Marco 'Sollthar' Von Moos is a man that knows how to blow things up, as we've seen demonstrated in his movies from the early days of Turicon to the forthcoming NightCast. The good news is that he's willing to share his pyrotechnic skills, having just released a new selection of top quality stock footage.

The Collection

"Like every filmmaker, I've created and collected a big range of different stock effects to use," says Marco. "It's very difficult to find good stock footage on the web - usually it's either free and bad quality, or good quality but awfully expensive. We've tried to mix good quality with a good price."

There's several packs available, starting at a miniscule $25, so if you've ever had a need for smoke, blood, fire and explosions you know where to go.

Christmas Discount

Just when you thought things couldn't get any better, Marco's also throwing a special Christmas discount into the bargain, so if you buy before February 2007 you get even better value for money.

Click below to head straight over to the NC Cinema shop:

Without a doubt a must have for every filmmaker. I have looked everywhere for good stock footage and NCC's still comes up top of the list. Great price for great quality clips.

Ok, I quickly threw together a clip in the nick of time. Didnt take long AT ALL. So if people are looking to buy i recommend checking out sollthars stock demo and if you wish to take a look at this.

We tried hard to make the stock as useful as possible. So far, I've already seen it put to great use. smile

So I hope you'll like it and make some kickass effects with it. wink

Interesting idea Jazz. Wasn't thinking of that (because I was planning on making this an electronic order only since we had some problems with sending CD's last time).

Should that be a special wish, I could of course easily arrange that.

If you could post the mailing address, an idea of what the price would be to include producing a DVD and mailing it, etc. and the best payment options (which may have to be posting a banque check or money order or something as opposed to pay-pal, etc.) I might have a prospect or two in mind. wink

They have to be processed manually, so usually within 24 hours.

(Have you ordered it? Because I've processed all orders so far. If you didn't get any email yet, check your spam folder or write me a pm shouldn't it be in there)

Pretty damn sweet. and i must say, the price is just amazing.

If i buy in HD, will it still work in the Lite versions of fxhome (at lower quality)? or will they not import at all?

The HD clips will import fine. The advantage of them for DV users is their increased resolution, so you can scale without losing much quality.

could anybody let me in on what the license agreement is like.

Can this footage be used in commercial films?

I noticed that it said "by buying this you agree to the enclosed license", but I am curious as to exactly what the terms of use are.

You can freely use them. The only restriction is, you're not allowed to redistribute the footage in any other form then composited to your background plate.

The footage is compatible with Effectslab, yeah. The fact it's HD resolution only helps when working with DV - so you can zoom in without loosing quality.

Being an extensive user of Sollthar's fine products, I can tell you they are well worth the inexpensive amounts he's asking for.

If you know what you are doing in a NLE - and most of you seem to do - you'll add Sollthar's priceless stock footage to your arsenal - because frankly, no one who even pretends to do an action movie can afford NOT to...

Informercial over. But buy Sollthar's footage - they are worth it. Really.

OK, I'm in for the Stock Pack! Quick question if I may:

Does the Super Stock Pack include all the effects from the individual HD packs? Or is it more like a greatest hits volume? Either way it seems to be packed with goodies. Can't wait to play!

So I'm not the only one kicking myself for find this stuff (Vlab & NCC Stock) after finishing my sci-fi action short?? Time to revisit some shots!! eek

Sweet - just got my download link (on a Sunday? thx man!). I noticed that they include everything in the individual packs - SWEET.

Thanks for such a great discount, I really think between Vlab and the Stock Pack, this will bring my effects to different level. I will pass your site (and FXhome's site as well) onto my filmmaking buddies in the area.

2007 is starting out really great. smile

No, the stock pack are different explosions to the ones as AlamDV plugins.

The smokepack contains smoke clips you can use to enhance your explosions. That's what it's been made for.

The democlip is in quicktime format, so you'll need quicktime to watch it.

And the clips come as an online download.

They're easy compatible with all the fxhome software. Though as it is HD resolution, you will either need a PRO application or downconvert the clips to SD. Then they work eveywhere.

I just now bought the super pack too and have a couple of questions.

I have VisionLab so I'm curious how they work. Are they imported as and fuction like the effects plugins that can be edited and placed where I want them? Or is this different than the plugins?

Hi and thank you!

They're stock footage. So they're video clips of effects recorded in front of a chroma background. You import them as media, then composit them using an "add" or "blend" key.

You might have to do some postgrading on the clips to make them fit your current shot. Especially with the blood package, which has been graded to optimal keyablitity rather then realistic blood color.

I hate to sound thick headed, but I'm still very new to this stuff. In VisionLab I do not see anything about an add or blend key.

Would there happen to be a tutorial on doing this?

Thanks, and the clips do look very cool, BTW.

You need to postgrade the footage until it matches your plate. Key it, then change color, contrast and levels etc.

It's all a matter of using the right key and grading options.
