The FXhome team recently had the honour of attending the NightCast world premiere in Zürich, Switzerland. After meeting several FXhomers for the first time, we were treated to the first public screening of Marco ‘Sollthar’ von Moos’ latest movie.

The Video Diaries

A full video diary was shot by the FXhome team, which we can now present to you in special News-O-Vision. Simply click the image below to discover our amusing adventures in NightCast Land and see FXhomers as you’ve never seen them before!

Video duration: 12 minutes

NightCast on DVD

Unfortunately most of you didn’t get the chance to attend the premiere – but you can still watch the movie in all its glory, not to mention over five hours of amazing bonus material, on the limited edition, 2-disc DVD!

If you want to support Sollthar and his team, head straight over to the NightCast online store to order the DVD – and be quick, as stocks are extremely limited!

SOLD OUT!

And bought!
Could it be I was one of the first? haha

The paypal first page is in... uh... some different language... it'd be really messed up for someone who had not used paypal before I think?

Looking forward to it!
(tad more expensive than I was expecting - nearly $40 CND, but all good by me!)
I'll let you know how long it takes to ship to me (Toronto, Canada)

Well, I want to see Nightcast, and I would like to get a DVD, but I think they're far too pricey. Maybe once people start getting theirs, and say it's the best DVD ever, I'll fork over the cash. smile

Perhaps it's just me, but 31.90 for a DVD is wicked expensive. sad

It should be fine - we watched it earlier without any problems. Maybe your connection went screwy?

And again, no matter what I do the fxhome quicktime doesn't work sad
It's standard H264 quicktime, same as all the official Apple trailers. Make sure you've got the latest version of Quicktime installed.

Its a totally standard QuickTime H.264 b4uask30male - just like all the big film trailers you get these days. If you have QuickTime 7 installed and your system is working it should be just fine.

There won't be a DivX version as the QuickTime H.264 version is just as well compressed and far more compatible with Windows and Macintosh computers.

The DVD seems like a great deal to me! It might appear expensive compared to the cheapest single-dvd online offers from massive companies like Play.com but it seems like a fine price for a multi-dvd special edition of an indie film.

* schwar looks forward to his DVD in the post *

I just wanted to say a big thanx to Marco and all the Nightcast crew for making the trip so special. It was also great to meet up with some of the other FXhomers whom I'd not met before. Zurich was cool, I'd definitely visit there again!

I tried to post this along with my OMFG message from sunday. We clustered around a webcam kiosk we found in the Zurich departure lounge on the way back, but the crappy software at zurich airport prevented me attaching it to a forum post.

Great work fxhome guys loved the feel of the video you done, also what i saw of redhawks.

It said 2 hours later after the film started? I thought it was planned as a feature but ran into trouble and was made as a 30 min film.

Is it 2 hours?

Yep, it's a full-length feature film, though I'm not sure of the exact running time, plus we had 10-15 minutes of amusing bloopers at the end, not to mention Sollthar's excellent speech. It was around 2 hours, give or take.

I'm sure all the trials and tribulations of the movie's production are detailed in the making of material. smile

All the quicktime videos worked no problems here (win xp).
I agree with aculag.. 31.99 us is quite a bit for a dvd. I can get 4 disc lotr for less I think? lol

But then again those aren't independent films. I'm more than happy to pay that for this. (i hope that view doesn't change when I get it.. haha)
Hey Sollthar sign my copy will ya? wink

Interesting, DVDs in the US and Canada must be a lot cheaper than in Europe. $31 equates to about UK£15, which is fairly average for a DVD here. Our DVDs (on release) tend to go from about £12.99 for a budget, single disc release to about £24.99 for a 2-disc special edition.

Bear in mind that's been available for several years now, though. Was that price on its initial release? It's be better to compare a recently released special edition DVD.

Either way, I think it's fairly established (much to the annoyance of us Europeans) that DVDs and music CDs are much cheaper over the other side of the pond. Most annoying, especially now that markets have gone so international with the ease of the Internet.

I still reckon the NightCast DVD is a pretty good deal though. wink

I'm on my break at work right now, and I hate how all the really exciting stuff happens here when I'm not at home. I can't wait to watch the video diary.

THE NIGHTCAST DVD IS ALREADY OUT?????! I remember hearing 2008 as a potential release date sometime ago. How can any self respecting human being even question whether or not to purchase this dvd? I'm definetly going to buy it, and maybe finally pick up the other two NCC classics.

It truly is a great day to be alive. Crap, I have to go back to my toll booth.

Hehe, brilliant news videos! It's been a fantastic premiere and many thanks goes to everyone from fxhome who has come over to share it with us! It was fantastic having you there!

Thanks to everyone who has ordered so far! I know the limited DVD set isn't cheap, this is due to the following reasons:

- It's swiss reproduction costs, costing us over 5$ per Set. 29,90 is the average price of a big commercial DVD over here. Sure you can get cheaper ones, but of course only for those that have sold loads and have been around for long.

