Alright, I took ben3308's advice. I shouldn't post a new topic every time something new happens with my movie. So, I'm making a seperate thread for the Star Wars: Jedi Remnant trilogy. I'll have updates for you when something MAJOR comes up... anyway, mods, please delete my last topic about Jedi Remnant. Again, I'll keep you posted for updates....

The poster for the movie:

http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i83/kingofblades_lv/JediRemnantposter-1.jpg

Yeah, yeah, I know; it doesn't look like a real movie because of improper format... I might get a different version. Notice that this one has different text at the top, and "Dantooine" is respelled.

There's a few issues with this poster:

- Background image is far too dark. Juxtaposed against the very bright text, you almost don't even notice it. This is particularly odd given the presence of a lightsaber - not something you expect to be muted.

- Too many fonts. Pick one, two fonts maximum. One for the logo, one for everything else, perhaps. On this poster you have 4 fonts, plus the Star Wars logo. It's distracting and lacks direction. And why is the date outlined in pink?

- The text seems quite arbitrarily placed. This is particularly noticeable at the top with the tagline(s). The top two lines ("There may only" and "One who embodies") don't line up at the top, and the others seem randomly cut & pasted into their locations. "Be two;" does not work on a line by itself.

- This placement also means there's no natural flow. The natural way to read it is left-right, which results in "There may only one who embodies be two; power...and one who craves it..."

- No real design focus. What is this telling us? That there's a Star Wars fanfilm, that has a guy with a lightsaber in it. Not really the most original visual hook. Try to pick another visual theme to sell the movie that hasn't already been seen a thousand times. Otherwise this poster is just a load of text on a page.

Completely concur with Tarn. In addition...

"There may only be two" Oh right, so aren't you sure? You wrote the script - how come you don't know how many there are!

Use "can". I understand what you're trying to do here, but it just reads wrong - like you're saying "may or may not", rather than "it is only possible for...".

In fact however you write it, the phrase makes no sense.

"There can only be two; one who embodies power and one who craves it"

- So let me get this straight, one character is the embodiment of power and the other character just wants power? And thats your link? Those seem pretty open-ended character traits if you ask me. Surely many people crave power? Why are you only allowing there to be one then?

"There may only be two; Audi A4 and Chinchillas".

Just to clarify: this criticism is irrespective of the plot. Whether the plot answer my questions is irrelevant: the poster is aimed at people who don't know the plot and on its own it just doesn't make sense.

Also that semicolon after "two" is redundant. Grammatically its spot on, but no one cares for punctuation in posters - its just confusing. Similarly the colon after the first half of the title; at least use the same font for the subtitle, otherwise the link between the title and subtitle is lost and the colon becomes useless.

First off, the "There may only be two; one who embodies power and one who craves it" part means there's only two; a master and an apprentice. Any Star Wars fan would know that. Second off, I'm just a beginner filmmaker. You can't expect me to make the most grand movie poster of all time! And thirdly, I made this thread for people who are interested in this project to just comment TO THEMSELVES. If I wanted people critisizing my work, I'd kindly ask for it. But I'll work on yet another poster, and, pretty much, cater to the masses.

By the way, I don't know how you people read, but we in the U.S. seem to read left-to-right and then down, then to the next body of text. It's called common sense. And you who are critisizing me don't seem to use common sense. Learn how to read correctly.

I think Xcession understands the meaning behind the words. His point was that the phrasing itself doesn't quite convey the meaning satisfactorily, and could be worded to better effect. With posters and minimal space, you want every word to count for maximum impact.

Any Star Wars fan would know that.
We'd been watching Star Wars for over 10 years before you were born, so we understand the lore. smile

Second off, I'm just a beginner filmmaker. You can't expect me to make the most grand movie poster of all time!
Of course not. That's why we were trying to offer some tips and advice. Most of the comments I made are things that could be rectified with very little work - you've got the basics down, with some tweaking the poster could become very effective.

And thirdly, I made this thread for people who are interested in this project to just comment TO THEMSELVES.
The fact I took quite a while to examine your poster and comment on how I feel it could be improved show that I was interested, otherwise I wouldn't have bothered.

If all you are interested in reading is glowing praise, though, then you'll never improve.

If I wanted people critisizing my work, I'd kindly ask for it.
By putting your work on a public forum, you inevitably invite criticism. However, you shouldn't see criticism as a solely negative thing - see it as something you can use to improve your skills.

Xcession in particular works at a major web design firm and is highly paid for it, for good reason. Most companies have to pay him several thousand pounds for his insight, so to disregard his comments would be to miss a rather valuable opportunity to discuss matters with a design professional.

But I'll work on yet another poster, and, pretty much, cater to the masses.
I'm not entirely sure what you're trying to imply with that comment - that creating a professional, impressive poster is somehow a bad thing? I'm not sure what your point is.

