Did anyone pick this game up yet? I got it yesterday and literally played for about 10 hrs ha. And whats funny is that I've always hated on Halo and said it was stupid.. this was my 1st time playing online.

One of the coolest features is actually the small map of the world in the bottom corner which lights up where everyone is playing the game. There were over 240,000 people online at 1 time yesterday. Anyways, if you got it put your gamertag in here.

Mine is: eGul i

Hope to catch some of you all on there.

Hey, just got Halo 3 today, looks kinda awesome biggrin Havn't tried any multiplayer at all yet, just been playing single-player so far. We should organize an FXhome Multiplayer game sometime in the near future (like we did last december with Gears of War)!

I work part time in a game store to keep money flowing my way and worked a midnight opening last night, ended up going home with an exclusive T-Shirt and a Legendary edition.

Yet to really pass judgement on Halo 3, I've never been a fan of the series though the scope of multi-player features is definitely (again) a console first and something to be reckoned with by the other consoles. After the midnight launch I ended up round a friends house playing deathmatch for hours - totally forgotten how powerful the console experience of sitting around with mates can be.

Graphically I have to say, though there are moments of beauty - the human character models are really bad. Perhaps my opinion is tainted by seeing Crysis or something, I just can't help but feel that perhaps we will see the consoles start to become dated within the next few months.

Have you not seen Rainbow 6??? Consoles are going to get even better in the next year. They haven't even used all the power that the ps3 and 360 are even capable of yet. Not to mention so many major releases coming up in the future. No way in hell consoles are gonna be dated in the next few months, thats crazy hah. Halo isn't known for its graphics anyways. Bioshock, Gears, Rainbow 6.. a lot of 2K games are

My parents wouldn't let me buy a 360. But I couldn't let myself pass on getting Halo 3. So on Sunday I went across town on my bike to buy a 360. I didn't realize how heavy the system was when you have to hold it at your side and ride a bike for 4 miles smile. I ended up crashing really hard, and I really messed up my hand sad. Since my parents can't know that I bought a 360, I've been keeping it at my friend's house since Sunday. I got Halo 3 as well biggrin.

I've only had the time walk around the maps to see what they were like so far. I like though, a lot! I'm saving until Friday for the campaign. I'm gonna play it all night on Heroic! Unfortunately I can't setup a Live account because of my issue with my parents. Maybe I'll tell them what I did in a month or two wink

DX10 is about to land on the PC front, so whilst mainstream gamers are likely to notice little difference - I personally plan to be riding at the very front of the technology wave. For me, consoles will look very dated within 6 months. This isn't to say that they will feel dated and there's very little reason for debating over this as I am prophesizing about tech which is yet to arrive and therefore seen to be believed smile

Gaming will always be a matter of preference and perspective based on what type of gamer you are. I imagine I'll be enjoying my 360 deep into territories where it is no longer a graphical super-power, just as I did my PS2.

My roommate bought the Legendary edition with the helmet... the helmet would be cool if you could actually wear it instead of just something to stick on a shelf! My other roommate (my brother) also bought a copy so all the TV's in the house have had nothing but Halo 3 on them ever since late Monday night. I haven't played it yet but it looks pretty good (especially on the 63" HDTV). I work in the marketing department for a video game store company, so on Monday night I went to one of our stores for the midnight release and video taped talking to people in line and as they went in and bought the game - that was pretty fun...

if you want to check out the video I made (I shot it for the company just for the fun of it)

Well great for you biggrin

A lot of kids at my school actually skipped school to play it yesterday.

I dont have a 360 but once I get a GL2 and an external mic, I'll start saving for a 360 and Halo 3. And it will be cheaper when I buy it biggrin .

I got the first Halo for 11$ and Halo 2 collectors edition for 22$ at gamestop about a year after they came out which is what I expect I'll do with this one. Live is the best part anyways...

Lmao@The way this topic has gone.

