If you are having strange error messages on startup, please try performing a clean install of EffectsLab using the following procedures:

Note: Always install and run the program for the first time from an admin account, so that you have full access to your computer system.

There are several things to check:

* Install the software to an account on your computer that has full administrator permissions and access.
* Run the software from the same account it is installed to.
* Disable the 'FileVault' system (Mac only).
* Try fixing your permissions using Disk Utility (Mac only).

PC users

1. Uninstall the program.

2. Delete the 'FXhome' folder in your 'My Documents'.

3. Delete this folder:

• Windows XP:
C:\Documents and Settings\<your user name>\Local Settings\Application Data\EffectsLab Pro 1.5

• Vista or Windows 7:
C:\Users\<your user name>\AppData\Local\EffectsLab Pro 1.5

Note: This folder may be hidden, in which case you'll need to have it displayed using your Folder Options.

4. Important: Re-download the latest installer from your My Programs page at FXhome.com.

5. Make sure you have the latest version of DirectX installed.

6. Make sure you have the latest version of Quicktime installed.

7. Run the installer and follow the instructions to activate your product.

Mac users

1. Delete the program from your "Application" folder.

2. Go to your "Home" folder then "Documents" and delete the "FXhome" folder.

3. Go back to your "Home" folder and then in to "Library" and then "Preferences". Delete the "EffectsLab 1.5" folder.

4. Important: Re-download the latest installer from your My Programs page at FXhome.com.

5. Make sure you have the latest version of Quicktime installed.

6. Run the installer and follow the instructions to activate your product.

I don't believe these instructions are fully good for Vista. In an attempt to do a clean re-install of the demo version to see if that cleans up the performance problems I noticed the differences.

I believe that the folder mentioned in the "C" drive is really just the documents folder on the desktop in Vista now.

Also, the uninstall program does not to a good job of cleaning things up in Vista. It left a folder of textures and presets, etc., on the C drive in the programs directory as well as leaving a folder on the Start Menu. I had to delete both manually.

Hi bart - we only just started supporting Vista with the latest release, so there may indeed be some leftover stuff that needs updating. We'll look into this and update the clean reinstall instructions.

Yes, I realize you just started support for Vista. I just thought it may be of use to know what is happening. My biggest concern is getting the program to run at the performance level I'm sure it is capable of so I want to be sure there are no left over bits ruining the parade.

I need help getting EffectsLab to run properly on Windows Vista.

I purchased EffectsLab in Aug. 2007 for my son’s birthday to run on his Gateway MT3705/Genuine Intel CPU laptop running Windows Vista Home Premium. The FX site did not list Vista as a supported operating system at the time, BUT Windows Vista was listed by FX as an OS choice in the “check out” screen upon purchase, so we believed it would work.

The program installed and worked, but every time the program was closed and we tried to re-open it, we got an error message stating “Invalid program key file. Please contact FXhome support!”. We spent hours performing clean re-installs using the instructions in the support forum and instructions emailed to us by customer support personnel. I finally gave up and installed the program on an older computer running Windows XP, but never really used it because that computer did not support the video files well.

I was delighted to see that FX now supports Windows Vista (as of Dec. 2007), and today I tried again to complete uninstall/re-install on the Gateway laptop running Vista that we originally bought the EffectsLab program for. I know that we are only licensed to run the program on one computer, but I am not going to delete it from the XP computer until it is fully functional on the laptop running Vista.

Long story short – numerous uninstalls and clean installs and 3 hours later – we still get the same error message we got in Aug. 2007. The program seems to install properly and runs fine immediatley after install. We can add effects, render, and save. But as soon as the program is closed and we try to reopen it, it says “Invalid program key file. Please contact FXhome support” and is unusable. I have tried downloading the key file to the desktop as listed, and also tried putting it in the FX file that automatically saves under Documents in Vista. Neither works. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Are you installing the program to an account with full admin privileges? And are you then running the program from the exact same account?

Thanks for responding. Yes, there is only one account on the laptop computer running Windows Vista and the account has full administrator rights. That's the account we install EffectsLab on when we have this problem.

Same here I have a Dell Percision 390 running Vista. When I originally installed this program it opened up fine. Once I closed it out and wanted to begin working in the morning it would not open. It's the Holdiday Weekend so first thing Tuesday I will be calling Customer Service again. I have already left 2 messages for them to return my call. If the problem can't be fixed then I will be asking for a full refund. It states on the site that this program Composite Lab Pro is supported by Vista. if I knew I would need to go through this then i would have never ordered it. The error message for me is (Script Error/Director Error)

Corner Show - have you tried performing a clean reinstall as described here:

http://fxhome.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=28296

CompositeLab Pro is indeed supported by Vista. Are you sure you installed it to an administrator account, and that you're running it from that same administrator account?

Reinstalled a few times... I am having the "invalid files present" problem as well yet I'm running a Windows XP and it just happened one day. It worked one day and next it didn't. I had made no dramatic changes. I feel like there is some file somewhere hidden but I don't know where to look. A I am only user on this computer and I have downloaded newest versions of everything. Please help!
Haven't been able to fix for way to long!

Other things worth checking:

* Did you install the software to an account on your computer that has full administrator permissions and access?
* Are you running the software from the same account it was installed to?
* Make sure the 'FileVault' system is turned off (Mac only).
* Try fixing your permissions using Disk Utility (Mac only).

One thing worth trying is to create a new administrator account on your computer and install the program to there. If it works, then you know that there's a problem with your other account.

My EffectsLab Pro kept coming up with Script Error, continue?

Ofcourse, I followed these instructions, but it still doesn't work, and every time I open it, it says Where is image_icons? or something like that. Please help, I spent £90 on this product and I did fix the same problem before, but it's not working this time.

gamesmaster369 - Are you sure you are downloading a new version of the latest installer when you perform the clean re-install? And are you sure you are installing it from an account on your computer with full admin access?

If so, can you please double-check the error message you are getting and provide the exact wording for us? Thanks.

Actually I'm having the same error message and I'm on MAC OS X. I'm days away from tossing this fine program because it hasn't worked in a few months. Can anyone help?!? I've clean installed twice and it still won't work.

This is not the correct thread for discussing specific problems. Please post a new thread clearly describing the errors you are getting, and exactly when you are getting them, and we can help you sort it out.
