Those who do not state they are "IN" will not be eligible for the grand prize. There are no judges. It's a poll. As the contests get more and more popular, we'll probably need to institute judges, as some people could be making accounts just to vote, etc.

We should only allow users who've been two weeks or more to vote, and have people say "I've voted" once they vote. Then, if the votes don't match the "I've voted's", you restart the poll, or take some kind of action.

I know er-no's fantastic story.

Ben: I think that's a little overkill, but if we have some irregularities, we'll investigate. We will need to get judges, at some point though.

I would like to make films for both contests, but with school, classes, cross country, National Honors Society, Peer Helpers, Student Gov., ski club, and my social life, i have no time. unsure

I am also currently editing a documentary for my high school and our trip to a local food shelter...

I have a concept for a script i'm working on for my Graduation Project which should be finished around this time.

The only problem is i'm not sure if it's the type of horror for this contest. My film seems a bit more on the suspense side...

What exactly do you mean by Horror? Blood/Guts/Gore stuff or does Suspense (my suspense story has a creepy oozy globby dark character in it) count?

It's a horror/thriller. Horror is essentially scary and disgusting, while thriller is suspense, etc. So you be the judge.

As for submissions, a submission topic is posted towards the end of the contest, where you link to your film and give us the details. The movies are not allowed to be submitted to the cinema until the contest is over. Does that clear things up?

No, I'm not. I ain't giving no 30 force for something I'm affiliated with. Perhaps, once I've decided we've got a good project, I'll say "in" with a joint-movie with Ben. For now, though, don't hold me to being "in". I've got other, larger projects to deal with/wrap-up. wink

Oh, by the way.If people are preparing films to enter into this contest and you don't have a reliable place to host them, PM me. I can probably host a few of the entrants if they're not too ungodly huge. At the rate my schedule is going, I probably won't even finish an entry in time anyway, so I may as well contribute something.

Cheers.

I'm in. Not sure if I'll make anything, but just in case it will be good. As for Kung Pow quotes, (One of the best movies ever made) here are some of my favorites.

"I have been called bad before. Many have said I do things that are not correct to do. I don't believe in talk such as this. I am nice man, with happy feelings. All of the time. First, a joke. What do you get when you cross an owl with a bungee chord? My ass. Nyah, haha, haha, haha, ENOUGH. "

Master Tang: I remember a long time ago, when a friend told me there would be a chosen one.
[flashback to a younger Tang talking to Master Doe]
Master Doe: There will be a chosen one.
Master Tang: He then told me of the significance.
[flashback]
Master Doe: It will be significant.
Master Tang: And then he killed the dog.
[flashback, Master Doe closes his eyes, we hear a fart then a dog whimper]
Chosen One: I now officially know too much, and why are you in bed?
Master Tang: Oh, you wouldn't believe what happened next...
Chosen One: [flashback begins] No wait, please!
Master Tang: If you insist.

"But, isn't Betty a woman's name?"

THAT'S ALOTTA NUTS!!!!!

I'm going to start filming this weekend, hopefully it won't be too good/bad weather, so I easily can make it into night even if I'm filming at day. smile

We shot the first footage last night, in fact, because one of the actresses was in town now, but his heading to Flordia for a while and not sure when she will return, so we had to get the bits with her done early. Now I'll be fighting withy my green screen for a while before any more progress can be made.

I just wondered if the submission thread will be up at least some weeks before the deadline?..I'm travelling to New York when the release date is, so I can't submit it the same or two-three days before.

We actually have yet to decide on a definite time for the posting of the thread. We can arrange something, however. If need be, you could give me all the information beforehand, and when the thread comes up, I could put it up there for you.

Atomic Productions will be mailing a free Cover's Story DVD out to the winner of the Hauntfest.

Well, if shipping's like 30 bucks to where you live, we can't do that. But if you're relatively easy to mail to, expect the DVD. We'll be throwing some extra content in there too, like Found, the comedy sketches that nobody likes, and some other unreleased stuff. Scenes from a certain movie will also be in there, but hidden.

From now on, all prizes have to be determined BEFORE the launch of the contest. Which means, no more prizes are to be announced. If you want your prize to be announced on the first page, you must agree to send whatever it is to whereever the winner may be — regardless of price.

Well, for anyone watching the Action contest threads, there's been a dispute over extension of deadlines. Just to let you all know in advance, there will be absolutely zero extensions in the Hauntfest. So that means, if you haven't started working yet, I'd get started.

Also, the Action contest poll is now up. Watch the movies and vote for who you think is best!

Right on.

Although...
II. All movies submitted must be no less than two minutes in length
(00:02:00;00), and no more than twenty minutes in length
(00:20:00;00)(Including titles and credits).
So I can have 18 minutes of titles and credits? I think there's been a mistake on that one. wink

I have *SO* bitten off nearly more than I can chew. We've had five filming sessions so far and still have to shoot in two more locations. Some early grading and editing is getting done, but the green screen work (which will be a major time sink for the film) isn't even started yet. About a month to go and I'm already wondering if I'll finish.

Keep working! biggrin Whatever it is sounds good from the tone of some of your other threads...

And people, please register for the Hauntfest forums! When submission time rolls around, the forums will be the place to be to discuss and review the submissions. Plus, it enables us to mass e-mail you guys for important updates about the contest.