It's ok guys, the stereotype of gamers being nerdy types who never have girlfriends is long gone. Take me, for example.

Reality is always going to take precedent over virtual pursuits, though part of what has made the Halo series successful is that it is, by most degrees a very social and mainstream game. The extensive multi-player and co-op features are if anything, absolute proof of this.

I just finished the game on heroic, wondering if as usual there'll be some hidden ending for when I finish it on legendary. Now, going to give the multi-player a further look and then probably post a review up on eurogamer.

Sorry, perhaps I gave the wrong impression which was lead further down the dark path by A Pickle. I didn't mean to start a platform debate. As a gamer, I really hold no allegiances when it comes to platforms - that rhetoric is for idiots as by the nature of gaming you'd be left missing out on at least one must-play game. Which is heresy.

In any case, different types of gamers : different perspectives : different opinions. Which is fine, there are plenty of platforms and plenty of games out there to satisfy us all.

-Hybrid.

P.S. The finale of the game was a pretty special experience for me. Several occasions where the act of ferocious cheering was engaged by more than one member of the group. So few games evoke that.

Man do I love this game. Beat the campaign yesterday on heroic now I'm playing up online. Such a good game. Have to say there were a few moments during the campaign that really made me feel like a real hero as Master Chief.

On topic of games and women. Yeah, women come before games...but maybe only a really attractive woman before Halo.

I'm most likely getting a 360 for Christmas (if my family can afford that gift). I'd love to play some FXHomers on the internet, something I haven't experienced because I am not a PC gaming fan. Halo 3 is another incentive, of many incentives, that is convincing me to buy a 360 and I am pumped.

I'm not so pumped about Halo 3 as I am the really, really well done commercials for them.

The "Hall of Humanity" accounts with elderly people describing the battles and the weapons is cool if not overused for a few other games, but the museum set piece is amazingly detailed, and the commercial showing the statuettes of the soldiers gives a HUGE humanity to the game.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=UOcjAApy-i8

If you haven't seen it, watch it. I think it's one of the best ways they could've advertised the game. The guy with no legs being dragged away by a brute and the scared guy hiding behind the wall are my favorite bits. On the Halo website you can go through the whole model battlefield.

Yeah, I have that music video of that huge set piece in hd on my 360. It really does make it feel bigger than a video game.

The fake making of cites a few real facts I found out, one of which being that the diorama took three whole years to make, and unlike other museum dioramas where the figures are two or three inches high, the men in this piece are six or seven inches in height, meaning the display itself is vast. Apparently it took from the Halo 2 release until about now to finish the whole thing.

I have a hard time believing that actually took 3 years to build. It is nonetheless totally awesome. The commercials with the "veterans" in them are pretty well done in my opinion. All that coupled with the Blomkamp shorts make the prospect of a Halo 3 movie all the more exciting.

But anyway, I am now faced with a difficult decision: Save up for VisionLab or Halo 3 & Xbox 360.

3 years makes sense, think about it.

Each and every person in the diorama is hand-sculpted with different features, different equipment, and a different face. It's not like you could mold a 'standard soldier' and then just swap heads.

Assuming they can fully finish two or three a day, and considering that there's over 100 models in the piece, that's still around half a year just for creating the soldiers. Nevermind the other props, equipment, vehicles, aliens, and scenery that has had to be made.

The set itself is amazing in detail.

True, the soldiers and materiel were incredibly detailed, but we didn't see closeups of every single item. There were probably a bunch of high detail models for the camera (which I'm sure they could build more than 3 a day of), and more medium detail ones for further away, and then many low detail ones for the background, since undoubtedly the camera movement had been determined and story-boarded well beforehand. Besides, this was built by Stan Winston studios, and with their experience building miniatures for movies, they probably turned it out in a couple months. Moreover, it's also hard to believe that this ad campaign would have been fleshed out while Halo 2 was being released. My guess is they probably thought this up last year and started building it in the spring, and finished in the middle of summer.

