So I wake up this morning and lo and behold, there’s a brand shiny new FXhome product just begging to be bought. I read the specs, and it was something I could really use. I bought it. I must say I'm quite impressed with the ease of use and speed of the product. As I mentioned earlier, being able to encode 40 minutes of full res video in 18 minutes is worthy of full marks. Yes, the product is deserving of the FXhome name on it, and should prove very useful to filmmakers everywhere.

However.

I find that, as a filmmaker, there is one deficiency I have a hard time swallowing. I have no control over the output of my end product. An example: I would love to specify the flash output as using X bit rate for the audio. Instead, I can only use Y. Same with video bitrates. Output customizability is what I'm driving at here.

Now, if this product is geared toward cookiecutter-esqe outputs only, then that’s fine. But for me, this means the utilitarian nature of the software has decreased. I'm stuck with what has been predetermined. If there are, however, plans in the future for adding custom output options, then forget everything I just said. smile

These are the rantings of a satisfied (mostly) software purchaser.

Yes - I agree. I know the app is aimed for someone to be able to click and encode to anything, but some fine tuning options wouldn't go a miss.

A custom option would be great too to give the abilities to create you own templates based on the included ones.

Although I must say it is a great product and is so much friendlier than squeeze.

I think ideally users should not only be able to customise their own render outputs, but be able to create presets for them which can be shared through a sub-section of the FXpresets on the website.

It'd be really cool to see some peoples personalised web templates too.

Given some technical skill it is possible to edit the template already.

You can simply copy the folder of the template and investigate the xml files it contains. We don't support this, but it is possible.

VideoWrap is meant to be a really simple application for those who don't know anything about encoding. That said, it is also meant to be useful to more experienced users.

We would consider adding some more customisation but depending one how far people want to go VideoWrap Pro might have to be created wink

Clever marketing potential, I must admit smile hehehe...

I, for one, would definitely spring for a reasonable upgrade price, if going to VideoWrap! Pro meant fully customizable output options. Because for me, these lack of options really hinder my use of the program.

If the option is there in xml then that's good enough for me.

edit: Yep - just set up a load of SketchWork templates and they work great.

Thanks.
