I thought I'd start a thread where people can mark their achievements, however large or small.

I just handed in my third year dissertation essay, and I'm very pleased to have it out of the way. I'll try and upload it somewhere, as there are some references to FX Home and a couple of the people hereon.

Sounds cool, definitely like to have a read of that. I mentioned FXhome in my final dissertation too - back before I worked here, when we were still called 'CSB-Digital'. I even interviewed schwar. smile

It's pretty ropey really, but four years ago I thought it was great. razz

As for recent achievements, it's gotta be boxed product and good product reviews! Plus Waser likes my book.

Congratulations on the dissertation, Curtin smile

Recent achievements - I just got my marks back from a Media Law module, and I got a 1st (the only one in the class, too!). That was pretty awesome, as I thought I was going to get a 3rd biggrin

Being part of the student TV station that's taken home more awards than anyone else for the past three years running at the National Student Television Awards has been amazing.

Nice! But as a caveman I don't like Geico. but At this moment I don't have any movie or film achievements at this time. But while were on it I am happy to say that New Heavenly Films can on be found through yahoo.com But If I think of anymore achievements I'll let you know
*edit* I Do have one short one act play that was performed at my school and it might get published.

I've done mostly independant and small/low budget film, a few television episodes and a pilot or two...

Still, where I chose to join the "media" crowd has left me with relatively "small avenues" to special effects and armoury work- so I hold down a "Day Job" at Walt Disney World in Florida...

What I'd hoped to do as a full blown career is predominantly "part-time" which in and of itself is actually good considering I have a burgeoning family these days.

"Resume available upon supeona".

CurtinParloe - Congratulation on getting your dissertation handed in. Hope you get the marks you want.

The FXhome community and our software are my main achievements but they aren't really mine at all. The team and the community members make FXhome what it is but its still great to have had a hand in shaping it all.

Magazine reviews and boxed products are also very very cool! wink

My best achievement so far was to convince Michelle to become my girlfriend 8 years ago... And I managed to keep her. wink

Oh, and I've passed all of my current exams, so I'm only one little step away from finally graduating with my teachers diploma I might never use. But it's still cool to have it. smile

About the middle of the month, I and my wife were shooting some video for a television commercial at the local airport, when I got a call from a Fox station in Tampa to cover a news event for them. Their satellite truck was still 3 hours away. A Highway Patrol officer has been shot and the station called me to shoot B-roll footage and whatever interviews I could get. There was a HUGE police presence by the time I got to the crime scene, so no interviews were given until after Fox 13's sat truck got there at 7:30PM. But I did get alot of B-roll that was used on the 10PM and 11PM broadcasts that night. The reporter that showed up with the ABC crew asked me if they could get the footage I had, which I already had transferred from my camera to the Fox crew's Beta recorder. The Fox reporter said, "No way, the footage is ours!" So that made me feel kinda good that crews were clamoring for my footage. A couple of days later, the Director of News Programming called me to get a W-9 form and said, "Boy, you really saved out ass out there the other night! Everyone loved the footage and it cut together really well with the interview footage we got." So, I got a 100 dollar check out of the whole thing, but I had hoped it would happen under happier circumstances.

Got in at a great school last year in a great class, with really nice people. I also won the Hauntfest with "Cell", and made some highly rated presets.

Oh, and I started learning how to drive!

My school sent my parents a "random acts of kindness" certificate commending my good citizenship in the community. It includes an edited version of my yearbook shot that reads "Random Face of Kindness" This is all in the name of me helping a friend find his wallet, which was actually just lost in his own locker. Instead of giving it to him when he was right next to me, I ran and gave it to the office just to bother him. This makes me a good citizen. Now my parents are showing it to everyone who knows me just to piss me off. I guess that's karma!

My latest achievment was passing an exam @ my university with 91% biggrin pretty chuffed with myself.
The next achievment was getting the job as a cameraman and cutter for a dancing show. The cool thing is, I travel all around austria and can stay in hotels free of charge biggrin PLUS, i get to meet some hot chicks AND i get paid for that...*muha*

And another achievement, which is actually quite the opposite of sollthar's achievement, is managing to finally break up with my (ex)girl-friend ...

"FREE AT LAST ! FREE AT LAST" biggrin

cheers,
d.

No, no, it definitely did. It is by sheer luck that Klut's hair allowed him to make such an award-winning film. Normally his hair would settle for watching monkeys having SEEEEEEXXXXXX.

I told a SAG member they don't receive free movies at the theater I work at. She then proceded to scream at me and I effectively passed the problem onto some one else.

Way to go me!

I also passed all my classes this semester. Its a good start in the right direction for me. This semester I need to do the same thing, but better. wink

My short film Barrage was recently played on IFC about 1/2 dozen times during November & December. It won IFC's "Media Lab" contest for the month of September. It was also featured on the SciFi Channel's web site as part of their "Exposure" short film contest. Barrage was my first effects-heavy short.

I also edited a feature-length indie film, Cubes, which has been making its way around film festivals this past year. We just received a distribution offer from Echelon Entertainment, so we're pretty excited to see where it goes. With any luck - Netflix and/or Blockbuster, and some cable / satellite movie channels.

What else.. well I just rescued a German Shepherd from a very, very bad situation - and she is now doing tremendously well after only 10 days. It is an amazing site to see her run, after being locked up in a cellar by herself for the past 3 months (without being let out). I've started writing a script for my next short film, loosely based on her story. Hopefully it will move some people and raise some awareness at the same time. smile

1.) Shooting and almost being done with my first feature (Fingerman). It's turning out to be my personal favorite project. I love that I could actually develop characters for once, and have the time to really make a world come alive in a film. Almost done with the editing and I'm probably going to need another few weeks for the sound design since we're like a 2 person band here, me and CX3.

Another thing I guess I'm proud of is starting my own business out here about a year and a half ago and being able to fully support myself with that today, working whenever I want and choosing who I work for selectively...all while only be 22 years old at the same time.

The next thing I'm looking forward to is putting together a lecture tour at colleges across the US (and Britain if possible) to teach other kids who are interested in filmmaking how to set their lives up to make it easier for that to happen both while in college and once graduating. There's a lot of crap I have learned on my journey so far that no one ever told me. I want to share a lot of it with others and get paid for it too! smile

EDIT: Also one time I got hired to hang out with Wayne Brady and Flex Alexander at Disneyland for a whole day, shooting thier home video...it was tons of fun.

EDIT: Also, I just found out that this feature length anthology DVD of short horror films that I edited and did effects for is going to be distributed as well. I'm not in charge so I don't know the details, but it looks like it could wind up in blockbuster and best buy, etc...
