Here it is: my first office diary. We thought it might be fun to open a little window on the FXhome office so you guys can glimpse what goes on behind closed doors.

Gearing up

As most of you will have read in the The New FXhome HQ news post, we've moved into new offices. This has been a pretty dramatic shift for all of us – bear in mind that we all joined FXhome straight after university, finding ourselves in a cushdy job that allowed us to work from home. This not only helped the company to focus the finances on product rather than property, it also gave us a very easy segue from student life to real life.

So, five years later we're all rather accustomed to the benefits of working from home – nearby muffins, comfy chairs, endless choices for lunch, not to mention an easy commuting distance of about three metres. The prospect of having to get up earlier, jump in a car and drive to work was ever-so-slightly worrying.

Settling in

It's been a smooth ride so far. At the moment it's just me, Cogz and schwar in the office, until Jackpot is able to move up to Norwich and malone comes to visit. We've all got a nice double-depth desk to work at and top notch Core2Duo machines that run faster than Klut with his hair on fire.

Straight away we noticed how much easier everything is compared to when we worked out of the virtual office. Although we'd always been in constant communication via IRC, you simply can't beat being in the same room with a handy whiteboard. When Cogz is explaining the subtle intricacies of HSV and RGB colour spaces, you don't really want to be separated by several miles of Internet cable.

The Sign

We were reminded just how generous and talented the FXhome.com community is last week when Ashman offered to create our official FXhome office sign. Thanks to him, we now have a fantastic metal sign stuck on the office door. It's top quality stuff, made of a polymeric vinyl placed onto brushed steel dibond board (no, I'm not sure what half of that means either). I think we're the first in the building to have a proper sign – thanks Ashman!

If anybody else would like to send us things – Christmas cards, cakes, free stuff, cakes – then this is our new official address:

FXhome
Henderson Business Centre
Ivy Road
Norwich
Norfolk
NR5 8BF
ENGLAND

Henderson opening video

We're actually some of the first people to move into the NWES Henderson Business Centre, so we were featured in the promotional video that was shown today at the official opening of the building.

The FXhome-related part of the video can be found below and also stars Katie and Lucy, who are responsible for keeping the building running smoothly and have been a great help to us these last few weeks.

Office Banter

DEFCON – best office lunch-time game ever?

To-Do Lists – they're great!

Cogz's Snack Box – we couldn't live without it.

Penguin movies – why are there so many of them?

Tesco pastries – vanilla crown or cinammon whirl?

Cheesy TV intros – Quantum Leap or Renegade?

Smarties – throwing them at Cogz is a bad idea.

I love how you censored that the grand f**kening is coming.

It's great to see fxhome move into becoming more of a business, and I am very tempted to grab some of the other mods (read : er-no and Arktic) and plan a surprised attack.

Hey!
That censor bar is a soon-to-be-release plugin...

Always, been, lurking, averagejoe.
Thought is was a good time to dump a mag in the new building.

Kid - I don't look majorly white in the video afaict? In the image I look rather bright due to schwar fiddling about in Photoshop. smile

Digerati - they didn't use our products, but the version I included in the news post I bunged on some good old glowy grading (I know how much ben3308 likes it) and, of course, the cheesy music.

Good to see you back, codec3!

Right, all we have to do now is wait and see who is the first person to send us something cool. wink
