What would really be great for this site is a downloads section with some high quality sound effects for the standard plugins and effects, such as lightsabre sweep hums, clashes, phaser firings, gunshots, machine guns etc, in 16 bit 44k stereo wav files, for users to put into their videos. Also, a section for users to submit or upload their own sound effects they've made for plugins they made themselves. How about it?

Sounds like a cunning plan. We have a small "Sounds" section in the downloads area. We'll look into increasing this.

I have some excellent outdoor and indoor gunshot sounds, mostly sampled from movies. Anyone interested?

Yes, especially movie samples. I have a collection of Star Wars light sabre samples. I'd love to be able to get this sort of stuff and submit it to this site (I realise server space is important, but more free goodie things on a site means more traffic you get, and perhaps more $ales!)

If people have some sounds they would like to add to this site then we will try and put them up. The best way would be to upload them to the ftp server (servername: http://www.csb-digital.com port: 21 user: anonymous pass:<your email>) then send me an email saying what you uploaded and ill add it to the sounds section.

If we get enough uploads ill rewrite the sound section so its a little easier to find what you want.

space isnt too much of a problem, but bandwidth can be, so try not to make them too high quality.

My company has just put together a CD we call the "Gun Rack" we have many weapon sounds we recorded in digital 44.1 stereo. Racking, bolts, clips, slides, and firings. We will be posting the sounds very soon on our website. (Next week I think) If any of you are looking for something specific let me know and I'll send it to you. Also, if you would like a copy of the "Gun Rack" CD we will ship it to you for free. Just promise us you'll tell us what you think.

Thanks

A fantastic resource for gun sounds is (if you've purchased it) Tom Clancey's Rogue Spear (or Rainbow 6, I'm sure). Somewhere buried on the CD are all the sounds used for the game in high-quality .wav format. There are also some random electronic noises, radio sounds, traffic, birds, rain, explosions, and some other miscellaneous weapon-related sound. There must be hundreds of sounds available on that CD.

Almost worth buying the game for the sound alone!

I know there may be a lot of audio buffs out there that may be against it... but y not mp3 the sounds.

this would save bandwidth for csb.
help modem users.
and the sound aint that exactly terrible.

Ummm, there isnt a sound effects area on this site. We got rid of it a long time ago. It was a bit misleading because AlamDV doesnt let you add sounds.

I would consider setting up a seperate site for sound fx (which we could cross promote with alamdv), but I cant afford to host it (i suspect it would be quite a bandwidth drain).

The other problem is that a lot of the sounds you sent us are direct rips from films which may cause problems for us if we wanted to distribute them.

I think as it stands, we cant justify a sound section here at AlamDV. But if someone made a decent sounds website we would definatly promote it from here

There is a file of lightsaber sound effects available for download from the fanfilm section at http://www.theforce.net under post-production.

That sucks about the sound effects, but everyone else keeps talking about their web sites and FTP servers hosting them... okay then, what are the addresses, please and thank you. smile