But none of that makes it any less awesome.

For anyone who has not tried playing Halo multi-player online....you just absolutely have to....thats what all the buz is really about. on a scale from 1-10, the game by itself as compared to multi-play is like a 7 with multi-play being a 10 or 11. Once you do, playing by yourself just does not do anymore. lol

Yeah I agree. I dont see why that would take 3 whole years to make. I'd give it 5 months max. But it was cool looking.

And I haven't even tried the campaign mode on Halo 3 yet. I jumped straight online when I pulled the disc out and haven't stopped.

The reason it took 3 years to make the game is
1) They had to shoot in every spot on the map 50,000 times just to make sure there were no glitches in the place. They also had to jump in every place like 10,000 times also to make sure there were no glitches.
2)There are still 26,000 bugs that the makers still havent fixed, they have fixed like 10,000 and they are still working on it.

Well yeah, I had read that somewhere a few days ago. Personally,I don't think that Halo 3 is as good as everyone thought it would have been, but still if it ever does come out onto the PC, i'm most definatley going to purchase it:)

Ben, not really. You still follow a set path through the model, and although you cover a lot of ground, you can't see that many faces in detail.

Graphically those games are nice, though I'm really yet to see something that matches the photorealism of Crysis, or the design brilliance of Team Fortress 2.
Team Fortress 2 will be making it's appearance on the PS3 and 360 at the same time of the PC. As of this moment I think there are really only 1 or 2 games that look nicer on the PC but you have to have a several thousand dollar computer, compared to a $350 xbox 360, in order to really play it.

Economically, 360 is a great system for the power it produces.

But yea, it's to bad the 360 is so faulty. I had to ship mine back to get the disc drive repaired. I picked up my Limited Edition copy up after work since I got off at 12:40 and the gamestop was right there so all the crowds had already left. But I took my game over to a friends house the next day and played some of the first level and "Sandtrap" on multiplayer. I'm counting down the days till I get my console back. HOpefully I receive it before GHIII comes out.

Ew... I won't be going near GH3 as Harmonix sold the rights to neversoft I've seen nothing but features that put me off. If you really want to remain truely hardcore (or at least as hardcore as you can for someone who rocks out with a small plastic guitar) wait for Rock Band. smile

Back to Halo 3 - Has anyone had a look at the Theater features yet? I was surprised by how everything is recorded automatically. I assumed you'd have to press something like you did with the beta. It's pretty sweet.

Yeah the Theater feature really surprised me. It's great to go back and watch moments of pwnage again in slow motion, then pause when that grenade blows up and kills 5 guys and twirl around it ala Matrix.

So far, I've found that I suck horribly at multiplayer. I guess I'm just not entirely used to the controller yet. However, in Single Player I'm having great fun on normal difficulty. The environments, though linear, feel MASSIVE and epic, and the graphics aren't too shabby either. I like how while it doesn't do anything revolutionary, it polishes and refines everything to a maddening level.

Anyway, if anyone wants to easily blow me up a few times, my XBL Gold gamertag is r1ck QC (got it from a friend)

One of the coolest features is actually the small map of the world in the bottom corner which lights up where everyone is playing the game. There were over 240,000 people online at 1 time yesterday. Anyways, if you got it put your gamertag in here.

Mine is: eGul i

Hope to catch some of you all on there.
Oh, sweetness! I love Halo! I have been a fan since the beginning. Me and my brother and 3 cousins and 2 friends stayed up all night (And all day) playing it as soon as it came out. We have the special edition.

One of the things that had me so utterly against Halo (other than my elitist PC gamer nature) was because I was constantly pestered by people assuming I was a fan of the Halo series. Halo ruined my perfectly good web alias. neutral

Seeing as how I've never, in any way, understood the hype associated with such an unepic, unlegendary, and uniconic game that somehow is seen as all those things: I never really cared for the story in the first place.

For future reference, you can hide spoilers by making the text white, white doesn't show up on the white post background. People can then view the spoiler if they want by selecting the area.

