I heard that Sonic the Hedgehog 2 on the Sega Megadrive is pretty rad.

Seriously though, I have no idea about *new* games, but I'm sure that there's plenty of fun to be had with some of the classics. Get yourself the latest version of Gens, a Sega Genesis/Megadrive emulator, find yourself some ROMs online, and play more retero games than you could shake a sticky stick at.

That version of Gens also comes with netplay, which is amazing!

Cheers,
Arktic.

Sonic 2 is my least favorite retro Sonic game (but it sill rocks compared to any 3d incarnations)

Play that

that or Chrono Trigger for SNES

or NiGHTS for SEGA Saturn

Play all of those games before you die

oh, for real suggestions. I suggest guitar hero 2. I picked it up and I do feel like a genuine rockstar, when in reality the only instrument I play is the cowbell.

Also for the 360, mlb2k7 is awesome if you like baseball.

For the 360 I'd recommend Gears of War and Rainbow Six:Las Vegas.

wow! am I the only pc gamer here? if you're going to be playing a pc then I'd recommend Half-life, Star Wars Dark Forces II : Jedi Knight (best star wars game ever made), Half-life 2, Freedom Fighters, and Counter Strike: Source. I rarely play my game cube or PS2 anymore.

Did you play Jedi Knight II : Jedi Outcast? Best Star Wars game ever in my opinion smile

Which games I recommend you play are based upon which systems you own though the end of this year is going to see some pretty awesome game releases on all consoles. To name just a few:

Half Life 2 : Episode II inclusive of Team Fortress and Portal, Left 4 Dead (Co-op Zombie Survival with 28 days later zombies anyone?), Assassins Creed, Mass Effect, Halo 3, Forza Motorsports, LittleBig Planet.

If I had to advise some classics to tide you over without taking the format into consideration I'd suggest God of War II for the PS2, Guitar Hero II for the X360 or PS2, Gears of War for the X360, Wii Sports for the Wii. Half Life II and Episode I and Company of Heroes. Also worth a half mention is that the Halo 3 Beta is currently running for Crackdown owners, If you have a live account it may interest you.

There are classics I've missed, though I've just more or less summarised the classics of today. Yesterday's classics are still well worth a look.

I've been playing the Dark Forces series since the first one. I think Outcast was better than Knight, but Knight had a better story. I play the newest one on Xboxlive Academy. It has the best lightsaber fighting of all three.

Never cared for Academy, the showy special moves and extra saber types they introduced ruined the structure of the Lightsaber fights and turned things into a spamming match which had little/no direction.

As for playing that kind of game on a console pad... Ew. smile The mix of 1st and 3rd person combat would make it rather awkward not to mention that the key to being an expert with the multiplayer was dependent on being able to use several force powers in very close timing, often even at the same time - something only possible on a keyboard. I used to pull throw kick grip til there was no tomorrow!

Just my input. smile

yes i have played and beaten Jedi Outcast and imo it was inferior to Dark Forces II. Dark Forces II has a special magic or something to it that makes it fun to play over and over again. I didnt like the story, villain, or redesign of kyle in Jedi Outcast. thats simply my opinion. can't beat the classics.

plus there was that horribly animated kyle and jan kissing part

You should play a real game like Thief II: The Metal Age or Nethack or maybe even Dues Ex (not 2).

Jedi outcast entirely blew my mind when I first played it.....(And I'm not even a star wars geek)

Deus Ex was Literally one of the greatest FPS's ever made In my opinion. First play through, It ranks up there.

Best two Games I've ever had the Joy of playing for the first time?

Metal Gear solid for the PS1, and Halflife 1+opposing force. These games simply astounded me with how far they pulled me into the game world.....

The only other game I can remotely say this about Was Metal Gear solid 2 and F.E.A.R and all the Grand theft auto's since 3.

(Halflife two just didn't Hook me. Perhaps because videogames appeal less to me now...)

Thief III is also brilliant, might I add. And yes, Deus Ex is one of those all time classics - though it's dated horribly. sad

Wii
Get Sonic 1 for the Virtual Console, SSX Blur, Twilight Princess, Super Paper Mario

360
Gears of War, Guitar Hero (I think #2 is the 360 one), Splinter Cell: Double Agent

there are tons of other great games for both systems (and never neglect the amazing virtual console)!!

I had fun playing Thief III but some parts were less then brilliant, however Overlook Mansion and The Cradle feature some of the best level design in any game, period.

Amen to that!

I'd recommend all of the Monkey Island games (except maybe the last one). and Guitar Hero II, if you haven't already played it.
