Calling all Nintendo fans in the US!

You guys are lucky enough to be getting your hands on the Wii before us over here on the other side of the Atlantic (I think it's today isn't it?). I have been asked for some initial feedback from new Wii owners by my Nintendo crazy son who is counting off the seconds until the European release date on 8th December.

How good is the Wii? How well does the wireless controller work in the confines of a bedroom rather than at a staged presentation by Nintendo? How good is Twilight Princess? What other release games are worth buying? Anything and everything really.

Hope you are enjoying your new consoles. Thanks!

I didn't get one... I went 30 min early and went to 7 stores but there was always a huge line or they were sold out. Lines were mainly comprised of adults too.

You couldnt've seriously thought going to a couple stores 30 minutes before opening would give you a strong chance at a Wii. As for me, Ben and I stood outside of Best Buy for about an hour with my friend last night. Him and another friend of mine who came later, taking my 'spot' (I never actually wanted one) got Wiis and Zelda and Red Steel each. The Wiimotes, nunchucks, and GC Wii controllers were all gone by the time he got to his 19th spot in a line of 26 Wiis. Luckily, knowing that Wal-Mart had the controllers out but weren't selling them yet, we took a bunch of them from the snotty people at Wal-Mart waiting for Wiis and hid them all over the place. Now him and my other friend each have 2 of each controller. First impressions............better than I expected.

You guys are all so lucky. My parents always yell at me if I want to get stuff like this first day. They always say why can't I wait till christmas. If I could have I'd have been out there last night waiting in line and playing zelda right now till my eyes bleed.

EDIT:

Case and Point:

Having just asked my mom if I can go out and spend MY money, I get a lecture about how I don't understand the value of money and want instant gratification for insignificant and frivolous things.

Now what the hell do I tell her?

I got a Wii around 12:20 this morning and I must say that it's better than I expected (and I expected it to be really good). The marketing slogan that Nintendo used (Playing=believing) is very true due to the fact that since, at this time, no other systems like it exist where you have a full range of motion that controls the game. This makes playing it very revolutionary and an eye-opening experience.

Okay, I was looking forward to the Wii insanely much... but now that I have it... I believe it was crafted by the hands of god biggrin

Seriously even wii sports is insanely fun. I thought it wqould be lame, but my brother and I stayed up til 2:00 playing that and Excite ?ruck (also ridiculously fun) The controls really really really pull you in and are top notch. It's really precise. Even the spin you put on the ball in bowling is awesomely precise! Oh man... I'm off to break out the Zelda!!!! razz

I thought it came with a remote controller and nunchuck controller? Why did you have to buy one separately?

Glad to hear you're all having such fun with it.

Bah, Pook and Ev. I feel both of you. I'm never allowed to buy ANYTHING with MY own money. And, well, yeah the "value of money" lecture comes in when I suggest it.

I was just hanging there with my friends. If I was allowed to spend my own dough, you'd see pics of me playing a PS3 in my sig.

So far Wii is awesome!

I'm a bit concerned for Nintendo though.... They want this to be for "everyone" including the people who dont normally play video games...

I play video games alot.... and I am having hard time getting over the learning curve of how to control the character in Red Steel. It can get really confusing and pretty difficult to keep everything in frame and to shoot the guys at the same time etc etc

Maybe more practise is what I need *runs off to Wii*

Definitely a learning curve.

After 5 hours of Zelda though, it works AMAZINGLY. Better than buttons even. (I actually feel threatened by the freakin' enemies) I was thinking about how boring it seems to play with a button for the sword now. Teehee

i was going to go to my local circuit city at 5 in the morning with my friend on sunday. but then he came over to my house after driving by the store and told me that we were going camping. the store only had 38 units and there were 27 people in line. we then raced there as fast as we could and i was number 31 in line. after a long night of people yelling in the street and the occasional drive-by of water balloons from skate punks, i finally got my system at 10:00. all i have to say is that wii tennis and bowling is amazing. if anyone read the review of zelda at gamespot, disregard it. zelda is beyond incredible, and i'm only two hours into the game! buy a wii, you wont be sorry! biggrin

Hehe seems highly likely to me that the ps3 is going to be the slug in the next gen. Blueray may be useful to you guys over in the states but in england I only know 1 person that has a high def tv, it's gonna take a year or 2 for it to take over here I think as noone understands it or so it seems. With that in mind the ps3 is a bit pricey over here, especially when we seem to be paying more as well for it. Oh well.

I LOVE the pointer! The way the Wiimote shakes just a little bit when you hover over something is incredible! I can't wait for the Opera Browser! Wii Sports is awesome! I have no complaints except that the cursor goes off screen when you aren't pointing it at the screen... But oh well.

