very nice! looks like you put some serious work into creating what will hopefully be an amazing film. The only thing i would suggest is adding a bit more about the plot to the next trailer. There was lots of action but little about what the mission was all about. IMO it seemed almost too much like an effects reel that you might submit to a hiring company (though the effects were top notch). Other than that, great work!

JohnCarter,

Recon 2020 is my inspiration for joining the FXHome community. This is definately going to blow the socks of the IMDB critics! Look forward to adding it to my collection.

You don't know the half of it! wink

Yeah, it's been a VERY labor intensive project, especially in postproduction. I hope the film will be worth it in the end. But you never really know until its done.

It is a valid argument but in this case, it is a personal choice. I grew up with trailers that teased. Gave you little, just a taste of everything, unlike the trailers of today where they tell you the whole story, short of the actual ending, and I hate those. So that's a personal choice on my behalf. This trailer is to rekindle interest in the film, a few months before its England premiere, so in a way it is kind of a halfway teaser/trailer which will be followed by a more proper, elaborate story trailer a few weeks before the film premiere.

Ah! The infamous IMDB critics... lol. The original RECON was made with very little means and because of circumstances a bit too long to describe in a post, it had a genesis that is not "traditional". It was originated as a 30 minutes demo reel which we were asked to turn into a feature and it caused a lot of different issues in terms of pacing, FX, story, etc. It was also made with a ridiculous amount of money in comparaison to "normal" releases, which it appears we are being judged against - if I remember correctly, one eloquent IMDB critic uses MI:3 as a yard stick to compare RECON against... Makes total sense to me.

Thing is, the film is either loved with passion or hated with equal passion - which is pretty typical of all of my films so far. IMDB in my limited experience, and since it is basically unmoderated for the most part, tends to attract very negative people who vent to extents that have little to do with the reality at hand, ie they lost 90 minutes of their time and 3$, if they hated it... lol. On other boards, you'll find glowing reviews and on others, more moderate ones... You can never please everybody. The key thing is: the film reached it's target audience, made enough money to justify shooting a sequel, which already presold worldwide, making it possible to shoot 2 more sequels this summer.

If you actually read the external reviews on IMDB itself, from professional reviewers, not joe couch potato with a hard on against indie films, you get a much more accurate, grounded perspective on the film. Most are a very fair assessment of what the movie is, warts and all.

Another superb trailer from JC!

Composition-wise, I don't really subscribe to any set of 'rules' about what a trailer should contain. All i know is that this was a kick-ass double volley of blood-red action, thrown right into my eyes.

I normally go out my way to try and find faults; its always worth urging people to improve after all, except in this case it seems a bit pointless.

The only faults which i think are worth mentioning are:
a) "F*CKING AYE": delivered thoroughly unconvincingly, as if by a child whos just learnt how to upset his parents.
b) The girl going RAAAAAAAAAAR towards the end, followed by an uncomfortably long silence before the cut: Seeing her close her mouth, post-scream, is terribly anti-climactic, as it becomes clear in the redundant frames afterwards, that her screaming was directed at nothing in particular razz

When i first watched this, i was tempted to post something about the Farscape-like CG, but it occured to me that the slightly curious CG is what gives Recon its character. It somehow just wouldn't be the same if the effects were ILM-quality. Its good to see so much CG actually. Forum-goers here are known to occasionally harp-on about CG vs Story, but theres obviously a dividing point where CG suddenly becomes well-integrated enough to really help a story and from this trailer, it would appear (at least) to be a nice mixture.

Looks pretty cool man. I liked the choice of music. Cool visuals, as always. Awesome special effects (for the most part). Really liked the line at the end, that was the highlight of the trailer for me. I liked how I actually got a decent idea about what the film is about. It seems too often that indie filmmaker trailers leave me with no idea about what the movie is going to be about. This really wasn't the case here.

A few of the effects, however, looked a little too ameature for the high production value that you obviously have. This really dampered the whole effect on the trailer for me. I felt like it lacked sound effects as well. I'd loved to have heard some of the explosions and gunfire mixed over the music.

Good job! 5/5.

Pretty nice CG though the girl screaming near the end was kind of creepy. kind of moved slow.

I would have to agree with Excessions two criticisms, especially his first regarding the "FUCKING A!!!!"

It is completely unnecessary and horribly delievered. I do see where you are coming from with the "same badass attitude" aspect of the film, but this did not get that point across.

I admire you for the time you put into this, even though I was not a big fan of the trailer.

Nice trailer, however it really dragged on a bit at the beggining, there is NO NEED to introduce characters in a trailer especialy when there are alot of them.

It seemed to turn into a bit of an effects show reel, not showing any hint of storyline, HOWEVER i can see the level of effort put in so im sure its coverd.

I look forward to seeing it.

(p.s. Was that a Beholder peeking around the courner? If so, why?)

3/5

For me, and I'll go into detail later, this trailer was really rather plain, generic, and almost random- and while some of the shots looked spectacular, others made me think "WTF?" (which is a good and bad thing.)

Nice! 5 Star. or 4.5

I got interested!

Some week points:
- the chip in the hand
- the music is some how ..errg.. no bass in it or something.

Is it used only FXHome for fire, explosives?

Well put smile

Besides the bit of course language and the screaming bit, it was well presented and gave me a smile smile The sequel to RECON 2020 is a big hit well done! I can't imagine the work you put, well this gives me an example of how hard it is to make a spectacular movie. biggrin

Looks awesome. I never talked to you about Recon 1, which I enjoyed. It felt drawn out, but it was still entertaining and I imagine this one will be better. I saw this one your site the day it came out because I was directed to the Myspace page through FXH's Myspace. So I feel cool having saw it there before here. wink

Anyways, it looks awesome, I LOVE the setting this time around. For some reason, I never like your text in the trailers and stuff. It looks kind of cool, but there is just something about it that makes it look weird. That's my only criticism, the trailer was cool with some great music.

Wow, very, very nice effects!

It looks like a terrific movie!

Very nice music.

However, since it's a trailer, you could've shown us a bit more what is the story. But appart from that, great job!

WOW! The quality is amazing, effects are great and it has a realistic feel to it. How did you shoot the arctic scenes anyway? or was it green screen. I can also say that all the charecters in the begining confused me...i thought the costumes were great, but the wierd 7 eyes alien wasn't to realistic.

But 5/5 from me because it looks like something worth going to see...though i didn't understand why they were going to the planet anyway.

I wanna know how you got all the nice costume stuff lol. Very good trailer, it generates interest in the film and does not give away anything. A little slow perhaps but still very effective. btw that lieutenant at the end was one ugly mofo.

I'm definitely interested in seeing this whole movie.
