Here's a text tutorial.
Not all of the instructions will be correct, as the tutorial is made for an older program named Chromanator. However, you can certainly adapt the concepts to Visionlab.

The cloning/split screen technique is pretty easy, and those tutorials should help. The ball itself is slightly more complex, as its trajectory wasn't exactly the same in both shots, so the movement had to be artificially matched.
The ball is real throughout, but as soon as it leaves the girl's hands, it's moving on a hand-animated path, so that it blends into the catch.
I'll be doing an in-depth video tutorial on this and the other new shots soon.

I did this one by picking to points on the floor and having my mom throw this knife to me and then me throw it to her. I then masked the two shots together right as the knife goes by the tree to make it look continuous. The beginning is a little shaky because the clips weren't the same lenth. I assume it would be pretty much the same with a ball.http://s118.photobucket.com/albums/o118/Mandalorian4/?action=view¤t=Firstclonetest.flv