Oh my effing God. I am 5:30 hours into Twilight Princess (taking it slow as hell) and I know this willl top OoT if it keeps up. The controls are AWESOME. Of course, I exaggerate the swing for fun. Wii Sports is fun for about an hour, but it shows off the functions and is a very simple way to introduce people to it. I also have Monkey Ball. I must say, I am blown away. I'm not a fan of Monkeyball 1 player, but multiplayer RULES. I think the coolest mini game I've played so far is darts, you hold your remote like a dart and make the throwing motion (holding 'A' to hold on and letting go to release.) I am embarassed to say my little sister beat me in almost every mini game which proves to me that Nintendo accomplished their goal. She is usually pretty terrible at console games. It is now in my best interest to improve. smile I'm going to get a screen of my Mii, but it looks just like me. It's uncanny. I've already given my impressions of the Wiimote in another thread, but I'll say it again: smooth, and so easy to do precision things like typing fast. Love their use of the rumble. My Wii code will be in my sig as soon as it updates. I've been out of town for 2 days (got it the midnight of at Walmart after waiting for 26 hours, which was fun, good people there.)

I think that's just because Ubisoft isn't quite as good at making first person shooters as Nintendo, although I will admit that Excite Truck takes all little getting used to because of the super sensitive controls but it's not so much of a learning curve as it is just adjusting; it's still fun right from the start.

Well, after about 13 hours of playing, I must say, the wii is awesome. After playing twilight princess for about 4 hours, it is one of my favorite games of all time. The action and adventure are perfect. I can't count how many hours I've played wii sports, however.razz Red steel is a pretty good game as well, although the controls take some getting used to. But after you change the remote sensitivity to low, it's pretty awesome. What games and extras did you guys get? I got:

Red steel
Twilight princess
1 extra wiimote
1 extra nunchuk
2 classic controllers

Red Steel is not targetted for those people. Things like Monkeyball, Wii Sports, Wario Ware, etc. are more in that field. Red Steel has absolutely nothing to do with Nintendo's plan for universal gaming thing. In fact, Zelda steps outside of that box, as does Metroid. Again, my sister immediately got the controls for several Monkeyball games, Tennis, Bowling, etc. My friend's parents are buying a Wii controller for them to use in the future. I saw this at Fusion Tour as well, random people who had never heard of it were getting it instantly. Also, Red Steel is a pretty "meh" game. If Ubisoft payed attention to Nintendo's Metroid demo and even COD3's controls, they may have had a but of a more polished game.

I too didn't like Excite Truck controls. It isn't sensitive enough in relation to the speed you are going at. I know it can be done, and hopefully it will with any FZero or Mario Kart games they make. It is too fast and not enough sensitive. I crashed every 10 seconds, maybe I need to get used to it, but I still want more sensitivity.

In other news, Turbo Grfx games are now on virtual console. razz My Wii code is in my sig by the way.

9.5 hours into Zelda.

Holy. Crap.

It's a better game that OoT. I can't even try to deny that for a second. biggrin That being said, I still like OoT better, but that's only because it's been ingrained into my mind and soul. I don't know. OoT just seemed easier to connect with for me.... I was also like 10 years younger... but yeah. TP is one of the best games ever!

I know it counts the time, but it stops after each time you switch games, so that would take a while.wink Is excite truck a good game? I'm asking for it for Christmas.

YES, Excite Truck is an absolutely AWESOME game. If you like arcade racers you'll LOVE Excite Truck, and if you don't like arcade racers...you'll still probly love it. Its soooo fast! I haven't beaten the game yet but it isn't looking like it will take very long do so, so I don't think the will last you to long if you don't want to go back and race more tracks...but I think you will. I here there's no computer racers in the 2P mode but I imagine it would be fun anyway.
You should definitely ask for it for Christmas. I'm thinking of asking for Zelda but I want to try it before I do.

Oh man. My grandparents, cousins, friends and parent's friends all tried Wii Sports tonight, and they loved it! I doubted Nintendo could pull this whole "Getting Non-gamers to play" thing, but it worked! I mean, it really worked! My grandparents loved it! My dad and his friend really got into bowling! It was awesome!

Make sure you 'try it' for about 5 hours to get a really good feel for it.

Trust me, you should just buy it. I've played 16 hours and this game is probably the best I've ever played. TRUST ME AND EVERYONE ELSE WHO'S PLAYED IT when we say to just go for it.

I agree. It would probably be better just to buy it, if you think you're gonna end up getting it, than spend money on renting or anything like that. If you ask me, it's definantly worth getting.razz

It is so cool! I got to play it for like 30 minutes with Jabooza's wii and it is really fun. The turning is so natural that you don't even notice it. The graphics are pretty cool too as I'm concerned (my current console is a PS1.) I got to play wii sports tennis too IT IS AWESOME!

I just saw some new Super Smash Bros. Brawl scans. Here they are:

http://www.news4gamers.com/wii/News-16072.aspx

Not that much different, but I think these are some of the first SSBB screens that weren't taken straight from the trailer.

EDIT: Ok, I put in the new link. You have to scroll down a little and click on the thumbnails.

Gamecube can be used for NES, SNES, and N64. I'm not sure about genesis or turbo-grafx. The Wii remote can be used for NES and turbografx, and some Genesis games. And of course, the classic controller works with all of them.razz

I totally got one and it's totally the most amazing thing I've ever experienced. Totally.

Wii code should be in my sig, but here it is anyway:
