Hey everyone! I need to show red shotgun shells ejecting from a SPAS-12 a few times in the movie I'm making. I couldn't find a preset for this.

Any out there?

I don’t think you could do this as a preset, instead you would need some stock footage of a shell falling and then composite in.

One possible way to do this would be to get a picture of a shell and start it at the top of the screen, move a few frames along and move the shell as if it was falling and rotate it a bit, a few more frames move it further down and rotate a bit more, keep doing this until it is off the screen all together. Render this out and you now have a quickly made bit of stock footage of a shell falling.

If you do this a couple of times with the shell falling in a different way each time you could make a small library of shells that could be used for your shot.

Using the above technique I quickly made a couple of sample shots to show what it could look like.

shell_fall_one.avi
shell_fall_two.avi

I hope the above helps with your shot.

Yeah, I got thinking about that, and really I need some stock footage of the shotgun shells- not a preset. Whoops.

If you pass me some force points I could do it for you. PM me if you want me to do that.

www.detonationfilms.com has some free stock footage of flying/falling bullet shells. Once you put them in your clip, you could grade them red. Hope that helps!

You could also just throw some shotgun shells into the air against a black background and key out your hand and make the background transparent, then use that on your footage. Some ejection smoke stock footage or done with the fxhome particle engine would help sell the effect and hide any mistakes.

Off-topic but has to be said. This topic was last posted in several months back and a very much dead topic.

On-topic:

* A easy way would be to self-animate the falling shells.
* Another easy way would be to use the site given by Snook to find something which will hopefully be there.
* A bit more time consuming but to better and natural effect, you can get shotgun shells/something which looks like shell/make your own using something and throw them like Mandalorian has said.

That is, if you see this, lol.
