, tidy .mov that you can import into your FXhome product.

Hendo's still working on improving the program, so be sure to keep checking back for all the latest updates.

Click here to head over to the official MOVCreator page.

We'd like to say an extra special thanks to Hendo and Axeman for their brilliant work. Also thanks to everyone that has submitted presets for the new products - there's been some great stuff so far, with more to come!

I just want to point out that I had lots of feedback and help during the development of this effect from Schwar, Tarn, Malone and Cogz of the FXhome crew, as well as many of the other beta testers, including Xcession, Arktic, Er-no, Sollthar, Hybird-Halo, Hendo, Averagejoe, Fallen, Nagual, and possibly others that slip my mind right now.

Thanks for the help, guys.

That's probably the best particle fire effect I've seen!
Thanks for the tutorial which is incredibly well put together. Maybe it should be incorporated into the manual as it illustrates just how powerful the software is.

I'm amazed biggrin

Axeman even amazed the FXhome team with his muzzle flashes and particle fire. I can't wait to see what he comes up with next. Thanks for making us look good wink

When it comes to Hendo's (our head beta tester) MOVCreator utility - I like it so much I have it on my desktop smile. Hendo is a busy man but I think he intends to make it even easier to convert old AlamDV2 plugins in the future, something which will save us all a lot of time and hassle!

Very very nice. Tutorial is amazing. If I didn't know better, I would think the flames were real. I mean, really perfect.

And the program; excellent. Nicely done.

Oh, and the 'Without Denzel Washington' line is pure genious. It made me chuckle heartily.

Whoa, realistic CGI fire is exactly what I needed! I was looking into stock footage, but now I can use this too. Thanks a lot!

This is awesome. You took the particle system to a new level. Particle specific programs generally don't provide such great results.

Exactly! I'm quite new at this too. And just by this tutrial my effects look more realistic,

Great news, I hadn't seen the tutorial. Must try it now! Thanks a lot!

Hendo's program didn't work on my computer for some reason, as I reported in the thread ages ago. But I will format my hard drive soon, so it will hopefully work then. It's handy to have all the AlamDV-plugins as mov-files in a folder rather then importing image stream. I guess I could convert in VidionLab... but that's slow. smile

Not for long!

We're working on the render engine for the programs and we are hoping for some decent speed improvements in some areas, we'll keep you posted.

Just an FYI: MOVCreator 1.1 is available. It supports batch conversion of AlamDV2 plugins (just point it at your 'plugins' folder and it'll do the rest...) as well as the ability to open movie files (not just image streams). So you can open an AVI and export it to a MOV. Or re-encode MOV files.

I saw that in another thread, it's great! The worst part of all FXHome software is the rendering i think, so i think you are doing exactly the right thing!
