For those of you whose wallets are empty and loathe blender, download Bryce NOW. It is only available for free until September 6th or so. I've seen great things come from Bryce. Awesome oppurtunity. Seize the moment even if you don't plan to use it now.

http://www.daz3d.com/program/bryce/bryce5free.php?trid=446713850

Also note: Mac version does not work in Tiger! I suggest using it on Windows or older OS computer if you can. I don't know if it would work in classic mode. Post here if you find that out.

We lowered my resolution and I finally got it to register. Now when I open the program it works in Tiger.

Just as a sidenote, I'm only free for a week. Then I'm $29.99 an hour plus tax.

Yeah, now I get to upgrade Bryce4 to Bryce5, not that Bryce is awesome CGI software, it has the falt of always looking way to much like Bryce, some times I sneek it into my movies real stealthy like though.

First of all, a huge plus one. This looks like very cool software for when I (eventually) have to drag myself kicking and screaming into the realm of 3D animation for my films. I went through the process as you suggested, downloaded the program, registered, got the free plugin features, etc. and got things running. It's exciting.

One weird note, though. Maybe I need to reinstall or something, but when Bryce5 is running, it appears to disable the windows menu bar at the bottom of the screen and in fact will not let you minimize it, exit, or switch to any other window you currently have open. The only way I found to bring another window to the front or to close Bryce was via the task manager. That was rather alarming.

But still, this looks like it could be a lot of fun. Thanks for pointing it out to us.

I guess it's free because Bryce 5.5 is out and they hope people will upgrade. Also there are lots of predesigned models you can buy if you don't want to spend the time designing your own and that will bring in more income if there is a bigger user base established.

The Daz3D Studio software has been a free giveaway for a while now and they make it pay by selling ready made 3D models and animations to people who want some CGI but don't have the time to design from scratch.

I've been using Terraform and TerrAnim but have been keen to try Bryce for a while due to the wealth of ready made models available. Thanks for the heads up on this one.

IT DOES TO WORK ON TIGER.

If I'm correct, you downloaded it from cnet downloads, and it downloaded as a .txt file. All you have to do is remove the .txt from the file extension and open the resulting file in Stuffit.

Yes. If you export a background video, image, or foreground video/image it can be composited in. If you work with Icarus you can track camera movements in Bryce and composite anything together in CLab. You could even just have a tripod shot and use a 3d rendered element in the scene without the need for a tracking step. You could even creat stock footage using and generators Bryce has (not very familiar with it.) The possibilities are endless.

Same here, although I can change windows by using "Alt + Tab".

Timmy, did you get this working in Tiger? By the time I register it on the site, the program crashes.

We lowered my resolution and I finally got it to register. Now when I open the program it works in Tiger. No problems, don't know why their site says otherwise. I'll be using this program for basic stuff (they have great resources on their site). Get this now, the oppurtunity is almost over.

You mean my display or my Bryce project? I'm at 1280x854 on my display, and it i've tried various things in Bryce. I'll set my display to 1024 x 768 and see what happens.

EDIT:
I changed my display and it didn't help anything. Should I delete bryce and then redownload it?