- We have to pay 2 $ transaction fee to Paypal and over 5$ of shipping due to it being a 2 disc version and slightly too heavy to go for the 3 $ pricetag. sad

You can always wait for the commercial DVD to come out, which will be cheaper I expect, but will have a lot less bonus material on it. And of course won't be out for another year or so afaik.

And yes, the films running time is 1 hour and 42 minutes. The 2 disc set contains more then 5 hours of bonus material covering all aspects of the films making. Think of it as an animated filmmaking guide. smile

I'd like to take issue a little with the whole cost thing of the Nightcast DVD.

I appreciate Sollthar explaining why the cost is the way it is, but the bottom line is value here. I know in this world we want to get the most for our money (and really, with 5 hours of bonus material, you get that), but the perspective that should be taken is that ANY independant has the right to charge what THEY feel they want to recuperate any cost (or not) they want.

What I mean in value is not just material, but as fxhomers, my conviction is supporting the artist that took X amount of YEARS of his or her life to make a film in their spare time. It's a passion that most of us won't be able to accomplish for whatever reason.

Value also comes into play in supporting Sollthar and his crew with the means of getting him some capital to help fund other films. What better way to support him by giving him a little more money (and not much mind you) than you would for a Hollywood film, and he'll be able to put out more films that we will not only enjoy, but we can make the claim that "I supported him from the beginning."

And let's not forget the COUNTLESS posts and hours that people like Sollthar has contributed to OUR films with his filmaking guide and the like (as well as the chatroom) so we can learn from experience.

C'mon people, we can easily spend $30 to $60 for a videogame but we cry when what is obviously a great film with insight in the bonus footage to help us make our stuff, comes our way.

I told Sollthar in the chat that I would gladly have paid $40 without even having a second thought. So please, if you want it, buy it, if not, please stop the price complaint. If you know what it takes to produce something like this, trust me, you would have a different perspective.

Then again, the fact that its 31 USD (I just bought a 2 disc Casino Royale DVD for only 19.99) is the only thing stopping me from buying it.

Thanks for the support Garrison.
Seriously though, let's not argue. I completely understand.

If you want it now, get it. If you don't, don't get it. It's very simple. smile

Besides, there are only about 40 of those left as of yet. After that, it's negotiation-time with all the distributors who'll surely do a cheaper commercial DVD - which we can't afford. But with less of the bonus stuff.

Casino Royale and Lord of the Rings or any other big name have massive stock and therefore a fraction of the cost to cover compared to a small indie. They could throw the DVD at you for 3$ and still make a profit. That's the business world for you. smile

That video Diary was highly entertaining, not the least of which because:

1. Xcession sounds alot like Daniel Craig
2. Sollthar reminds me of Borat occasionally when he's excited.

I couldn't help but slightly wish Atom and Ben could have went, just to see if the dinner table would have been turned entirely into an argument...

Garrison: what you say is all very well but remember not everyone has such a large disposible income. And what those in the US who are complaining have to remember is that over here we have to pay more for dvds all the time and not just this one. Personally I think that the price is very reasonable if the film is as good as people are saying and if it contains so many useful tips on how to go about making films yourself. Casino Royal 2 disc is £14.99 here compared to £16 for Nightcast.

Grats Sollthar on Nightcast and to Tarn? for the very amusing video diary.

Yeah, I completely understand Evman. This Edition is really aimed at the people who wish to support us AND see the film earlier then the commercial release.

2. Sollthar reminds me of Borat occasionally when he's excited.
Heh brilliant. i've never heard that one before. Jaggsehmash.

would you say that the new scene is better than the train one sollthar???
I'd say it fits the rest of the movie far better, yeah. I'm happy with the decision.

Oh and the shipping is included. There's no additional costs. And yes, shipping to the US is 7 $, believe it or not. So the DVD is actually only about 24,90, also excluded the 2$ fee we're at 22,90.

Haha, you know me too well.

Wish I could've gone, but the time and money I had at my disposal deemed the premiere as an unnecessary cost and I couldn't go. Looks like it was all great fun. Who knows what would've happened if I or my bro had gone, haha.

About the DVD cost: I think it is a bit much, but considering the movie is feature length and slightly lower priced shorts like P1 are only a third of the length, I can understand the price. This may have to be my first DVD to buy from FXhome. (I skipped out on P1 and the TS collection)

All-in-all, the premiere looks awesome and I can't wait to get the DVD!

At first, I had sticker shock. Then, assuming the DVD is $20 and factoring in the included international shipping, it's not too much.

Maybe, you should advertise the DVD as $24.90 with $7 shipping? biggrin I dunno, maybe people would feel better about it that way.

Anyway, I'm in for a couple weeks of frantically checking my mailbox each day for the next month!

(Still waiting for the re-release of the Project One DVD. I missed out on that the first time, and I'm still kicking myself cry )

Thank you everyone who has ordered a DVD so far!

They will ship tomorrow, I completely forgot todays a celebration day and all post offices are closed. redface

Good idea! I just did that. Actually the DVD is 22,90 + 2 credit card fee + 7 shipping costs (which I still don't understand at all, why it can be that expensive to shop an effin DVD!)

