I just want to say that in August I'm going to shoot my DREAM movie. I have been concocting it in my mind and on paper for a year, found the prefect actors, and have written a script!

I'm so anxious crazy

The movie is called FANTABULOUS, INC. ,which is a secret government building under the alias that it is making office supplys, owned by MR. FANTABULOUS, played by mwah, with his bodyguard JOHN PARKINS.

Another company, SKYMARK INDUSTRIES, is trying to destroy FANTABULOUS, INC. and sends a spy and assassin into the building to steal a secret project FANTABULOUS, INC. is creating.

Mostly it's a action / comedy, but I think it will turn out great!!!

I'll keep you posted here for new updates!

Thanks All!

That's a nifty little cover! A little premature maybe, but nice all the same. Sounds like a fun little movie, hope it turns out well.

If you want to print "stickers" for DVD's, you have 2 options - You can buy printable labels that run through an inkjet printer (they come with a device for lining up and applying), or you could get an inkjet printer with a CD/DVD printing function. I've got the Epson R800, and the results look fantastic (you need printable media, but it doesn't cost much more than standard media).

Here's a basic labelling kit: Fellowes Neato CD/DVD Labelmaker

or, if you want to go down the direct printing route: Epson R200

I was only jesting with the premature remark, it just amused me that you'd designed the DVD cover before you'd even made the film. Certainly not a criticism!

Thats the great thing about it. When I thought up the idea for the DVD Cover I noticed that I didn't need an pictures of the characters on the cover.

It supposed to look like it was packaged and send to the main character "Mr. Fantabulous".

Since the movie is staged in a office building I added the characters names and their actor's names on sticky notes. To give it a "real" effect.

Now I'm probably going to redo the "Top Secret" stamp logo on Adobe and add alot of little things to the back!

Oh, and thanks razz Do I buy the kit thats $19.99 (theres soooo many choices tard )

Also: Did anyone hear the song "Tank" before? It's the theme to Cowboy Bebop. That will be the theme to my movie also! razz

ICH BIN Z√úRUCK!

You porbably know what I said: I am back!

At my film class we made a small movie in one day and they get submited to a small film festival! My film is named "The Note". It's a silent movie.

Anyway, I now know what I want for Christmas razz

It's the MacMini! It's a small 6" by 3" box that a computer in it's self!! It's about $500 on Ebay. I want a Mac so I can use iDVD--a very high-end DVD maker! It is soooooo sweet cool

interestingly and probably fortunately, that Mac Mini will probably go down in price by the time Christmas rolls around, and there might even be a better one for the same price as the one you want now. smile

Glad to hear you've been bitten by the Mac bug. You might want to take a look at the Apple Refurb store; They currently have the low end Mac Mini for $519, which could be a safer option than a second hand one from eBay.

Any chance of seeing "The Note"? Or are you prevented from posting it due to festival rules?

tick Keanu Reeves-

I made it at the film making's class computer though. I have the DVD though. I might be able to download it off the DVD. I'll check it out.

Also, I changed the name of the song! angel Thanks!

tick Destron-

Yes, I'm hoping that that does happen razz *Counts beers and vodka* And I have tried to set up a date for when we can film it in August, but I have to wait since my friends dad doesn't know when he can make a date for us to film in his office! (He owns it!). I'll probably set a solid date when August rolls around. I also started making a storyboard for the movie! biggrin

BTW (This is how the DVD Cover looks on a red DVD box!

Sounds like you've got your hands full. But I would suggest writing a script before you do much else; it's best to get it done so when shooting day 1 comes you'll have something to refer to.
By the way, I had a couple questions. First, what's the DVD cover made out of? Is it printed on one of those big envelopes or is it printed using your computer?

The DVD cover was printed out on regular paper. I used Publisher and Adobe Photoshop to create the DVD cover and size it prefectly to fit in the DVD case.

Awww. Don't say that! *pats on destron on the back*

But I have to comment, a script can make or break the movie, although sometimes "winging it" can get good results also because the character has to talk on his feet which would give a more real effect then them reading a script!

Also, do you have any movies I can see?

