Hole in the ground after explosion [ANSWER]

How is a hole made in the ground after an explosion such as the one that is in the demo with the meteor hitting the ground, I was trying to do this in the demo of Vlab.

The simplest way is to paint a black blob in an image editor, import the image, and composite the scorch mark onto your footage. Alternately, you could create the shape using a freehand shape with the neon light engine, and set the core and glow colors to black, or a very dark brown.
