Yes, yes. It's time. Hope you got a head-start, seeing as we're kicking off a little later this year. Let's get the first order of business out of the way: the RULES.

These rules apply to all contest entrants and entries.

I. Miscellaneous rules

1. All films submitted must be of the "horror" genre. They can be funny, dramatic, action-filled, etc., but they MUST be scary!

2. Filmmakers are free to use whatever means they require to tell their story.

3. All films submitted must contain the spoken line of dialogue: "You thought I didn't exist." Use it creatively.

4. The contest winner will be declared on 31 October, 2007. The winner will be picked by a predetermined panel of judges.

II. File format restrictions

1. All videos submitted MUST be in a Quicktime-friendly format. This includes, but is not limited to: .MOV, .AVI, .MP4, .MPG. If it plays in Quicktime, it's acceptable. If this is not possible, FXhome user ROGOLO has graciously offered to convert files for those unable to compress their films into a Quicktime-friendly format.

2. File size must not be over 100 MB (Megabytes).

III. Important dates and times

1. ALL FILMS SUBMITTED MUST BE UPLOADED TO THE HAUNTFEST WEBSITE BEORE 00:00 (12:00 AM), MONDAY, 22 (TWENTY-SECOND) OCTOBER, 2007. All films NOT uploaded before this date and time will be unable to enter.

2. The contest winner will be declared on 31 October, 2007 (Halloween). The winner can expect electronic prizes in the following week, and mailed prizes within a month.

IV. Prizes

1. The contest winner will receive, by mail or electronically, the following prizes:

a. The sum of all force given by those who entered the contest.
b. FXhome has offered to TRIPLE the amount of force donated by users.
c. FXhome is also offering a MYSTERY PRIZE.
d. FXhome User Serpent is offering the book "$30 Film School".

This year, we will NOT have the winner chosen by a voting system. Instead, this year, we have an ALL-STAR PANEL OF JUDGES. On the panel we have:

er-no
Sollthar
Xcession
Waser
Arktic, and
Wizard

We thank them from committing to sit through all of your movies, and rate them accordingly. wink

Now, we hate to toss things up again, but this year we will NOT be continuing the tradition of the "IN" list. Entrants will simply pay a price of 50 force upon submitting their video. If the video is submitted, and no force is received, then the entry will be ineligible for the prize(s). We realize that there are restrictions on how much force can be transfered per day, so if this is a problem, please private message us.

That's about it! Miker and I have been incredibly busy lately, so we had not planned on kicking off so late. However, we did post that warning, so you should have at least a script written! We're looking forward to seeing your films, come the end of October.

GO WORK ON THOSE HORROR MOVIES!
-TimmyD and Miker

Midnight of the Hobo and Madison Street Boys will have to take a backseat this year, because Hauntfest is number one on my list.

I'm pumped.

EDIT:

Oh my god. "You thought I didn't exist" is the line? I just came up with an idea that can perfectly use that, and I didn't even see it until now. Sweetness.

EDIT 2:

To whom do we 'pay' force when submitting, and why must that particular entity be the sole beneficiary?

Having judges is a little ridiculous for this sort of thing. Wouldn't it be more appropriate (and garner a larger base of entries/audience) to make a poll for the best one open to the public?

We've decided to have judges this year because of the inaccuracy of a poll system, and issues related to it. It's highly unlikely that EVERYONE who votes actually watches every film, so it ends up being not fair. A panel of judges is the fairest way to do things. If you've got any more issues with this, please take it up in PM's.

What's with everyone and the 'Watch out, sucka!' attitude? biggrin

It's not like I said I was gonna kill anyone or anything, haha. Plus, I have college stuff to do, and therefore less time to do Hauntfest. So while I'll try hard to get a good one done, who knows how it'll turn out, or even if anything will turn out.

They usually post a submission thread. You could post it now to get some feedback and then improve it before the final date.

What fun is a contest without that attitude?! And Ben you really should..."WATCH OUT SUCKA". smile jk man. Good luck Bro!!

ON ANOTHER NOTE... I would like to throw down an invitation to a certain film maker on this site who seems to have some reoccurring “BEEF” with fellow friend and film maker "Ben3308 and myself". And if he's up for it, I'd like to let this contest be the grounds to settle this feud.