I might send you the latest one I'm working on, if I ever figure out how to get the file size down...
But the biggest problem right now is that I don't have a real camera. So I'm stuck using the video option on my friend's 30 fps digital camera and adding the sound in later. His brother has a real DV camera, but he won't let me borrow it, and when I have him over he is a complete butt about the way we do things and half of the video we took he never edited, and never gave me the raw video so I could do it. And it figures, the one he did edit turned out to be a total pile of crap. Basically, My friend's brother + video camera + Windows Movie Maker = total disaster. Sorry, I kinda got on my soapbox there...

Well, hmm... nevermind. It doesn't say anything about him having problems...
pielberg grew up making movies. He was making amateur 8 mm "adventure" movies with his friends as a teenager, and he made his first short film for theatrical release, Amblin', in 1968, at the age of twenty one.

Yeah, but it's probably just because I'm addicted to FXhome... it's ironic that I haven't bought any of their products... I think I should get on the ball and do so. neutral
*Warning: Completely Unrelated to Anything We Were Just Talking About*
I would suggest you not use Teenage Wasteland (Baba O'reilly) by The Who simply because I've heard it everywhere... TV shows, Movie Trailers, Commercials... just the other day I was at Pirates of the Carribean 2 and there was a trailer with that song in it. Anyway, just my 2c, it's your movie so you can do what you want.

I'm trying to save up for VisionLab AND a good quality camera. Which one should I get once I have the money? My friends say to get the camera first because when I get the program, I can't really use it at all. But when I get the camera, the hard part is over, and I can save up again, and get VisionLab. What would you suggest, destron or Garfield Street?

I guess I'm flattered that you're asking the mwah, simply because I haven't bought any FXhome stuff yet or a camera. But I believe your friends are right - I mean, you can actually start filming your movie when you have a camera, but you can't do squat when you just have the program. So I would suggest buying the camera, then the software.

Well, that's opening up a whole new can of worms. I'm not an expert (duh!) but I've heard that the Sony HandyCams are good. You should probably start a new thread and get some advice from people that actually have cameras (as opposed to me! upset ). But here's one you might want to take a look at: ony DCR-HC46 MiniDV 1MP Digital Handycam
It depends on how much money you can spend, and what you expect, really. Don't trust me, though. Ask around about which camera you should buy and what kind of features you'll want.

I know!! Teenage Wasteland WAS a great song and I too just saw the tralier for that football game movie in the movie Pirates of the Caribbean. So I changed my mind before and decided to remove it from the list.

Good News!

I might be able to go to New York City on a vacation. My movie also takes place there so I'm hoping to take some awesome shots to make the audience of my movie really think they are in New York City!

The trip will also be in August so it will be flush with the shooting of the other parts of the movie in an office building!

Can't Wait!

Yeah, I'm the same way with my script. So far, it's 43 pages un-properly edited. But I don't want to intimidate my actors with the size of the script, so I'm trying to keep it moderately low.

I got the footage back from NYC, it kickass and I am meshing the clips together to create the start and title of the movie!

I'm having trouble with the music since it has a lot of nonsense beats in the middle that I'm trying to cut out and make it seem that nothing was removied from the song! It's pissing me off! wall

With the New York Footage I made the start and credits.

Now what is the best way to show you guys?! Please tell me (if there is some html or if I should just send it to the FXhome Box Office).

Thanks!

While on the topic of being helpful smile :

First, the "DVD cover on a red box" picture is still broken, or there is something wrong with my computer. razz

Secondly, About the songs you are planning on using in your movie:
1. Be careful of copyright laws and such, you might hear from some unhappy lawyers. Just a warning to be careful, mostly if you're planning on selling copies of it.
2. No offense, but I notice that all of your songs are lyrical, which IMO is not a good idea for a movie - I, personally, do not like movies with a lot of lyrical songs (but hey, it's your movie, you can do what you want smile ). Maybe you're planning on removing the lyrics from some songs?

A little critique there: IMO the guns need to be a little bigger. Maybe there a little small because it's a cartoon, but that's just my 2c.

The background looks cool, but I'd use a different font, and also move the main title more towards the bottom so it isn't in front of the green guy's face.

Yeah, I was thinking of another color, but what would do well would you think?! Anything else wouldn't go with red, blue, and green and white goes with any thing!

I think I'll move it like you said!

Well the font looks gimmicky, go for something simpler, and I recommend using Black and gray, or possibly just outlined text instead of the red.

