Since monitor #2 is glass, you can barely get a glimpse of my current project due for a June 07 release. Since this is pretty much a bragging thread, the pic was taken with a Canon EOS 350D with 17-40 F/4.0L lens... cool And my Camcorder connects to my TV (8 feet behind my chair and slightly to the right) so I can watch the footage on a real screen for preview. The TV area is also where me and my crew play cards, eat food, watch movies, play Smash Bros., etc. I love this room.

You guys are more offended by the quilt than his hanging painting of a cape cod country store? Then again, if that doesn't scream teenage filmmaker, I don't know what does.

Aw, man! Keep this thread alive! I don't know when, but my "setup" should arrive in a few days. I'm getting a new computer in a few days. My Dell was... hrm... disappointing as a workstation notebook... so I sold it and ordered up something that, I expect, should do better.

That was my set up last week in my temporarily rented room. Photo taken for a report on Final Cut Pro I'm constructing. Those yellow notes are the logging and in/out points. Five sheets of them. urghhh!

Sound editing is then done in a studio though, so no speakers really.

Behringer UB1002 mixer

The only real editing I do now is of the music variety (recording and editing etc) so I guess that counts. Notice the *ahem* obscene level of detail and how almost all of you will have no interest in the content of this pic:

I got mine about a year ago and just started using them this week. Never found a good use for them, as the audio quality is only so-so. Hate, no. Loathe? Perhaps.

At least they look pretty under my projected-image TV. (Dell DLP Movie Projector)

Sollthar wrote:

You can have mine if you pay shipping. I can never get comfortable in it, and it's too low to do any kind of work sitting in. But, like everything else in my room, despite function, it's pretty.

I hate my chair. Whoever made it decided that adequate cushioning was needed for the side of my ass rather than the brunt of it -- so there's perhaps one centimeter between the top of the fabric and the cold, heartless plastic that is the bottom of my chair.

I am definitely buying a new chair this August.

Right now, it's just running as a Canvas preview through FCE. The chain is:

iMac > Camera (via firewire) > TV (via AV cable)

Pretty soon though, I'm going to primarily use it as an extension display, using a MiniDVI > VGA Adapter.

IT'S HERE.

I was quite impressed with the arrival of this computer, it came in a nice black box with a handle, and it bore a white Alienware logo on it. The entire thing was really well done, I received a user manual that was in a leather binder, like a car manual. That's where all my OS, drivers, and application CD's were, which made it nice as I didn't need to find a place to put them.

The laptop itself is pretty well-designed. My touchpad is large, and it has a touchpad deactivation key right on it, which is FANTASTIC for typing reports or playing games. There are four... um... useless buttons on it, each for opening the programs corresponding with the icons next to the buttons. These icons are a little musical note with a strip of film (for a media player), an "i" in a circle (for internet), an envelope (for e-mail programs) and uh... a fan. I have no idea what the last one is for. I've pushed it many times. It doesn't do anything. It'd have been nice if they put media control keys where those buttons were... but I don't really use those.

It has a volume control knob on the side, which is AWESOME. I use it constantly. It also has the four included USB ports EVENLY SPACED (novel concept!).

It's run Vista outstandingly, no glitches or anything. I've been very pleased, my ATI card has worked FANTASTICALLY, and Windows Vista Ultimate has done very, VERY well. Alright, specs:

-2.16 GHz Core 2 Duo
-2 GB DDR2-667 SDRAM
-300 GB (160 GB x 2) 5400 RPM HDD's in RAID 0
-ATI Mobility Radeon X1900, PCIe, 256 MB
-8x DVD+/-R/RW

hey nice laptop. i think the fan button is for when the computer is working to hard and it over heats, you push the fan button and it helps to cool it down so your computer dosn't crash. i have 7 fans in my computer that are running constanly. but yours is unique you can choose when you want it to start. if that fan is what im thinking of.

Aren't Alienware laptops notorious for being insanely expensive and not really worth it? Maybe I'm living in the past.

Also, Kyal, I don't understand the point of your 3D desktop. What's the deal with that?

Alienware, at least I thought, have become notoriously expensive because they're famously the best. (At least as far as editing and gaming on notebooks go)

The 3D desktop, that's Linux for you. All kinds of pointless.

Point? Uh, well.. it looks cool. And it's pretty useful when you have too many windows on one desktop. You just flip the cube and voila! a whole other clean desktop!

$3,700. I don't regret a penny of it. smile

I dunno. I mean, yes, it was expensive, but... well, a Dell XPS M1710 has one 7950 GTX and ONE hard drive, and it's heavier -- and it'd cost you around $3,400 with the same options that I opted for. I was happy to pay another $300 for a second hard drive, a numpad, and to have an ATI card over an Nvidia one. Nvidia's Vista drivers are abhorrent, ATI's are gleamingly wonderful. That's right, "gleamingly."

It's a notebook with an ATI card (AVIVO + image quality), two hard drives (in RAID 0), 2 GB of RAM and a Core 2. It came with damn near no stupid bloatware, just drivers, stellar design, and Windows Vista Ultimate. I'm damn happy with it. smile

Still on Windows XP (for the moment):

Tempura Theme
Tango Icons

It's all in the shell too so no extra resources used.

I've gotta give credit to Pooky for making me a customization freak. It's like a sickness. I even went to an Apple store and asked if it's possible to change the dock background.

Edit: Pooky, your theme doesn't seem to exist anymore. surprised

Yeah sorry, I misspelled it at first.

The dock background is changeable... but it already looks good. razz

Also, I'd be using WindowFX for window shadows if it didn't make iTunes Coverflow unusable.

Updated setup pics! The flash makes em' look a little weird, but you get the gist of it:

Wide view of desk:

20" iMac

Color correction, lava lamp, and sex appeal products.

12" Powerbook (best laptop ever made)

Shameless thread resurrection!

My setup has changed around quite a bit, so here's an updated pic:

All wires must remain hidden . . . or else wink

Soon to be one of these two rigs:

Mac Pro 2 x 2.66 GHz, 5GB RAM, 1TB internal storage, dual 23" ACD
or
MacBook Pro Santa Rosa 2.4 GHz, 4GB RAM, 160GB internal storage, 1TB external storage, 30" ACD

Well, I don't have a pick, but imagine an antique letter writing desk, with a small sony laptop, and wires for the computer, fan, lamp, camera, mic, headphones, cellphone charger, surge protector, and radio strewed across it. Ya, that is what my setup looks like.

Edit: Oh, and it is also housed in a small walk in closet.

NickD, it's beyond me why you'd buy a suped-up Mac Pro along with a MacBook Pro without upgrading the camera you have first.

Unless, of course, those computers aren't devoted to video, but to other things. But I thought you wanted to do videography when you graduated?

Either way, I suggest investing in a camera before buying another multi-thousand dollar computer.

Rockfilmers, way to go with Vegas! w00t w00t!

Here's my digital desktop, when I find my phone I'll take pictures of my new actual one.

I'm using custom icons (some I made myself, some I just Photoshopped a bit to match my tastes, some are for Macs that I hijacked and used as my own) for My Computer, all the "My" folders, and my desktop icons; and I'm currently running the MS theme that my Zune software so kindly included. Zune-theme all the way!

I've got one too (although I hardly use it)

My pc isn't that great, need upgrading.

AMD Athlon XP 2500+ (1.86 gHz)
Nvidia Geforce FX5200
500 GB External HDD
19" CRT screen

Maybe I'll put some pictures up later.

I've been saving up for a nice Intuos 6x12 for a while, but I can never sustain the right amount of money to purchase it.

Too many other expenses in the way, you know.
