If you thought the previous program updates were good, you ain't seen nothing yet.

We're currently adding the finishing touches to the biggest update so far and we think you're going to like it. Although there's a few weeks to go until it is ready, we couldn't keep it under wraps any longer and just had to tell somebody about it.

FXhome.com revamp

Before we take a look at the forthcoming update, we need to mention the FXhome.com website, which has recently undergone something of a behind-the-scenes renovation.

In your website user options you can now find more details on your FXhome.com purchases and registered products, which should make retrieving lost keys much easier.

If you're one of the new 'FXhomer' customers, don't forget that you can change to a more unique forum name by visiting your options page!

Visitors to the FXhome.com Store will see that we now recommend PayPal for transactions, as they offer a friendly service and standard online credit card payment (they no longer require you to create a PayPal account). Expect more improvements to the FXhome.com shopping experience later in the year.

Coming soon to a program near you...

Hold onto your hats, chaps. We've got some good stuff on the way. So without further ado, here's a quick sneak preview at what you can look forward to:

All FXhome products

Improved mask interface - Our products have always had a good masking system but we thought there was still room for improvement.

As such, we've added circle and square shapes and a proper browser. The new shapes can be manipulated using the standard canvas quad interface.

Interface enhancements - We've put in quite a few new bits and pieces to make workflow even smoother. One of our favourites is the ability to update all quad animation keyframes at once. This means that if you place lots of animation keyframes, then realise you want the whole thing shifted to the left slightly, you don't have to go and change every single keyframe. Instead, you can adjust a single keyframe and the rest will update automatically.

Numerous fixes and tweaks - Based on everyone's feedback since the last update we've been working to fix all reported issues. All programs benefit from the most reliable version to date.

Pro products and VisionLab HD

Grade objects - Ever wanted to grade several objects at once, without having to apply filters to every single one? Well, now you can.

Grade objects are a new effects engine that can be placed anywhere on the timeline and affect any object underneath. They can use any of the available grade and composite filters and can also be fully masked. One nifty side effect is that you can now apply multiple composite filters by using extra grade objects - good news if you need light spill and glow at the same time!

Object masks - These open up a whole new world of possibilities, allowing you to take the alpha data from one object and apply it to another. In practice, that means you could key an actor against greenscreen, then apply that information to a particle effect, creating a human shaped cluster of particles. Click the image to the left to check out another example.

CompositeLab Pro and VisionLab HD

Colour gradients - This new filter is already being nick-named 'the Bad Boys filter' by the team. If Michael Bay used FXhome software, this would undoubtedly be his favourite. It allows you to place a colour overlay onto your footage, either as a single colour or as a smooth gradient.

We're still applying the finishing touches to these new features (plus a few we haven't mentioned, such as a new VisionLab exclusive filter) and hope to have them ready in the next few weeks.

Be sure to check the FXhome.com news or keep an eye on your Welcome Screen updates so that you don't miss it!

This seems like it will be a great update. I always look forward to product advancements/updates, and this one looks like it is going to be particularly exciting. The new "Object Mask" feature is something that I have found myself wanting in the past, and is definitely a feature I will be using quite a bit. As I frequently say, and can't seem to say enough...

Great work team.

This is all very exciting but...

It makes me wish more than ever that I had clab pro!

That grading thing sounds awsome. I was just working on somthing a while ago where I had an explosion, and I raised the brightness for a few frames. But apply that to all of the differen elemets would have been a pain, so i just didn't bother and they looked way out of place smile

Ah me. I have to find a source of income. I need Final Cut Express, Vision Lab, Photoshop, new computer...

Well, the updates look wonderful. Am i right in assumeing that the features that will only be for Vlab and Pro will someday be availble for DV?

The Vlab and Pro-only features will almost certainly remain exclusive to those products. While some stuff filters down (the new masking system, for example), other features are designed specifically for the more advanced programs.

If everything filtered down to DV eventually, there'd be no point in having different programs at all. smile

The new updates that are coming look great. I can not wait for Object Masking and all the over cool features you have added. Any chance of the shit and drag feature being added so you can move a point vertically or horizontally in a uniform manner?
