First off, the season is upon us, so...
MERRY X-MAS
Staying with the thread title "Brand new bag..." that wdy has done for a few years, I thought it was about time to pull the cows in and start posting Christmas lists.

So, go ahead y'all, list away!

Mine is for my birthday and christmas, since they are only days apart. Plus, a note from last year is that you can put things you want but aren't necessarily going to get. Seeing as how last year I got a Canon GL2, a TV, a PSP, and a wide-angle lens-this year might be far, far less extravagant. But there's always hope for that PS3-maybe I can buy one in March when they ship them again. wink

Atom's Chris-mirth-day List '06
-Sony PS3 (60 GB Version)
-Microsoft Zune Media Player (Black)
-Rode VideoMic
-Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops (PSP)
-R6: Vegas (PSP)
-GTA: Vice City Stories (PSP)
-LoCo RoCo (PSP)
-Killzone: Liberation (PSP)
-Family Guy Volume 4: Season 5 (DVD)
-Superman Returns 2-Disc Special Edition (DVD)
-Little Miss Sunshine (DVD)
-Talladega Nights (DVD)
-Snakes on a (Mothaf**king) Plane (DVD)
-24 Season 5 (DVD)
-Pirates 2 (DVD)
-Entourage Season 1 & 2 (DVD)
-Sopranos Season 6 (DVD)
-Clothes
-An Analog/Digital Watch
-A Flat-Panel TV
-Pumas
-A Subwoofer
-Wireless Headphones

If I were you I'd hold off on the PS3 until at least one good, exclusive game comes out for it. At the moment seeing as the 360's been out for a year, its game library totally and undeniably blows the PS3's out of the water (Gears of War, Dead Rising, Halo 3 soon, etc). So far MGS4 seems to be the only announced one (except for that Japanese Knight RPG thing that everyone was drooling over, but I doubt that's your thing). You might also want to look into getting a 360 instead, too, since Xbox Live is just amazing, while the PS3's online features are greatly disapointing (although it was to be expected considering they were tacked on at the last minute).

Anyway, that's off topic, what I want:

-Skis and skiing gear!
-Projector or HDTV for our living room
-Wii
-Xbox 360
-New CPU, Mobo, RAM, GPU

It ain't a lot, but it sure costs a lot razz

-Mini35 and a lens or it

-a digital SLR of any kind

-a Varizoom Steadicam

-Follow Focus and Mattebox

-Banana Republic, GAP, or American Eagle clothes; preferrably the former.

-and then there's the DVD's and games, like:
-Smallville, the seasons that we don't own
-24, seasons 4 and 5
-Little Miss Sunshine
-a few others, too many to name

Of course, money/giftcards that can be used to obtain these things also qualify as great gifts.

Oh, and maybe some sort of screen and mounted stand for my projector. And maybe a Zune, if the new iPod isn't slated for release pretty soon. As usual, all this stuff I'd also like for my birthday, which is three days after Christmas and before New Years.

For shame, Evman, for shame. A car? Dang. Ben and I share a nice 99' Toyota Avalon with leather interior and everything, so I don't know car woes. It's likely Ben will get my dad's Ford Expedition for his B-Day. My dad's been buggin for a little BMW for..................well...............his entire life.

Thats what I want. What I am giving to everyone is an animated christmas claymation about a man that can't set up his christmas tree without messing everything up.

Any celebrators of Kwanza around here?
I'd like to know what the big K is all about.

My completely unrealitic holiday wishlist:

Six Xserve RAIDS and eight 3 ghz Mac Pros, all preloaded with Visionlab, the Final Cut Pro Suite, Maya Unlimited, every Soundogs file ever, and every single clip of NCC, Detonation Films, and Artbeats stock footage.

Three Canon X1 H1's with an entire basement full of professional lighting gear and four walls of EEFX chromakey fabric.

A boom for swing shots.

A professional tripod.

A dolly complete with 30 miles of track.

An unlimited supply of MiniDV's.

A Lawrence Kasdan script.

Any actor or actress that ever lived willing to be in my film.

A John Williams theme.

And in case i forgot anything.........a genie.

Mine:
New lens for my camera (17-40 f/4.0L)
Graphire4 Wacom Pad (6" X 8")
Decent monopod
Decent Tripod
Red Steel (if I like it when I play it at friend's)
Maybe Rayman, not sure...
Some Wii Fishing game (I love bad/good/any kind of fishing games, I don't know why...
NCC Stock Footage
Netflix Organizer App
iPod speakers
A nice LED Flashlight
A Leatherman
EDIT: I might cross off some other stuff and get a LensBaby 2.0

That doesn't seem like much, but item #1 is expensive.