By the way, I don't know how you people read, but we in the U.S. seem to read left-to-right and then down, then to the next body of text. It's called common sense. And you who are critisizing me don't seem to use common sense. Learn how to read correctly.
Resorting to silly insults isn't the most productive response when people are trying to help and give advice.

As you're not interested in constructive criticism, I'll leave the rest of the discussion to your fans.

Okay, I get it. If you did not see the argument between me and Sollthar, I am a very sensitive guy. But this explanation that you have given me makes me feel better... lol... anyway, I still need to get all of the actor's parts down. Then I'll make a complete poster. smile

I think i'd probably like the teaser more if something happened in it and the text didn't float around seemingly at random, originating from arbitrary places on the screen.

(FLV = Flash Video. Been around for a couple of years now and is what Google Video, YouTube, MetaCafe all use for their content. Welcome to old news)

I agree with Xcession - and also, it's not really a "trailer" - there's no footage at all. I guess I just don't see why you can't just post it as an image...

I know... I've really nothing else to give you at the moment. I think I MIGHT start shooting in August, but I still need a proper camera. I figured I'd do SOMETHING in this thread. I know that this thing isn't that great. Remember, I just put this together in like 5 minutes.

Perhaps by about two or three weeks from now, I'll have a final poster up! (maybe)

If you want something to post here, you could do some storyboards or something... I think people will lose interest if they don't see something soon.

Also, unless you are trying to keep this under-wraps and secret until the release date, you could put out the script, or at least parts of it.

Well, the last battle of "Jedi Remnant: Siege of Dantooine" is going to be phenomenal. I'm going to be having thousands of legions of Sith besieging (is that a word?) the Jedi enclave. It's going to take a LONG time to get that part done. So I'm thinking that final release date is going to be extended to Summer 2007...

How on earth would you do that? Assuming you don't have thousands of actors, there is like no way to do that. Unless you did some massive digital cloning operations...
And yes, "besieging" is a word.

Well, I guess I'm gonna need some major-freakin' skill with CompositeLab or VisionLab Studio for cloning processes. But I'm also needing some actual actors for the actual part where they Force-Jump onto the ramparts. This is sort of going to be Lord of the Rings-like... smile

I think he means that LEGOLAS can JUMP ONTO walls. And the reason why it would be Lord of the Rings-like is because of the big explosion of Helm's Deep comes into play and is turned into the "big explosion on the Jedi Enclave"... biggrin

I hope so too. This scene, unfortuantely, seems very unreal. This scene is going to be EXTREMELY hard to do... when the time comes, and if you have an Fxhome program, help would be greatly accepted.

Actually, that may work out - after I get my new computer next month I'm gonna save up for Effectslab... but it sounds like most of the work you need would be done in CompositeLab. But drop me a line later on and I might be able to do some lightsabers or something for you.

You've completely misunderstood the point of threads.

This is an open forum, and anyone can say anything they like. I suggested one thread instead of many threads, but that still doesn't mean you should've made any thread at all.

If all you planned on doing was updating your movie details to people without wanting anybody to comment, then a useful place to convey that would be a website (like this one). On a website you can put up all the updates, movies, pictures, flash files, and other crap you want without worrying about someone else junking it up. That's what they're for. I'm afraid threads can't serve the same purpose.

Even if you don't have any HTML skills or hosting, there are plenty of places out there like Geocities, Homestead, Freewebs, and more. My SC thread was for me to make one update and have people comment on it, not for me to incessantly tell people off for spamming my thread. By not letting anyone say anything, you're deterring them from the thread and ultimately from your movie. As the king of movie hyping, I would know.

My advice: get a website. I'll even make you one if you want.

Well, I just didn't want people making their own conversations in this thread... yes, I wanted people to give me helpful advice, but... (sighs) dammit. I guess I really DO need a website. Ben3308, I'll notify you if I need help with a website. But destron, you are still welcome to post here (not like I really have any authortiy). I guess I have a lot to learn about movie stuff and things of that nature. Again, destron, and anyone is still welcome to give me any helpful advice and/or post anything here. I agree with Kingofbladeslv

You wouldn't want conversations popping up in your thread that was about movie updates. Kingofbladeslv doesn't want people straying away from his thread because they think that the thread has turned into some random conversation intead of having movie updates.

And I was quoted because my thread had turned into a thread about camcorders, and I wanted my thread to be completely about critisim and comments to my movie and etc.

Usually you can either be subtlely sarcastic or denote it with a smiley. People who REALLY want to get their points across might even add in a [/sarcasm] as the end of their post. Saying that you meant to make a joke a sentence after you say the joke is lame.

Oh, and Xcession is awesome. biggrin

(^^^^see the smiley?^^^^)
