looks like it would take some doing, but it looks manageable. Just tell me everything you know about the thing. How is it entered? How fast do the sparks move? Do the sparks ever hit anything? Are there displacement waves around the portal? What is the speed of the entire thing? Is that a ball in the center, or a hole. (Holes are easier) What does each part do? (e.g. the ball in the center spins like a globe and the sparks fly straight out) looking at the picture that's what it looks like it does. Just describe it, sparing no detail, and I'll give it a shot.

Ok, its a hole in the center, all of it moves in a circle kind of slowish but not too slow to notice. None of it sparks out it stays close together and there could be displacement wave, it just kind of spirals out and when closing just sucks in.

Thanks

yeah, sorry. I was on vacation for a while. I'll get right on it! It will probably take me 3-5 days, so look for it then. The "sucking in part" i'll do as best as I can, but the particle engine can't run in reverse. I'll make the particles flash intensly as a the displacement waves coming out of it suddenly reverse and suck in. There will be a lensflare (with a hole in it) that will blink and vanish. It'll look cool! One thing though, how big does this get? Does it go human-size and then shrink? Does it start small and go to big, then "suck in" and vanish? Or does it stay small, then suck in and vanish?

Okay, I've got a basic version going, but I'm going to make it better before I submit it. I looked for primeval pictures and found one without a hole in it, so if you don't want the hole you can delete the mask. I can see how the particles move now though. The problem I'm running into is that the particles are shard-like, not ball-like. Unless you want to make a texture in photoshop and substitute it, I think you're going to have to settle for spherical sparks. It's coming pretty good though. I haven't seen the movie, but I think you'll like the end product even if it's not exactly like the movie.

Yeah, I'm almost done. I'm just fine-tuning the motion and overall smoothness of the effect. It's looking great. The hole in the picture looks hexagonal, so if you want a rounder hole just up the point smoothing on the mask. You'll also need to copy and paste the mask from the particle effect (either one) onto the background layer and put a clip of wherever the portal leads to in the hole.