Ben, you've already done some *big* films. I haven't done anything that couldn't be shot in a couple of hours and looked like crap.

This came out of nowhere and turned into our first big effort. It may still be crap in the end, but it's a hell of a learning experience.

Just out of curiousity, is it now a requirement to be registered on the Hauntfest forums, etc. to participate in the contest? Don't get me wrong, it's a great looking website and all, but a lot of days I have enough trouble making time to come to the FXhome forums. I don't really feel like I can commit to another online community at this time.

I'm sorry, you can't be taken off the "IN" list. It's just 30 force, it's no big deal.

What part of the leg did you break? I broke my femur and growth plate in 7th grade, and was out for 5 months on crutches. Good luck with your recovery.

I'll gladly contribute 30 force to cover Evman's force. And make it another note, too, (if this is okay with TimmyD or miker, if not I can edit this post very quickly) I'd like to give some extra 100 force to the winner. Unlike the DVD, this is completely do-able no matter who wins.

Rules should be bent on certain occasions, though. Breaking one's leg is certainly something unforeseen.

Giving extra force is completely alright, we actually encourage it.

The rules can't be bent when they don't need to be bent... giving up 30 force is not, i'm assuming, a problem for Evman just because he broke his leg. Miker and I expect to get about 8 submissions from the 25 people who are "IN". Some of those 25 people will not be able to make their films because of unforeseen extenuating circumstances, yet they'll still be held responsible for that 30 force they pledged to give. Evman screwing up his leg is an unforeseen extenuating circumstance. Don't get me wrong, what happened to him is awful, but when he stated he was in, he chose to give away 30 force to the winner of the contest, regardless.

I know I'm probably coming off as sounding mean, but I'm not being mean. I feel bad for what happened, but, I'll say it again, "Rules are Rules."

Use your leg in the film or just direct sitting down, make others run the camera and such.

If I don't get an entry in at this point, I'm getting a non-fake, non-prop gun and sticking it in my mouth. We spent five hours shooting maybe 16 minutes of film today and tonight, of which I'll probably use four minutes.

*sigh*

No, don't do that, i'll do it, 30 force is just 30 force, but still, it seems Timmy is taking this very very seriously and operating it very strictly.

I can't continue in hauntfest. I suffered the untimely loss of my grandfather this afternoon so I can't continue on with my movie right now. I will still give the winner the 30 force I agreed to but I won't have a movie to submit.

Custom sigs for everyone!

If your name's not on here, it should be soon enough, my 'Enter' key is broken. I've done a 60% compress on these in Photoshop, so they shouldn't be tood bad, even for 56k. They load pretty fast on my end. Oh, and if you have anything else in your signature space, you'll either need to lose it or resize your sig here.

Great sigs Ben!

Boy, making a script for a horror movie is way harder then I thought.

Btw, a little question TimmyD: "

Is it ok if that line is said in Norwegian? And of course, subtitled in english...
I think it would be better to speek Norwegian then crappy english.

I sure hope so, given our artistic and bold decision to have all the dialogue in Basement Tails done in Latin even though the film takes place in New England. You know... because Mel Gibson is my hero and all. And the heck with subtitles. If you want to understand it, go learn latin!

Ok this time I am actually pulling out of haunfest. I needed to get my film filmed before stuff for our fall drama (I'm tech crew for shows so I also have work to do) started and now it has and everyday people are in our theatre so we can't film. Damn I really wanted to enter. Ohh well maybe next year. You'll still get my 30 force don't worry.

If my advice is worth anything, here it is: On the days you shoot, shoot everything, and shoot a lot. Production is sometimes faster this way, and then it helps out in post because you have a wider selection. Always get a rough edit done first... don't fine tune everything, just work the basic stuff out on the timeline, then fine cut from there, and do effects and grading last, sound design being before those.

Not that you don't already know that...

That's exactly it, though, Timmy. I'm a picky shooter but a ferocious one. I can get it done. I can also grade in a snap. In fact, when Atom/I edit, the video usually HAS to be graded first, otherwise we don't feel the true flow of the movie. Sound design is going to be tough, because from what I've storyboarded, it needs to be the STRONGESt element of my movie, yet it's something that I have no sound effects for, not a good enough mic to do foley, and no experience at. I see a failure, which sucks, because I really don't want to let everyone down.

Mine will be a quickie, short film, and surely a cliche plot. But I just want to do something for fun. I just want to shoot, edit, light, and do the sound will in preperation for my annual project.

Ok well I'm going to have to drop out of this competition as well.

I just learned that my best friend, as well as the kid who helped me come up with my idea for this contest, died friday morning. Worst part is we still don't know what exactly happened to him. He just collapsed on the floor.

I'm not sure how I'm going to make it through this week, but uhh yeah, I'm out. frown

I am filming this thursday because I have a day off of school. I was going to film over the weekend with a different story but I have to go see my relatives in Conneticut this weekend.

Hopefully it DOES scare me. After the total dissapointment I had the other night at the Grudge 2, I need something.

As for my entry, nothing has been filmed. With everything going on right now I doubt I'll be entering, but that's probably as it should be. Problems arrise when contest hosts start winning their own contests wink /joke. I'll be donating 100 force to the winner.

Oh my god... three days for submissions left. We had better get some more submissions. My goal is at least five, make it happen, people.