You know, you really need to stop flaming people and bashing their opinions. It seems to me that you consider everything you say to be right, and everything that conflicts with your opinion to be wrong.

Maybe Atom's thankful that he just has a car huh? Or are you just bashing him cause he doesn't have the $60,000 BMW that you've got?

jgtrox2 is a young filmmaker who's beginning to jump into the world of filmmaking. If you were any type of filmmaker you'd recognize the GOOD things he's doing in his films, and compliment them, rather than focus on what he's doing wrong.

Stop grinding things other people say into the ground and stop being so self-centered and rude. This is a friendly community, and it's not cool to come and intrude with your own selfish opinions. I'm not saying that all of your thoughts are not valid, but you need to consider what others think too.

NickD

EDIT: Oh gosh, here come the negative ratings.
EDIT: Never mind.

Well, here's my list (so far, there will probably be more ;P):

Books (inspired by the awesome book thread here on FXhome)
Rebel without a crew
1001 films you must see before you die
From reel to deal
The complete book of scriptwriting
Film Directing: Shot by shot

Games
Gears Of War (360)

Rainbow Six: Vegas (360)

Movies

24: Season 5

Other

A new mobile phone (the one I have right now doesn't work)

^^ Why the XL H1? The XH A1 has all the capabilities, is two thirds the size, and half the price! You should look into it. Unless you were kidding and thinking about the most expensive camera you could think of. In which case you're wrong, and it would have to be red camera.

Oops, hehe. I metioned the XL H1 in an earlier post. Since then ive changed my mind, because camcorder info reviewed the XH A1. biggrin

You people should be thankful and have some pity for people like me. This'll probably be the Christmas that I give a lot more than I get. My parents have spent so much money remodelling the house (painting it, new windows, new fence, ect.) this year that we can only spend $50 on eachother. What do I want?

Hey, been gone awhile, but just thought I'd say, Nick, that while it may seem incredibly negative, MC Turtleneck is a good friend of mine that also happens to enjoy/be a member of FXHome and is just being sarcastic.

He's hopefully calming down. Oh, and he doesn't even have a car. My car pwns anyway. Maybe not as much as Serpent's BMW, but still it PWNS major n00bage.

My parents are off right now to buy Ben a Zune. I already have an iPod, but otherwise would've loved one. During our break we traveled to Arkansas, and in a HUGE Wal-Mart in some podunk town in Arkansas, Ben and I joked with the electronics people, who had people moving left and right of them to buy stuff, saying

"So did you get a big crowd for the PS3?"

Suprisingly, the woman answered

"Oh yeah, real big. We already sold our last 2 of them today, about an hour ago."

It turned out it was true, and we couldnt believe it, and she thought that was a long time. If only we had got there an hour earlier.

Don't get a multi effects processor. Get individual. Better tone. Little bit more expensive, but with the money that it takes to purchase the RP150, you can get a few nice effects. My latest gigging rig is this (and it rocks)

Guitar
Bad Monkey
Bad Monkey (higher gain)
Danelectro Tuna Melt
Rocktron Tsunami
Matrix Stomp TUner
Tech 21 TM60

Sorry for hijacking the thread smile

certainly, Turtl3n3ck, also known as "7h13v3ry". You know dude, as this forum is run by a software company, it's probably not the best place to bring up illegal software downloads...eh They've probably had trouble with cheap kids trying to steal Vlab and such.

NickD, really I did some poking around and people gave this thing pretty good reviews. I understand that a individual pedal may give a better tone but this sounds pretty good to me. And also one of the main things about this pedal that I like is that I could record my music to the computer. Also I really am still a beginner to guitars razz.

That is a nice set up biggrin!

^^ Why the XL H1? The XH A1 has all the capabilities, is two thirds the size, and half the price! You should look into it. Unless you were kidding and thinking about the most expensive camera you could think of. In which case you're wrong, and it would have to be red camera.
Some people prefer the larger bodied cameras. Usually someone who has made that decision has looked at all sides. While the GL style bodied cameras are smaller, a lot of people prefer the cinematography qualities better (lenses, removable parts, shoulder mount, more professional 3rd party gear, and in the HD.) I would prefer the XH, but the lens feature is a biggie.

Comparison chart.

My list is subject to change. I just "found" $350 on my Paypal account (I had NO idea it was stored on there, thought it went straight to my card. That's how they earn money, they charge interest for the cash you don't transfer apparently) so I'll be buying some stuff that was on my list. I think I'm going to add a LensBaby 2.0 and buy some of the stuff I think my parents will have trouble finding.

