Welllllllllllllll, the submissions for first season just ended, so I was wondering who here actually made it in. I entered jut barely on time, but there have been "encoding issues" with my upload, even though it fits the recommended requirements.

Anyhow, I thought if you entered, or even if you didn't, but still had a movie ready for it, that you should post it here; rather than everyone having a thread.

Here's mine. Cover, recut.

I was going to submit something I had, but decided otherwise. What I have right now for the current film can't show much for the story or anything. I have a question though. Is there going to be a season 2 of On The Lot? Will there just be one season? Or will ratings determine it? Had I known about this sooner I would have prepped for it with all my time, so if there was an oppurtunity of a season 2 I'd like to be on the watch for it.

The website says, "submissions are over for this season", so I'd assume that there is going to be at least one other season.

I decided to wait until next season. There are about 25 effects shots I want to re-work (using Vlab!) plus, my intro video.. well.. stunk.

No rush. Let 'em "work out the bugs" this year!

I realized that the movies had to be 5 minutes or less, and the one I wanted to submit is 9, and I will not make sacrifices.

I like that excuse. "I'm too arrogant to make something submittable." It's nice and classy. wink

I got mine in on time, but I couldn't get the music cleared so it's not on the site.

Personally I think this was the best season to enter. No one (besides the people here on fxhome wink ) that I have talked to has heard of the series. I think that if it does well there will be a lot more interest in submitting films in feauture seasons, therefore making it harder to get on.

I'm intrigued by the way Aculags comments have been perceived as arrogance and not artistic integrity and/or modesty.

For the record, Atom, since you wanted to be told: your post is a good example of something which you ought to have thought about before posting.

I could be guessing here, but I'm pretty sure he was joking. Hence the smiley.

Though I dunno how the comments exhibit modesty, or even artistic integrity. Satirical, sarcastic humor, yes, Aculag is chock full of that; but modesty I've yet to see, at least clearly.

I was just saying that I'm not willing to change the length of the piece just to be able to submit it to some contest.

I didn't write it for the contest, and I'm not willing to cut 4 minutes out of it just so I can enter it. That's where the artistic integrity part comes in.

I can see how that would come across as being arrogant, as if I think my movie is too good to be cut down to 5 minutes. But I think it takes 9 minutes to tell the story. I wrote it that way, and it was filmed that way. It seriously wouldn't make any sense if it was shorter.

But I guess we'll just have to see! Maybe it already doesn't make sense!

Edit: FAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRTTT! unsure

That's fine. I'm was just throwing the same speech you gave me time and time again at you. "It wouldn't make sense" and "it's not an excuse" are both fair argument I have upheld against you, so I would hope you see the error in attacking them. It is a matter of artistic integrity, as it's alway (for the most part) been with me and you.

And I was only joking, Xcession. Even Aculag brought his classic humor back into it.

A satire is ridiculing, scorning, and exposing problems in society in an effort to change them, witty comments are not satirical unless they are aimed at a certain problem of a bigger picture, not an individual.

Ask your English teacher at your school.

So anyway... I was gonna submit a movie, but decided against it, after watching several videos.

I'll do it next season, if there is one.

Idk about all of that, man. I think it's going to be extremely tough to make it on, and I think the hiring producers of the show are looking for something very special in the contestants they pick, I just don't know what. Luckily, the Adams bros have a gimmick, they are twins. However, the submission video intro may hurt them because they may have room for only one of them, and because of the trouble of choosing which one, they may just throw it out all together.

Idk though, I really wish the best of luck to everyone who submitted it, especially the Adams bros

Ask your English teacher at your school.
Actually, though satire is often and most conveniently used in regard to a bigger problem in society (which follows literary theory of structuralism, and, to an extent, archetypal theory), it is not solely constrained as such.

Witty comments aimed at a particular recurring problem, annoyance or general folly of any given human being is satire. Thus, as long as a satire generally mocks, scorns, or ridicules- no matter what degree of subtlety employed- a recurring, knowingly negative trait of an individual, it can be considered effective.

Satire is also not limited to trying to better or resolve the problem it addresses; in fact, many famous, though somewhat entirely counter-productive satires only serve the purpose of deconstruction, with little to no benefit regarding the addressed issue. A good example of this is Will Ferrel's separate, independent fake PSA's mocking Bush: the irony and scorn with which he conveys his comedy is satirical, and it opposes widely-known, generally opposed faults of the President; yet it does little in the way of solving those faults, or even attempting to solve them.

I'm not at all trying to sound rude or condescend you here by any means, Ben, but I needn't ask my English teacher what I already know. Hell, I probably know better than he does.

I dont know about all these definitions being thrown around. I graduated with a film production degree.. not an English one.. so hopefully I won't be shunned from this topic..

BTW I submitted the Divinity trailer as well. Who knows, I might have a shot.. not too many people were doing the type of film that I'm working on. Not gettin my hopes up or anything.

.. but it'd be sweet ha

Best of luck to all.. It'd be really cool even if they show some of the submissions they got in the first episode or two and we noticed a few from fxhome filmmakers. Its just the 1st step at world dominance, how I see it.

He he...well now come to think of it I actually heard about it from my brother who isn't here on FXhome either. I just meant that, for the most part, people don't know what it is. And I'm sure that if you walked up to the same people and asked them if they knew what something successful like American Idol was they would know...

You really think they will already have the finalist ready? If so that’s cool, but I’m just thinking there are millions of movies to watch, I think it will take a lot longer then the begging of this month to find the finalists, but hey that’s just me.

I submitted one also, but I doubt I stand a chance, but hey what could I loose? Good luck to you all.

P.S. : think Spielberg will take age into consideration. I mean some of us her on FXhome who submitted are 20 and under, and from what I have seen the majority of the people on "on the lot" are from 25 to 40. just wondering

It says on the site that preliminary judging will be done at the end of February. It's March, so I assume some judging for a pool of candidates has been done by now.

No word yet, though.

i would have to say i agree atom, their site is hard to navigate, i like the way FXhome does it better, you know how you can find the top rated movies easily so you know what you are going against.

and Gnome326, i already lost my dignity after my star wars movie, so i still don't have anything to loose. smile

But at least one FXhomer has to get on the show. Just so they can through out a "FXhome rocks" or "Ya FXlabs/CompositeLabs rules, you should get it" every now and then. We should definitely get force points for that
