Getting it to wave about should simply be a matter of seting the control points where you want them every few frames. After yu draw the lighting shape you want using a freehand neon object, click the animate tab in the Inspector. Now just jump ahead a few frames in your footage, and drag the control points of the neon object around on the canvas, to get a new lighting shape. Jump ahead a few more frames and do the same thing again. EffectsLab will take care of all the frames in between, and you will get an animated lighting bolt. The principles are actually the same as those involved in doing a standard lightsaber, except with a lightsaber your shape is already provided generally, by the prop being used during filming. But anyway, the Quickstart tutorial included with EffectsLab should help you out, as will this video tutorial.

DONT USE THE NEON LITE ENGINE. Use the electricity engine, in that use the finger lightning. Make it smaller, and make it so it doesn't quiver around as fast. In the middle, where Voldemorts and Harry's spells meet, you can use the lightsaber clash to great something very similar to the film. As for the sparks and plasma(it seems) to be erupting out of the blast, I don't know. But this is the best way, trust me. I have tried the Neon Lite Engine but it takes WAY too long. With the finger lightning it looks realistic, (but you will have to fix it up a little).

Good luck,

When you finish this, can you post a link? I'd like to see it.

This thread is two years old, and was written before the Lightning engine even existed. I doubt he is still working on this, but perhaps he has something to post that you could see.

Doubt it, cause it looks like he hasn't been around since 2007.
