Someone already just asked this but i want to add to it. If i video taped a movie, could i mask out a person and put on my own movie? ( thats what he asked) what i want to ask is, how do i then after masking the object get it on to my movie? to i have to put one clip on top of the other, or what ? Can someone tell me?

For compositing jobs like this you'll need to use a proper compositing program, such as CompositeLab Pro. EffectsLab isn't designed for this kind of compositing.

Well...it is possible. you'd have to copy the mask you used (which would be inverted) and paste it onto your movie and an invert it.

I did something like you're talking about a few days ago but takes a LONG time to frame-by-frame outline the character from the original footage and have it look good. This is a 5 second test I was doing putting Luke Skywalker into a video of me (took around 30 hours for the final 5 sec clip).

The saber and blaster effects I did on Effects Lab but I used a compositing program (Discreet Combustion) to mask luke onto the other footage. I'm sure it would work easily on CompositeLab too.

However I have done this on Effects lab and gotten decent results. What you want to do is (the same as what jabooza said but a bit more detailed but maybe more confusing too lol)

1.Bring the background footage in and then layer the footage with the other character you want to inlude on top of it.

2.Disable the background footage and use a "freehand mask" on the upper layer to mask out the character.

3.Once that is done and you have the animated mask, copy and paste it onto the background layer and invert it.

Now you should be done and the top layer shouldn't be semi-transparent because the lower mask is removing the background footage where the upper mask is adding the foreground footage in. Good Luck and hope that makes sense smile

With a bit of grading on Luke so that he actually matched the background footage, that could have been rather cool! As it is, however, he's far too low contrast. Fun test though!

Cant raise it any higher. The original footage was FAR darker and I upped the contrast and brightness as much as I could but the original quality luke was filmed at was just too low quality for me to match his brightness/contrast to mine (Thats a major downside to using Original-Trilogy Characters).

Really the best option for that footage of luke would actually be to chromakey me, add a different (darker) backround, and then color-correct both me and luke and the background to come up with a good middle ground. smile