I don't mean to be rude or anything but I don't see how Christmas can be cancelled. Even if you don't get any gifts at all you can still celebrate it can't you? After all, Christmas was never intended on being centered on presents.

I never did understand the point of having two of the same generation consoles. Oh well, I suppose if your going to, Wii+360 or Wii+PS3 is better than PS3+360 because the Wii is kinda different.

Serpent, you are right. The stability offered by a shoulder-mounted camera is nice, and the jack-pack is a plus for people who are really into compression. The bottom line is, the entire Canon professional HD line is awesome.

And, fellas, I've found what I feel to be the "ultimate".

The Wii's graphical and processing machines are just a smidge better than last generations powerhouse--the XBox. If you want a Wii for the games, the price, the controller, the innovation, etc go for it (I did and love it.) But don't expect a whole generation leap in graphics(maybe 1/6 generation step up.) The 360 and PS3 can produce much nicer looking stuff and I know Pooky is into that.

That's true, I just never was impressed with the XbBox360's graphics myself; they seemed to some how have some kind of odd style in the textures in all the games. PS3's graphics are, yes, amazing (although, not as amazing as I would have thought in a basket ball demo I played) but now that technology has advanced so much there really isn't a huge difference.
Observe:

Of course there is a noticeable difference but as I said, not a huge one.
But as I said in my last post, I do understand why he might want Wii+PS3/360 because of the Wiis Inovation.

Man, you are not using good comparisons at all. The Sonic comparisons--Sonic is basically a cartoon. The PS3 screen is also a bad one at a weird angle. PS3 sonic:

http://www.ps3.es/imagenes/sonic-ps3.jpg

Next, the game Disaster: Day of Crisis (Wii, top left, second screen shot comparison you posted) has no gameplay footage. That is a prerendered movie scene that they used for the trailer. Then whoever made that silly little collage used a bad 360 game made by a sucky 3rd party (EA) and the same sucky, cartoon sonic screen. Also note: the consoles are all in early stages, for graphical powerhouses it's difficult to figure out how the machines will work. Last gen hardware has already been mastered (about what the Wii is.)

The furthest the Wii has been pushed graphically is probably that Sonic game, Mario Galaxy, and Metroid Prime 3. The furthest the PS3 has been pushed is MGS4, Assassin's Creed, Killzone, etc. The 360 has been pushed to Elder Scrolls 4, Halo 3, and a bunch of others I can't think of. The point is, those games are levels beyond Wii graphically. You are horribly blinded by a fanboy attitude. The Wii is less powerful by quite a long shot. Get over it. There IS a HUGE difference, but using comparisons like that is ignorant.

ENOUGH! Is it just me, or are people really tired of listening to this PS3, Xbox, Wii nonsense? Pick the system and games which work for you. I think by now people have heard the pros and cons of each system, and hopefully, can form an educated opinion. Just keep it to yourself, and quit trying to "convert" people. Serpent, this is not directed towards you, I am jsut tired of listening to bias kids trying to defend "their" system! I realize you are a Wii fan, and I thank you for pointing out the negative facts concerning your system of choice.

Alrighty then, who are you directing this at then? No one here I have seen is trying to convert anyone. We are having a discussion and I was simply responding to the images he posted (that were ridiculous comparisons targetted for the Wii fan(boy)base to feel more secure with "their system." I can discuss what I like, thank you very much. This is one of the many recent console threads that lacks these arguments. I see no one sidedness here. Maybe misinformation or misinterpretation, but I think you are a little bit off:

Pooky wants a Wii and a 360. Jabooza seems to be interested in the Wii. I am only really interested in the Wii (but I never bashed anyone, did I? Maybe I bashed the Wii a bit...) Those are the sides of this mini conversation. I think you should calm down just a bit.

Also, even it was, see Evman's post... And back to Xmas lists.

It's getting even closer, any new lists? I myself must admit, after more time with the Zune, I more desperately want one. Supports like every filetype, too.

Microsoft did something right.

I only wish the Zune wasn't an unfortunate looking brick.

(I'm still glad I bought a Creative Zen vision M)

However, I don't really celebrate Christmas anymore thanks to fun divorce related stuff.

Since Wiis– how do you pluralize wii anyway?– seem to be pretty scarce, ( mad eek mad mad mad eek ) my list has been modified to include a CD/DVD labeler, Civilization IV, and Civilization IV: Warlords expansion pack.
