After nearly five years of download-only distribution, we now have actual boxed products. Even better, the first batch is already available for purchase from Amazon.co.uk to anybody in the UK or Europe.

The boxes

We’ve always wanted to have boxed versions of our software, so we’re very excited to reveal the final designs. Eagle-eyed FXhomers will have already spotted these box designs gracing various pages on FXhome.com, but this is the first time they’ve existed in physical form.

The boxes were designed to have a strong, iconic appearance, with prominent use of the product logos and primary colours. The back covers, meanwhile, cram in all the crucial, juicy details and lots of excellent example shots. Huge thanks go to Ashman, Sollthar, MMMprod and er-no for letting us use their superb footage for the images.

Inside the box

So what exactly do you get inside an FXhome box? Well, let’s take a closer look...

There’s the program itself, of course, stored safely on a stylish, pressed CD. We’re particularly pleased with the VisionLab Studio CD, which works brilliantly with the ‘eye’ logo.

Most exciting, however, is getting a professionally printed and bound reference manual and quickstart, so you can now easily flick to the right page without needing to load up a fiddly PDF file.

Availability

Only VisionLab Studio and the Pro products are available boxed; the Lite products will remain as online downloads exclusive to FXhome.com. You can already buy FXhome products direct from Amazon.co.uk and we’re expecting more European retailers to start selling over the next few months.

If you’re in Europe and want your local retailer to stock it, simply request it politely and point them our way if they need details. Retailers should contact Simon Jones by emailing us at corporate@fxhome.com.

This is a hugely exciting time for us and we’d like to again say thank you to everyone that’s helped us get this far. We hope that you will all stick around as we move into this unexplored new territory.

If current users are interested in buying the boxes we might be able to sort something out, but I expect they won't be overly cheap.

Is it possible to upgrade to a printed manual if you are an existing Pro owner?

Congratulations guys on the move to offices and boxed products. I hope the company goes from stength to strength on the back of these expansions.

We don't currently have the ability to do that, and I can't make any promises but it's definitely something we'll look into. Being able to offer printed manuals to online purchasers for a reasonable additional fee would certainly be a good idea.

Thanks petet2, and thanks everyone else for your kind words!

I WANT THAT!

seriously, I might save money, find some random shop in Luxembourg (not much tax there) and buy Vlab just for the box

the program? its good... but the boxes are WAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYY sexier...

For easter, you should make chocolate versions of the boxes (because I know how much you guys love your chocolatey fun)

Come to think of it themed boxes would be a good idea. for christmas, you could have the FXhome team dressed up like Santa for the cover (or you could make those prizes/limited time offers in the store) smile

I find it truly an honor to watch the growth of this company. With the new website design, I think it not only is appealing to the eye, but it is a great demo of what this software can do.

Then you have the Team moving into a new building.

And now actual physical boxes for distribution. It is encouraging to say the least when your idea has these physical representations to show progress, and how well your product works.

Conratulations, you guys have worked long and hard for us (and continue to do so), and I am grateful and appreciative.

Are you currently only supplying to European retailers? Because I would like to request that several American online retailers sell your products; though honestly, I have no intention of buying a boxed copy. heh

One thing, which has always kept me from buying the then Chromanator and now CompositeLab is this: do you still require a timestamp update?

Hey ben3308 - Neither the boxed and download versions of the software have a timestamp update anymore. The program does inform you if there is an update on the website but it doesn't force you to install it.

Great news that there is a new update on the way. How long is it likely to be before the updates become new versions of the software and we will have to pay an upgrade fee?

I'm not asking you to bill me again smile but we all have to be realistic and accept that if we want you to be here in the future you have to get income from somewhere! Most companies seem to work off a 12 month life cycle before you have to pay for the next version/upgrade. What is the FX Home stance on this?

This is all VERY subject to how business goes over the following months but here is how things have worked and maybe how they'll work in the coming years...

Life cycles have always worked a bit differently for FXhome due to the HUGE amount of work involved with the products and the website and how tiny our team is. There has also been a significant learning curve for us as anyone from the days of AlamDV2 will understand wink.

We've been updating the charger engine (on which our current range is based) quite a bit and over the last 10 month and also aiming on physical distribution. The last year of updates has been counted as development work to fully finish the product for you guys. In this time we've added many more features, new languages and ended up with a faster and more stable product range.

With the Amazon.co.uk boxed product being released, the new website and the next software update (version 1.002.000 is my favourite update so far!) I think we can finally call this software "released".

To that end, although we will still be working on the current range, we'll be looking to the future as well. We are going to try and adopt the industry standard lifecycle for our software meaning an 18-24 month shelf life (depending on mid-life facelifts) for the current range from now before anything "version 2" appears.

Lol you don't want to take more money even when I offer it to you!

Seriously though it is great to know that we are all free of upgrade charges for a nice while yet. There are many big companies out there who feel compelled to drain cash from their user base every 12 months irrespective of whether an upgrade is worth it or not.

Thanks to all of you at FX Home. I intend to be a user for a long time and dream of upgrading to VisionLab one day - how about a Christmas competition giveaway for a copy smile

Hopefully this wasn't answered before:
What about the guys who bought the download versions in the beginning and want to have a box version for their shelf(sp) ?
Is there a way for them to get one? Or do they have to buy a complete new licence?

Either way, great news to hear! Gonna continue cross fingers for you and your success!

It would depend how many people want to buy a box if they already have the downloaded version. I'm sure we could set something up but it would take time and money to do and we would need to be sure it would be more than one or two people who wanted to get the box/manual.

Any chance this will be migrating over to the old US version of Amazon for folks with accounts already set up there? Or is it a proprietary thing just for Amazon UK?

The ridding of the timestamp and the boxing of the product is a great, great step forwards, you guys; and it has made it even easier for me to make the decision to hand away money for your product, seeing as now I can physically receive something. Since this news, I know a couple of people who have told me they're going to buy from you guys. Bravo, CSB, bravo.

Not sure it's news exactly, the timestamp was removed back in April. smile We also haven't been called CSB for years. wink

The timestamp was removed because while it was very effective against piracy (which is a major problem for us), it also inconvenienced a small minority of users. Whether it was the right decision or not remains to be seen, I suppose. smile
