I gotta say. I am supremely dissappointed. It looks horribly cheesy, and the effects look like they are from a TV-movie.

Arg!!!!! That sucks! Nowhere even remotely close to as good as the teaser for the first or second movies. Horrible.

Cool title sequence in the beginning, I think the cheesy looking 3d is still being worked on since the movie doesn't premiere until next year.

Frodo style Peter Parker jump.

Well, it felt very much like a bad version of the Ghostrider Teaser, and it had such epic music that didn't fit well, because there was no build-up to anything, and the text looked badly gradiented-photoshoppy.

Uh, I thought it looked great too. And for a movie that comes out in over a year, I thought the effects looked great.

I've watched it again, and I must say it looks quite promising although I think it's best to see this at the cinema. Don't know why, it just feels like "a cinema trailer".

what I like:
Topher Grace actually looked like Eddie Brock
Seeing Hadden Church in Sandman's green striped shirt made my inner child happy

What I didn't:
I felt like there were too many shots of him tearing off the black suit in the bell tower or whatever, and that climax wasn't very climactic

Umm, Ben, I hate to tell you this but, the effects always look like that in the Spiderman movies. And I think that the Ghostrider teaser, was a bad version of the Ghostrider teaser.

Please don't "shoot" me down, I'm just telling you my opinion.

And Redhawksrymmer, I had the same feeling with this and all the other Spiderman movies, they are better in the cinema.

I just watched it a couple more times, and I thought it was pretty good. I think it would have actually been a solid trailer, if there wasn't that build up at the end with him looking at himself, followed by the blackout with the huge "HACHUCK" sound. I think it would have been cooler if they had kept the pan around to show spider man looking at himself, but instead of having that loud "trailer crash" noise that basically tells you that whatever you just saw blew your mind, and just went strait to the credits, keeping the subtle sound of thunder around.

Just watched it again (for the 3rd time) and I noticed a Green Goblin "hover board" flying across the screen, so I took a picture of a frame where you can see the person on the board (Harry) "clearly":

The suit doesn't look that impressive, just looks like a guy with a leather jacket and a ski-mask.

Wasn't Harry the Hobgoblin in the comics? I've been so out of the comics for awhile now...

Nice trailer. The venom substance looked sufficiently gooey.

Does anyone know whether they're going the "alien suit" route from the comics or the "cancer cure suit" route from Ultimate Spiderman or just a completely different story for the suit?

I for one would like to have the black spidey suit be even darker than it is.

Hm, that did very little for me really. The only thing I really liked about the trailer was the very last shot. Other then that, it left me quite cold. sad

Nope. Harry was never the hobgoblin.

The teaser trailer was just that. A teaser. It's not a proper trailer so I wouldn't read too much into it or get your hopes up too high. It's a TEASER!

I hate Hate HATE sony picture imageworks with a passion. They can never do CG on the level that ILM or Weta do it. There's no human characteristic to the motion at all. That's probably what gives it that really good video game look.

I just noticed some rather disturbing bluescreen work.

I hope they just threw it together for the trailer and will fix it properly later.

You hate them for being unskilled? That's kind of harsh, I know a guys from Sony Imageworks and he is very nice. unsure I thought the final CG in Spidey 1 and 2 was on par enough with ILM to be nominated along side Harry Potter 3 and Weta's work on I, Robot, and they won... There is obviously some skill behind them, so each to his own. But even if you dislike their talent or whatever, you shouldn't make such a deranged sounding post. o_0

Evman, frame over a few, I am pretty sure they just had a really wide aperture, and lit him seperately with harsh backlight. I don't think they even used a bluescreen there (it's possible, they do it often). I mean, you picked out a weird looking frame.

A few frames after that one you can clearly tell its blue screen, because theres a slight blue tint to hair at the top of his head.

It's still, what, a whole year 'til the movie comes out, right?

They've got plenty of time to brush up all the visuals, I'm sure none of these are final.

That was a pretty poor trailer compaird to the Superman trailers i gota say...

Things I like, and why:
*Black Venom Goo had the right amount of gooeyness to make it look like goo and not plastic.

*Topher Grace cast as Eddie Brock was great, they have the same appearance and also Topher looks enough like Tobey to maintain a alsmost mirror like quality.

*No lame super strong mucley Venom.

*The opening of the trailer was good for obious reasons.

Things I didn't like, and why:
*Sandman looked like crap, It looked like the face in the mummy movie 5 years ago... Very crap, The 'sand' moved more like

*I noticed a bad peice of compositing in the railway scene, where Sand man turns around.
*EDIT* after reading the whole forum i see some one already posted this, yeah its obious.*

*Green Goblin looked more like an Action Extreem G.I. Joe on a Hoverboard.

*Editing in the trailer was predictable and boring.

HAHAHAHA Great Statement. And it is true, the effects in Spidey Movies have always been a bit camp. We also need to remember that its MARVEL, Marvel = Camp Fantasy comics. If you want super real gritt watch Batman or Superman, Yours ghost rider comment made me laugh out loud man. +1

Overall i agree i think that this is a very early trailer with very early post production attempts.

It will get better.

Not a bad teaser, some cool stuff in it. Venom goo was fun. However, while it's a decent teaser, I've come away with more negatives than positives:

- Goblin2 suit looks a bit lame and uninspired.

- The 'emo' look is utterly ridiculous. Peter Parker is meant to be in his 20s now - if he's having a bad time and is depressed, they could at least treat it sensibly and maturely. He's not some whiny 16 year old MySpace.com "woe is me" type. Representing that he's depressed by giving him a floppy dark fringe haircut is super lazy.

- Black suit is a bit dull - it's just the normal suit....but black.

- The whole thing looks a bit dark and depressing and overly serious. The main thing I like about Spidey 1 & 2 are there sense of fun. I think of Parker running over the rooftops going "wahooo!" - that's what sums them up for me. You come out of the cinema thinking "hell yeah! I want to be a superhero!" You don't come out thinking "darkness....must get an emo haircut....must wear all black and conform to goth stereotypes..."

I wouldn't worry about the effects though, these are likely just temps for the trailer.

As for the effecst quality of the studio...they're a mixed bunch. Being nominated/winning the Oscar for effects is totally worthless these days, though - as clearly illustrated by the fact that SW ep3 wasn't even nominated last year, while King Kong won despite having an awful lot of dubious stuff in it.

Heh, I just thought his haircut was from some kind of a flashback scene since almost all of those scenes feels a bit 80's (not that I would know how it was back then, it just felt like it). smile

Surely that could also be light from the train passing by? Also I think that shot looks good when in motion, it's only when you frame-by-frame that you see the hard edge of it.

Yeah, when I first heard about the black suit I was hoping it would have been more true to the Secret Wars storyline. But here, you still see the webbing on the suit, the spider symbol on the chest is black, the eyepieces don't stand out. Did they even try a test suit that was faithful to the comic?

Maybe it's just me, but the dark suit (in the trailer) doesn't reflect a full opposite side of Spiderman.

Kind of reminds me of how bad Superman 3 was when that tobacco Kryptonite had this lame evil version of himself.

i dont get it. does it ahve anything to do with symbiote(venom) just a thought.

looks kinda cool, although the way they always ruin peters life is a little depressing in which its like, whats the point? and after all theyve been through, mary jane is caught with harry, unless thats just a misunderstanding.

i think that one guy turns out to be venomd from other pictures ive seen. ill show you wich guy im talking about.

I have to agree, the whole depressed spider-man thing looks a little overdone, and the dark spidey suit lacks the edginess that it needs.

Well, I only just got around to watching this.

It looked sexy as funk, imho. Can't wait for this one to come out.

Tarn - about the 'emo' haircut thing, you've gotta remember that these movies are aimed quite significantly at children too. One of the reasons I liked the first two so much is that they can work just as well for an audience member aged 14 or 40 - which is a difficult thing to do. And with a film aimed at such a large range of ages, especially the younger ones, it'd be difficult to give an accurate and harrowing depiction of the character's depression wink

Anyhow, as I say, I think it looks amazing.

Cheers,
Arktic.

PS - About that black suit? I damn well want one!

I really liked it. It's a teaser, so i don't mind the effects.

As for Tarn and Boyocs, the whole dark thing DOES seem overdone, but it's exactly the same way in at least the Ultimate Spiderman Comics. Volume 3 is basically the venom storyline. It was utterly depressing. I guess it's being a bit true to at least the ultimate spider man series in that way. The black costume lacks edge. That's very true, but apart from that, I <3 the trailer.

EDIT: As for the costume, they should go the route of USM and make him solid black (no webbing) to maintain the gooey look, along with a bit of a shine and a GIANT mean looking spiderman symbol in white. I'll look for a pic...
EDITEDIT: This is the best i could find.

I shudder to think.........

Oh, and on IMDb under plot outline, it says "A specimen from the moon gives Spider-man new powers and a black suit", so I'm guessing John Jameson brings it back (accidental? I dunno) and since he knows Peter and MJ, when he meets with them (for whatever reason), it fuses with Peter. So, nope. No "Cancer Suit", which would've been IMO far more logical, and kept a reason for Eddie and Peter to be friends and then turn against eachother. Making the suit come from space is...well.........too out-of-this-world. (literally)

If you don't know what I mean by "cancer suit", it's the story arc in the comic series 'Ultimate Spiderman', from which the first and second movie are more closely derived from.

I can't believe you are all judging this movie so early based on a teaser trailer... Remember the Terminator 3 teaser? Were you all like "WTF THEY DONT EVEN SHOW TERMANATR! THIS MOVIE IS GOING TO SCK LOL@!"

Then again, I also can't believe they are advertising for it almost a year in advance. I hope people don't lose interest by the time it's released.

The whole "it came from space" thing is over used, simply because it can be applied to everything. Any occurrence can be explained by blaming Martians or maybe "space radiation". The "cancer suit" explanation from Ultimate Spider-Man would be slightly more logical and unique.

Whatever, I guess it really doesn't matter that much...

Well, the "cancer suit" is a good idea, but Raimi is a classic-lover. Sandman, GGoblin, Doc Ock, all original villains. He always said that Venom was a post-original Spiderman, 90s gimmick character. I'm sure he wanted to do it like it was first brought into the Spiderman world: as a thing from the moon.

i dont know if you guys saw this but, its kinda cool, but it is a fan trailer for spiderman 3, but it has SOME (not verymuch) real Spiderman footage, and you see venom! really cool!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wSqeFOL9tgY&mode=related&search=black%20spiderman%20suit
its totally fake but reallly cool.
