If you're really stuck why not try some of the available presets already made by the members? Just click on the downloads tab at the top and browse through!

I would really recommend going through some print & video tutorials (available for free, here at this site), and reading over the documentation that came with your software.

The best explosions are gonna come from live action footage. There are some available in the Alamdv Plug-ins area here on the site, Sollthar has some very nice HD stuff for sale at extremely reasonable prices, and there are other places on the net you can get such footage. As a general rule, the real ones are going to produce better results than a CG explosion.