I expect the DVD to take about 7 to 12 days to ship overseas. That's about what it took for some of the screeners.

Let me add my congrats to all.

Thanks to those who went to the trouble of filming and editing all this for those of us who couldn't make it. That was really entertaining.

Is there any way to get ahold of some of the musical score? It sounds really cool, and would go nicely next to my Star Wars and LotR soundtracks on my iPod. biggrin

Thanks so much everyone for the support. It means a lot to all of us from ncc.

I'm trying to talk Robin into releasing the score. It's awesome I can tell you! smile

The DVD is with english subtitles, yeah. Thanks for all the orders so far too. We only got a handful left. So I guess the shop will be closed tomorrow or the day after.

Maybe the soundtrack or a preview of the soundtrack on an extra CD for the Limited Edition DVD buyers?

(Or just for me? It is my birthday today. The Nightcast DVD was a present to myself! biggrin )

Yes, it means the packages probably not leave here before start of next week.

So you need about 3 days more patience.

I'll be leaving myself now until monday. I'll make sure they leave asap!

I can attest to Nightcast's awesome musical score. I think we've all been impressed with Robin's work in the past, but he's really taken things to a new level here.

Being able to use some of his work for the video diary was a great privilege and really, really exciting. I can't wait to buy a score CD, so I hope he hurries up and produces one! It really is of astoundingly high quality and really helps to push the film itself onto a new level, too.

Congratulations for the big effort. No matter what they say $32 is no big cost considering a small no budget film makers trying their best to produce a good movie. I already ordered the movie and am eagerly waiting for the post. From what I saw and read it must be a winner for all at NightCast ring.
One problem is I cannot view Redhawk' movie it is jamming all the time. I have QuickTime 7 player.. Any luck??

Got mine today, it was brilliant, the acting was great, effects were spot on, Cherography was good but sometimes differed in places. The camera was great as well. Story was good and i loved it, i will post a more in depth comment after everyone has seen it so i don't spoil it.

Received mine today and have just finished watching it. It's very well made, and entertaining. A few more hand-to-hand combat fight scenes wouldn't have gone amiss, but overall it was very good.

any seeing as most people would have got it and watched it I'll post my in depth comment.

!!WARNING!! if you have not yet seen nightcast i would restrain yourself from reading this. unless you want to know some bits

The whole film was great start to finish, i found it slow in parts of it but the flow went nicely and i liked the character history and stuff.
The start was intresting to watch with the cool tranistions and story plot being explained. The first scenes were good with the break in and seeing how Harry Brighton was burned and taken away by the military. The funeral was good but the wife didn't really show no sadness. I think the doctor when he saw the military could have been worked on as he didn't seem you know "oh my god!".

The make up on Nightcast's face was brilliant, great work Michelle!. The acting through the "seeing his burnt face" scene to the "rebels VS military" scene had good acting but the gun fight seemed a bit slow and i think the camera work or maybe even the acting could have been improved to give it a more intense feel.
I loved your character Jack and his cocky attitude and stuff, just like your reality self in the chat smile, i liked how we were introduced to his father and them working together was shown a bit.

Nightcast showed some great acting skills in some parts but i laughed sometimes at the way he was walking, it was like he couldn't see where he was going so he had to look directly at the floor biggrin. but the parts with the fighting was great a bit slow but then i understand he has been burnt and his muscles may be a bit stiff or maybe the serum makes him slower to create more damage and power in the attack. Loved the reactions between characters and how they responded quite well to things.

The ending was great, you died Sollthar! and i'm wondering maybe a second one may come out in maybe four or five years wink.

But the whole film was great, great proformance, great camera movement, great acting, great effects and great everything really. Good job clap clap clap clap clap clap

Hope to see more films this good from you

Received my copy yesterday and my friends.... they did a great job, in all ways. Being done with a low budget and the determination of these youths is amazing. I could never ever reach their ability and determination to fulfill their dream.
Very good indeed and what about the extra DVD showing each and every individual day of filming and most important and educational the post production. You amazed me giving you 100% points.
You are all hard working pals and especially Robin Hoffman's music. I wish I could hold my hand on a copy, any luck?

I strongly suggest to al FXhomers to purchase this move as to be part of it too, with our little contribution.
Well done Marco and all at NCC.
Looking forward to your next movie.

We ran out of stock for the limited edition and the shop link was taken offline.

Our largest, warmest thank you to everyone who ordered his/her copy and I hope you enjoy the film and all the bonus material on it!

I'll definately post again once the official DVD is out, which will be slightly cheaper I imagine - though the price is determined by the distributors, not by us.

So my DVD came in yesterday and I got a chance to watch it earlier this afternoon. It was brilliant and I enjoyed it immensely. Not much I can say against it besides it being a little slow at points but still that didn't bother me. I haven't had a chance to check out any of the bonus features yet but I will as soon as I can.

Not much else to say except congrats Sollthar and everyone else who was involved. You guys should be proud of what you've accomplished. Looking forward to your next project. biggrin
