Hi.

I am looking to add a 'ghost' type effect for one of the characters in my sci fi film. the character may have to appear on screen with the main character in conversation. I have two questions if anyone can help...

1. I wish to apply a preset to just the ghost character so that they appear different, more ethereal I suppose. How do I apply that to the character only? Do I shoot the actor against a green screen then key them in against a background I have shot? How would I add the main actor to the shot if say I wanted to do an over shoulder shot?

2. Can I shoot the actor then shoot just the background without moving the camera to get a ghost effect? (I have tried this by changing just the transparency of the actor) Looks okay but I would like to make the character look more fantastic. Any idea's on this?

Thanks alot in advance biggrin

For ghostly effects you will want to shoot against greenscreen, enabling you to make the character a bit transparent, or diffuced, or graded however, without extensive manual masking. For the OTS shot, you can either create a mask tht covers the shoulder in question, or you could film that character against greenscreen as well, and layer him over the top.
