Why don't you make ONE post with all your preset requests. Or, better yet, why don't you make them yourself?

EDIT: Aw.

I think it is better to keep them separate, TimmyD. That way if someone is working on any given one, they can post the updates in the right thread, and it is much easier for everyone to find if the thread can be names after a single request.

Is this the effect?

For the tips of the wands you could use the optics engine, and again for the glow in the middle.

I expect something similar could for the 'sparks' could be achieved with the particle system, although you might be able to find some stock footage of which may look better.

For the streaks of 'lighting' coming from the wand you could try animating using the neon engine. Maybe try importing the harry potter footage in and tracing the beams - however this would take a bit of time and patience.

Good luck

Hmmm, this was probably done using particles in 3d space in the real movie, but I'll see if I can make something of it (at least the connection in the middle of the screen, since the beams of light could be done using the neon light engine.

Ryan W. Uses Trapcode to do the effect your looking for.

http://ryanw.michaelfrisk.com/ryan-w/personal_projects.html

I think if you mix the force field preset and lightining effect you could come up with something similar.

i do make my own effects, but maybe i like to give ideas, or maybe like to see how well others can do it. and maybe as axeman said, it's better to keep these posts separate.

I tried to do it using neon light and it's alright but it takes some time so unless you're willing to take time you may have to do it another way! Like perhaps with another program! I think fxhome should consider make a new feature in the neon light engine! so you can make laser whips and the thing from harry potter. Instead of using freehand where you have to create both side just click once then clcik somewhere else and there is a strand of laser and you can choose how think you want it or something! That's just my opinion! That way you can make laser whips, laser bolts coming from wands, and even each seperate strand for force lightning so you can combined them and create proper force lightning! razz

Thanks for you input.

I believe this kind of thing is in our list of research for the future, but currently we are working on more mission critical things.

For the lightning I think the best way probably is to warp stock footage. If you apply a 'perspective warp' it can make the lightning less flat and you can position it in a more 3D fashion. Possibly adding a 'Grade Object' (Pro/Vlab only) to the stock footage may help the overall appearance.

I suggest using this for sparks
http://fxhome.com/alamdv2/plugins/info_cache/plugin47.html
Or possibly the particle engine with some custom textures would look better

This is one of the lightning plugin that can be converted to stock footage

Not very friendly Timmy. I think you forget that this forum is FOR ASKING FOR PRESETS. Hense the title Preset requests. Relax, if you don't want to help don't. There's no need to bash other users. This is some of the best software for the money, with some of the best people helping and using it. Don't be one of those little kids that ruins it for everyone else.

That's not really what was asked for. In HP4 it is a stream of particles, sparks, and dens magical looking stuff. That honestly just looks like force lightning stock footage. Ryan's looked fairly amazing because of the ground interaction, this is near impossible without 3d unless the camera was stationary. In which case it would still be difficult.

My next "preset project" is to create this effect, so you'll probably see something like it in the archive in maybe a week (gotta compress it down in some ways first though...it's currently 9 layers). smile

That's not really the attitude, Timmy. As others have pointed out to you, this is the preset requests forum. People are asking here precisely because they don't have the time/skill/etc to do the effect themselves. Telling people to just "make them yourself" isn't terribly useful, friendly or what we expect from FXhomers.

I'll be checking out Redhawk's mega preset soon, so if it all checks out it should be in the preset library early this week.

You have a good point, tkelly16, but so does Timmy. This forum IS designed and intended to be a resource for requesting presets, but many users seem to immediately post a request when they want some effect, rather than having a go at creating it themself. This is the easier route to take, but if you take the time to learn the programs and create effects for yourself, you benefit by becoming more familiar with the applications, you are more likely to be able to get the exact effect you are after, and you get far, far more satisfaction from your end product.

The best effects to watch, from the audience's viewpoint, are ones you have never seen before. You can never achieve that by using someone else's preset. So while no one should be discourged from posting preset requests here, I think everyone should be encouraged to work harder at creating effects themselves.

Well axeman suitably justified my post, but I'll admit it came off as a little more harsher than intended.

This is an image of the harry potter wand clash effect I submitted a few weeks ago. The only "problem" is that it's in 12 layers/parts so we'll probably have to wait until malone creates some kind of multi-part preset submission system.

Harry Potter 12-part preset image

EDIT: 1800 posts, yeah!

No Need for that any more. I have found out a better way to make that effect with elab other than neon lights, or the particle engine!

The muzzle flash engine!!!
I just created the best kamehameha preset! (which would also look good as the ice the iceman uses at the end of Xmen 3).
I had no idea that the muzzle flash engine was that sufficient, nor that u could animate it to look like particles!
PLUS it's only one layer!(without optics, and only one beam)
Thank you FXhome!!! eek biggrin biggrin clap hugegrin