Do you think you could post just the textless poster so I can give you an idea of what I'd do?

Sure!

I think a grey would look nice!

Also if you'd like a bigger version of it I have a 1200x1000 sized picture of this! I just made it really small so its easy to download and view!

Here's a Quickie showing roughly what I had in mind:

Font is "SF Movie Poster" and Arial for the bottom text (the bottom text makes it look a lot more professional... You can also add a few black logos if you want).

Thanks for the comments and suggestions! And I seem to like it now that you can see the people , but the font and text fits on nicely!

I like how they are see through. Any reason for the particular use of the colors? Do they correspond to the movie in some way?

Only reason I ask is because the poster has a different look to it than the dvd cover.

EDIT:

The colors are just a creative idea I put into it! If they were the same it would be very boring. The colors red, blue, and green also stand well to together and bring your eyes to the characters on the poster!

Here's my take:

I like the title font and the "Nothing personal..." thing.
However, the transparency effects IMO aren't very good. I don't like them.
Are you aiming for a "Mixed Media" look? If no then you should probably change the New York (?) background to a more cartoony style.
And what image compression are you using? The image quality is kinda bad. (although not related to the poster itself).

I had to compress it really small! to 400x600 ish it is orginally 1200x1000 pixels and looks beautiful, its just to help everyone else out and too save downloading time to view I made it smaller.

Well I like how the buildings look and how they look so different to the drawn buildings. It also looks as if you cut out the pictures of new york and pasted them on like scrapbooking. (Since I practically did that digitally!).

Like I said, I like the colors but for your end poster you'll need to do something with the title to make it stand out more. Most publishers use a sort of ranking system when making a poster. Your title obviously is number 1.

If you take too much off the focus of your title, they may love the picture but won't remember what to go see!

I know the fonts are unusual compared to the fonts on the original DVD cover, but I was thinking of making a new DVD cover. Maybe this pic can be used for the Special Edition DVD and the other can for the plain movie!

Further Explanation: I am going to have two DVD's that are sold separately! The one is the Special Edition, with Interviews with the characters and a Behind the Scenes look at the making of the movie! The other DVD will be just the movie! Of course it will have scene selections and evrything else a normal DVD has except missing the extra stuff that comes with the Special Edition!

Heres the Future Special Edition Cover!

Also Tarn, if you read this, I decided that since all the characters are the main character and are shown equally in the movie, they should all be at the same height.

Perhaps add a 1 pixel 50% opacity white stroke around the actor's names to make them stand out more, because right now the "Collier" just kind of blends in a bit.

Are you kidding?? Napoleon Dynamite was one of the best movies that year. Hands Down. Now I know we can argue about this over and over and over but its the truth. Think about it. If you watch it only once yeah its not going to make sense..BUT after the 1st time it was absolutly hilarious!! It is for certian people with a certian sense of humor. anyways, John Heder is now famous for that movie and is rolling in the big bucks. Wish we all got breaks like that! lol. Cheers.

Use a different image on the back. Perhaps maybe a centered, encirled key image that is in the same style of the multicolored people on the front. Like an emblem of some sort, medium sized, and in the middle of the back.

Am I missing something here? Are you just making several different DVD cover's, or is there an actual movie. And, if so, do you have any stills from it or a synopsis? The case is cool and all, but it doesn't really matter if it doesnt have a movie to go with it.

If you plan on selling the dvd for any price at all, you can't just ask permission I'm afraid. I'm also certain just to use it and distribute it you cannot just ask permission. I am also interested how you got the rights of the likes of a U2 song.

I Looked up the song and found out the Label for each song and then called them. I then recieved e-mail addresses to send over the information of the movie (was it going to be entered in a film festival, etc.).

I told them everything and they all gave me the go ahead and to use the songs since it was going to be so low key and wouldn't be entered in a film festival. razz

Okey Dokey - I guess I could've just sent this message to you, Garfield, but it's more fun to do it here razz

Basically, I started work on the script - I basically am taking the whole thing, revising it and editing it, and formatting like a professional script. So I'll send it to you when I'm finished.

Wait, Garfield... how long are you planning on making this movie? I'm pretty sure you can't film the whole thing in two days... unless it's like 10 minutes long.
