We’re excited to announce the latest addition to the FXhome core team – none other than Neil ‘Hendo’ Henderson! So the question is: how does someone go from an FXhomer to an important position in the company itself?

It’s so easy

Hailing from Brisbane, Australia, Neil usually finds himself indulging in a spot of sport (cricket, football, cycling) or enjoying life with his wife. “I think Australia can best be summed up by some of our retail shop names,” he says, “which include Crazy Clark’s, Big Kev’s and Bras N Things.”

Stuck between the Gold Coast and the Sunshine Coast he certainly has no shortage of beaches and ways to relax – needless to say, he’s currently almost certainly the most healthy member of FXhome. That’s something we’ll be intending to rectify over the next few months.

Back in 2002, after being attracted to FXhome.com by our (Gold Award winning!) visual effects software, Neil soon discovered a “wonderful, thriving community of people from diverse backgrounds who share a love of filmmaking.” Little did he know it but, from that point onwards, his fate was sealed...

On those rare occasions when Neil ventured away from the great outdoors, he soon became a regular in FXhome.com live chat and we soon became aware of his uncanny bug-finding skills. Although schwar could often be heard screaming “he’s found another one!” and was all for hiring a hitman, the rest of us were convinced that Neil’s intricate work processes would make for an ideal beta tester.

Patience

As regular users will be aware, Neil has been listed as ‘Head tester’ on all the products for quite some time. The whole of the beta team does a fantastic job over the years but Neil has always pushed the envelope – and schwar’s patience – especially during the early stages of development.

We’re still not entirely sure how Neil could locate and pinpoint the really obscure issues. The current stability of the programs owe a large part to Neil’s sterling work, so it’s something for which we can all be grateful.

Welcome to the jungle

Moving from beta tester to employee became an increasingly obvious proposition, both for Neil and for us. He was clearly highly skilled and capable and would be a great addition to the team - but he already had a successful job and a family to support, so why would he be willing to make the jump to FXhome?

“The chance to combine my programming background,” he explains, “with my interest in all things video was and is very exciting!” As anybody that has worked long hours on a job they disliked will testify, finding employment that can both engage your mind and pay the bills is something of a holy grail. “It’s extremely motivating to work for a company and in an industry that I'm interested and passionate about,” says Neil.

As a Software Design Consultant, Neil will be looking into new technologies and interfaces for our future software. Unfortunately this means that we can't actually tell you what he’s working on at the moment! Needless to say, it’s exciting stuff and will be coming to a website near you later in the year...

Yeah. Definetely in an entirely straight non-gay way. We love you Hendo.

Well done on finding bugs that didn't even know THEY were there.

Heh, congratulations Hendo.

In a non-patronising way, it's awesome to see how well you guys are doing now (recruiting new staff is a sign of that) and it's inspiring. What next? An operating system? FXP?

Congrats on the new gig! I am pretty new here but based on the comments I've read you are certainly well-liked. It's also good to see the FXhome staff growing (this means more goodies for us in the future!).

Congratulations Hendo, you are definitely an excellent choice for a new team member.

I am not sure if you remember that time in chat, oh so long ago, where I briefly mentioned that you were on your way to being a team member, and would make a suitable addition, to which you replied, "In my dreams". I don’t want to say "I told you so", but that is far better than "wake up".

Congratulations.

Yeah, you better watch out. The team sure uses their imagination with a vat full of ice, a canoe paddle, duck tape, and a Klutfish.

That is simply the tip of the iceberg. The true extent of the initiation ceremonies is unknown to all but the team themselves. One can not even begin to fathom the horrors found within the mysterious and sinister corners of the expanse, deep within the FXhome Corporation.

We can only hope that the experience Hendo endured while becoming a beta tester has prepared him for the agony he will have to live through. Personally, I would say the experience has prepared me for anything.

Edit: I just want to say Hendo, even though the accident has left you looking entirely different, you are still a beautiful person on the inside. For those who are puzzled by this, the answer can be found within the original post, look closely.

Good luck my friend.

I've heard that the initiation ceremony involves an electric dog.

Is this true Tarn?

Thanks everyone. smile

Fortunately there's quite a bit of land & water protecting me from any initiation rites. Not to mention my personal army of sharks* which I could unleash at any whim.

* Sharks may or may not have laser beams attached to their heads.

I have one question for Neil (from somewhere across "The Pond" in the US):

WHAT THE HECK IS IT LIKE IN AUSTRALIA?

Not so long ago, my wife and I were talking about the state of political affairs here in the US, and she whishpered one day to me after church: "How do you feel about moving to Australia?"
"Huh? Where did that come from?"
We talked about it for quite some time. She said she had recently met a nurse from Australia who was over here to work in US hospitals for 2 years, then go home: some kinda exchange program.
I told my wife that when I met an authentic Aussie, I'd ask what it was like to live there.
So I'm askin'.
