The second part of Lallen Productions - WAR OF THE WORLDS - animation.
The film is still in early production, due out next year, but heres the teaser of the FAN FILM " The red weed".

WAR OF THE WORLDS

Following the martians arrival on earth, the world fell in ruins. The martian "fighting machines" lay waste to everything.
Then came days of the weed, a living organism that crept across the land, choking everything with it's tentacle like feelers.
The earth truely belonged to the Martians, as it slipped into a fiery redness that was not of our world.

A War of the Worlds Fanfilm... Now that's a difficult task.

I must say, I found this trailer to be largely uninspired.

The 3D was on an alright level.
The shot of the earth was nicely framed, but the earth model/texture didn't really support the closeup and high resolution - the tree shot was nicely designed - the last tripod shot I'm not too fond of. The model looks untextured and the animation isn't too good either. For the final climactic shot of the Trailer, there should have been more work gone into that for my taste.

The sounddesign on the other hand was well handled. Much in the style of the original WoW, it was simple, yet effectice. The little soundeffects there are, do their job well. And the voiceover was also good.

The font however, is the major downside for me. It looks like your standard imovie-click-in-5-seconds font, without any sort of design applied to it. It's white font on a black background. It isn't moving, the font isn't animated, it has no texture, there is no background, the font size seems to change during the run, it has no similar font design (one time, there's one line, then there's 3 lines, then there's 2 lines)... It's just very lazy font design in my opinion. And it destroys much of the feeling for me.

I think with a bit more design work going to the fonts and some additional tweaks in the 3D, this could be much cooler then it right now.
As right now, it pretty much does nothing for me and looks like a rather quickly thrown together trailer.

Short, but nice! Excellent effects on the Martian machine. The opening sunrise shot was also pretty stunning. Can't wait to see the whole thing!

While I commend your use of Jeff Wayne's spectacular music, it seems that you did nearly no research at all for this. It sounds to me like you listened to the musical a couple times and maybe that's all.

The whirls of space? Come on.

No1 .... Yes the teaser was rushed out as I had a lot of people asking to see some tripod animations for the new film.
No2 .... I know about the whole "whirls of space" and I thought I'd uploaded the correted version "worlds of space". I do not appricate you're synical comments about such a simple mistake.
No3 .... I have researched, and could say that I have been researching for the last 24 years of my life.

The whole reason behind the film was to continue what I started 3 years ago, when In created my first WOTW animation

http://www.lallenproductions.co.uk/wotw.html

This was my first attempt at a CGI short. I had never done anything like this before and was quite pleased with it. Years on, I have had fans of the series asking me to do more.
My anmiation skills have improved a lot since the original, and I knew that I could do something much more spectacular than before, at a much higher quality.
It's going to take some time to finish, but the final product will be something very special indeed.

At least untill Jeff Wayne release his CGI film.

The worst part for me, was the sound effects at 00:37 which appear to have been recorded in a sea-shell. I have no idea what the stuttered sound at 00:42-44 is either. Sounds like i have the wrong codec or something, but that can't be the case since the voiceover and music previously was fine.

I fail to see how research played any part in this film, given its just a CG-fest with no content and the standard voiceover script.

The CG globe at the start was ok i suppose. Bit low quality though. The sunset wasn't that great, given that the glow started IN a mountain, not spilling over the tops of them. The tripod was quite good, but there was way too much camera shake.

All in all, this was distinctly half-arsed, but you've said it was rushed out, so i can accept that.

That was cool! Probably hard to do. At the very beginning though, just as the logo disappears, it comes back again for couple of milliseconds. You should get rid of that.

Sorry? How is that a simple mistake? Whirls and Worlds are two entirely different words.

Cynical.

Also, Xcession, I think even the slightest bit of research would have helped. If you're making a fan film based on a novel that is over a century old, and if you're just going to listen to some narration and copy it down for your titles, you can at least make sure you're typing the correct word. Sorry, I'm just nitpicking.

Edit: Your original animation is vastly better than this one, though still not that great.

Wow...

People tend to forget that our films at FXHome, especially with low budgets and inexperience (which is nearly EVERY movie in the archive) are supposed to be clearly for fun. Thats it. I have yet to see a movie on here thats going to be nominated for something at the upcoming Academy Awards ceremony.

Yeah, this movie isn't great...just like the rest of the movies on here...most of the films have actors who just suck or their performances are very bland like a common high school play. As a matter of fact, if it isn't funny or something completely original...I usually don't even get halfway through the film before I'm hitting the "back" button on my web browser.

So what if the movie isn't that great. Why? Because your movie probably sucks too...just to a different degree of suck, I suppose.

Some people take this all too seriously...

Just have fun posting your movies and shut the hell up.

*Stay tuned for the next installment of The Chronicles of The Naughty Jedi...featuring some things that are funny...and some things that will probably suck. Thank you.

I somewhat take offense to you saying that "some people take this all too seriously." in a demeaning way ther2kglitch. some people have low opinions on some of my movies here, but I would never say I made them "just for fun." Of course it is fun, but I don't just make something that's utter crap and then when people criticise it say "Hey hey hey hey woah hey now. We all suck alright. Just for fun. It's just my movie is a different kind of suck. Yes, my movie sucks, but don't show me that it sucks through the rating system."

Some people obviously take movies and filmmaking very seriously here. Read this or this, and tell me sollthar doesn't really care. Look at this or read this and tell me er-no doesn't care. Read this and tell me JohnCarter doesn't care. Read this and tell me Aculag doesn't care. I mean for God's sake, just watch THIS FREAKING MOVIE, and tell me people here don't really care! (I left some people out. I'm sorry, and you know I love you all.) After you do all that, I dare you to say "Yeah, this movie isn't great...just like the rest of the movies on here...most of the films have actors who just suck or their performances are very bland like a common high school play."

You're right, some of us do take this seriously.

By the way, don't think the 1 star I gave your movie is related to this rant. I rarely give trailers anything above a three, and this one didn't have much going for it. No live footage (if there isnt any, how about something other than the tripod as well), tacky titles, and just an overall feeling of uninterest led me to vote a one.

Aculag - just to clear up some confusion, i wrote
I fail to see how research played any part in this film
Note: use of past tense. I was refering to PaleRider's "24 years of research", not to your suggestion that he needed some razz

Whis does in no way mean they can't be good and HAVE to suck.

And if you post a movie you had your fun making and that sucks, then why get offended when people SAY it sucks? Clearly, that doesn't diminish the fact it was fun to make?

Some people take this all too seriously...
You mean like people who go on a little rant just because someone said he doesn't like a film? Tell them to shut the hell up?
Yeah, you're right. Some people do take this all too seriously...

For a teaser it served its purpose. Not too bad...Reminded me of some Flash Animation presentations I've seen. I do agree though that most people on here are deffinately siskel and ebert expecting high quality hollywood performances, cinematography, and effects. These films are meant to be fun, all you can hope for is that other people will try and have fun with them too.
