AlamDV2.0.9 has just been released for Mac and PC. I know it is only a few days since the last build but I just wanted to fix a few more things. The Mac version now includes the PluginLoader - please note that it runs best under OSX but the main AlamDV application is still OS9/Classic at the moment.

Here are the updates :-
Interface
1. As Xcession suggested, it would be nice to have the last 5 projects appear in the file menu for quick opening.

Installer
1. Need to include AlamDV version history.
2. Script error on first run fixed.

Timeline
1. After opening a new project, you can create an error by trying to modify an effect when you don't have one selected.

Plugins
1. Fix plugins with broken alpha channels which means they are always invisible in AlamDV2.0.7 onwards. These plugins include both the ghost plugins and the electrical arc.
2. On of the ground explosion plugins needs to be darker to get rid of nasty boxes round the edge.
3. Several other plugins were just broken and have now been fixed.
4. Needs to clear all the effects menus when installing new plugins.

Render Engine
1. Minor Bug when using the new effect blur option. It can leave a black box behind.
2. ESC should stop rendering.
3. Should warn you to keep AlamDV2 in foreground when rendering.

That is everything - we are nearly there now. The Mac version has gone straight from 2.0.7 to 2.0.9 but it does include all the updates from 2.0.8.

Good luck with the new version and make sure you uninstall (or delete on the Mac) your current AlamDV2 folder before installing, but keep all your plugins (unless they are not working right, then download the fixed versions).

I just want to say a big thank you to all the people now making AlamDV2 plugins. Only a few weeks back we were amazed that we had got up to 100 plugins, but now we are all the way up to 170! Thanks again from the csb-digital team and all the AlamDV users around the world.

about the pressing esc in while rendering...

for some reason i have to hold it down for 3 seconds before it stops the render (mac version)

yea, some neat plug-ins are out there. KermZ and Axeman are really making some nice ones... and FAST! JVJR2 has also posted some very note-worthy ones lately.

I was also experiencing the "script error" problem when i would try to
launch Alam.

I uninstalled 2.0.8 - rebooted computer
Installed 2.0.9 - rebooted computer

Launched Alam and everything seems to be working OK now.

Mekon - maybe try uninstalling everything, rebooting, re-install, reboot n run like i did.

Thanks for the fast-patch Schwar & Malone

Same deal. Got the bonzo script error right away. I'm also having a few of the old plugin problems (Director Errors) only not as frequently.

I'm a little confused about the plugin installer......? Isn't the whole thing running under "Classic" (technically) or have you written it so the installer is running under "X" (Carbonized) and the Application functions under classic?

Neo, try this under MacOSX.

Delete the AlamDV2 folder. Run the new installer. Before you open AlamDV2 open the PluginLoader (stay in MacOSX) - this should install the standard plugins (don't add yours yet). Then try running AlamDV2 (tell me if it works).

Quit AlamDV2, add all your plugins (remember some were broken and we've updated them on the site now) and run the PluginLoader. It should install all you plugins. Now run AlamDV2 in classic or under os9.

Basically, always try to run then PluginLoader under OSX.

Installer is Carbon - native OSX and OS9 but better under OSX.
PluginLoader is Carbon - native OSX and OS9 but MUCH better under OSX.
AlamDV2 is Classic - emulated under OSX and native on OS9.

Ok.....I'm an idiot. Ignore that last post. I'm not even going to bother telling you what I did wrong. redface

I've got 163 plugins installed Schwar. I've done 2 exports on this G3 so far as well without any director errors (I'm on a different computer now- part of the problem).

After I'm done deleting it off this machine I'll try it on the other 3 I've got here at work, but it looks like everything is aces. biggrin

Nice work guys. Best of luck with your CD sales! lol

Schwar,

Here are my final tests that I just finished for you on the machines at work:

Plugin Loader:

I just "cooked" a CD with a fresh load of plugins so I can drop them all on as needed.

The first 2 have better than 100 plugins each. Those beasts are G3 iMacs (old ones- 400 mhz, 128 mb RAM). They are a little too slow to sit and bugger installing the rest but I think they would be ok anyway. The third is my new Superdrive G4 iMac. I've got all the plugins in on that one, no problem at all (you weren't kidding about how fast the installer is wink )

Exporting:

I exported the same 5 second clip off each machine with 3 effect layers into Quicktime. The first iMac I've had trouble with before, I got a Script Error midway through the export (but I'm not surprised, I've changed RAM on this machine twice). The other G3 iMac was fine. Needless to say the G4 was perfect.

I did this by installing the plugins via OS X before running the application as you suggested. I've gotta go do some "work" before I get fired, but I'll let you know if anything goes kaboom. Nice work Schwar! Peace.

Schwar,

In your post you mentioned that you fixed some plugins. Did you fix the actual plugins or just the loader? If you fixed the actual plugins, would you mind posting a list so I can download them again?

Thanks!

We fixed some plugins as well.

Baterang, Ghost plugins, Electrical Arc and Ground Explosion all had problems of some sort.

I uninstalled ALAMDV2 as instructed. After downloading the Windows version of 2.0.9 I got the following mesage"Quicktime is missing software required to perform this operation. Unfortunately, it is not available on the quicktime server." Now I don't have any version. What's up?

That sounds mental! Ask Schwar, he'll know what to do! wink

In the meantime, try "uninstalling" Quicktime and ALAMDV2 in that order. Download Quicktime again, run the Quicktime updater inside Quicktime 5 then reinstall ALAMDV2. You can also try a Reboot in between the installs just to make sure Windows doesn't cache some of the files on you.

This is why I let my MCSE retire and I use Macs. I hate Windows. twisted Good luck man.

Thats some kind of QuickTime error - nothing to do with AlamDV2.

The instructions that Neo gave are perfect.

I'm so glad you are happy with how things are progressing Neo (and all the Mac users). I'm still trying hard to get you (and myself) a MacOSX version asap smile

It would help if you told us what system you were on and what the error was...

Schwar,

It's godlike. eek I put it through the ringer too on the first day. 5 different iMacs at work and a G4 + my G4 at home. After I unistalled it from the machines at work I put it on my Powerbook G4. It's just totally mint man! I havent' had a single problem except for that one piece of shite G3 (no comment..........cost me some serious time a while ago.....).

An OS X version would be beyond cool. ALAMDV 2 is the only app. I'm still using in 9.2.2- but it's worth it.

I'm too happy for words. Like I said to you way back in March during that whole 2.0.6/2.0.7 testing mess: "after using Version 1 for more than a year, I knew you'd get Version 2 up and it would be more than worth the wait." I spoke the truth then and now.

I'm sure everyone is just as happy as me. lol Cheers to you for your hard work! razz It paid off 10 fold.

Mekon,

Do you have this file on your drive:

quicktime34.dll ?

Some ancient versions cause a brutal error in avi files. That might be killing ALAMDV, but your problems are Quicktime oriented for sure. Might not be a bad idea to reinstall Windows if you find that file or regardless.