Since this little on going animosity has surrounded this film maker, and my close group of friends in Dallas ever since I can remember… I think a fair "Film Duel", would be suitable to handle this issue once and for all...

You all know him for films filled with “pudding veined characters saving the world.” But I extend a challenge to him to step out of his realm and have a little showdown….via “HAUNTFEST”.

EVMAN...I'm Calling you out. smile

Sadly, though I have several ideas in the air, because of other issues I have not been able to film anything yet.

And, permitting I do film some of the easier stuff afterschool this week, I still dunno how I'm gonna do the more effects-laden, difficult scenes I have planned. I mean, film someone run hastily from a wall casting scary shadows while it's raining, all the way until their car explodes in front of them ain't the easiest thing to plan.

Which is why I'm probably going to cut that scene altogether. This is, of course, considering I'm able to start anything.

For everyones INFO, EVMAN DECLINED The Extended Challenge.

While he blames it on a lack of time, Plenty of people are entering despite similar setbacks. So He has chosen to side step this and has taken the easy way out. BUt make no doubt he will continue to find time to take voting and verbal jabs at ben3308 and myself. While i know many film makers are filming ther projects over the coarse of part of "1 DAY", he cant seem to find even a couple hours to step up.

Oh well, i was really hopin he would step up and settle this dispute, but then again, cant say im surprised. smile

Brian, as much as I agree with you on a few of the points you've made, Evan, like myself, has some tedious college and SAT stuff to get done.

In fact, if you're my Facebook friend, check out my latest note about the SAT, it should shed light onto Evman, who I'm sure is in a comparable if not similar situation with things. And while you're on Facebook, check out my event for filming Hauntfest. It's all scheduled in and everything.

Also, I'd double check on things before posting.

I pm-ed Atom and apologized for being an ass, and explained why... Also the comments in the Marathon thread are all gone now.

Also, not that it bothers me, cause my reasons are pretty obvious already, but the P in "PM" actually stands for something, oddly enough.

Congratulations.

EDIT:

I also remembered that you forgot to mention that I infact did offer to take up your little challenge thing next summer, once I'm done with everything that's you know, important for me to do. Guess that doesn't matter though. I never knew I had so little knowledge of how PMs worked. Apparently you can post some of what they say (albeit in your own words) on the public forums, but mysteriously you can leave other things out. unsure

I have only three shots complete (each took roughly 18 takes to get right), meaning I really only have one little cinematic lineup from a HUGE scene.

The good news is, save the huge scene, I have two school scenes and some minor interstitial stuff that I think I can shoot quickly. The school setting I'll need a bunch of extras, equipment, and probably pizza, but we'll see what happens.

The PSAT is tomorrow, and I'm not taking it, so you never know. Bad news that my main actor goes to school across town from mine.

Heh, granted it usually takes me and my bro a month or two of pre-event organization pursuading people to be dedicated for a prolonged time on end (usually 24hrs plus 12 before and after), whereas in this instance I have no such help and no such time to plan.

Maybe I'll make an 'alone in the house' movie, as my original idea was meant to be in part. Yeah, that actually sounds like it might work.

I really don't want the deadline to roll around and me to not have a film online. Will there or will there not be a Hauntfest server (as the rules state) where I can upload my film? If someone could donate the 50 force to Timmy then I'll pay you back over the next week (I can only donate 8 force a day).

The upload form will be ready in time, and if it isn't, don't worry, it will be our problem.

Don't worry about the force, we won't exclude you because of the system-imposed limits.

Alright, I'm running into serious troubles on my end. We're working on a temporary fix. Until then, please follow Limey12345's model, and post the movie in this topic.

I apologize for the issues.

Seeing as how the winner will be announced soon, does anyone have anything to say about the submissions so far?

Just stay patient, guys, its been a couple of days but I'm sure there's a good reason (i.e.: most of our films getting online late) and that the administrators and judges of the contest are working on it.

It has officially been over a month since the proposed announcement of this contest's winners and the moderaters of it have given no explanation so far. I wouldn't care if you told us it was going to be another month, I'd just like some sort of statement. Do at least any of the judges have any information?