I'm actually deleting any posts with spoilers in them regardless of whether they're masked or not. If you want to talk about spoilers then head over to the halo 3 forums or youtube the ending. Anything that doesn't involve posting them here.

I think Hybrid has shown his appreciation for the game and simply doesn't want it ruined for people. I think if people mark their spoilers and hide them properly it should be discussed if members do please. You are being a little hard though and I suggest you read the first couple pages of the thread. I'm always with you when it comes to people unnecessarily bashing Halo every chance they get, but Hybrid is being completely unbiased here and is in no way trying to ruin this thread or whatever you thought he was doing.

no not ruining, i just thought it unusual that he was deleting spoilers....since all the mods it seems like have said in the past if you dont want things spoiled for you then don't enter the thread. I'm pretty sure once upon a time there were a bunch of people on here that said that they shouldn't even have too put a spoiler warning on things.....whether hybrid was one of them or not I don't know....and im not trying to single out hybrid, I was really just asking, whether or not it was a new development that the mods are now doing. Or if it just was unique to this halo thread....I would have said the same thing to any other mod...

That's correct with newly released films - it's going to be about the story, inevitably, so if you haven't seen the film yet it would be silly to read the topic.

With games it's a bit different, as there's lots to discuss besides the story, and everybody plays games at different speeds depending on their skill/style/free time, so not everyone is going to be at the same point. As such, it's a slightly trickier situation.

This topic can remain spoiler-free so that people can discuss the gameplay etc and non-spoilery story aspects. If you want to start a separate topic in General Chat specifically for spoilers and story analysis, then go for it.

I have to admit that I agree to some extent, and that I wasn't surprised by the ending to Halo 3 in the slightest, nor was I interested.

Halo 3 isn't a game made epic by its story or setting but by the game play scenarios in which playing through the game with a friend (or three) can evoke. It has honestly been such a long time since I played a game with friends who a week later are still talking about some of the things that happened in game.

Couple this with the ability to replay it all in slow motion, and you have one of the strongest aspects of any console shooter ever.

Addressing my deletion of spoilers - due to Halo's different endings based on different difficulty completions and that you can experience Halo without playing ANY of the story then I feel it's safer to keep things spoiler free. If you truly desire then you can make a separate thread which contains spoilers.

It's a tough one. Lots of games improve substantially on HL2, but only in single areas. Halo3's recording/video stuff sounds awesome, for example. Bioshock took atmosphere and sound design to a new level. Stalker has far more interesting AI interactions.

But, as you say, Valve seem to have a knack of having everything at a remarkably high quality. Not sure how they do it. Probably by missing hundreds of release dates. wink

Hehehe, that comment was meant more as an in joke. The more I play either of the mentioned titles the clearer it becomes that they are completely different both by design and intention.

By all means, they are both kings. Though the kingdoms they reign over are almost polar. In terms of strict first person shooter enjoyability I would probably say Halo is the better game.

Half Life or rather, Valve studios are much more a platform for improvement and revolution rather than refinement of the fps genre which in my opinion make Half Life 'better'. A decision based entirely on my perspective and outlook on gaming rather than anything factual.

So... I apologize for mentioning the game that shalt not be named within a Halo thread. Let's get back on topic before my intentions are misinterpreted. smile

I just got a 360 today and I'm getting Halo 3 in a couple of days. This is exactly what I did 2 years ago too. I bought an xbox just for Halo 2 and now I'm doing it again after selling my wii... boy am I glad I sold that thing the only good game was Zelda and Brawl is still not out.

There also coming out with new Indiana Jones, Bourne legacy, and Force games to and only The Force was coming to the wii so I'm glad I got a 360, I couldnt stand the wii's controller coundnt aim worth the crap on fps's.

EDIT: just noticed I kinda got off topic...

And, Halo3 IS epic. Just play the campaign. The cutscenes are Hollywood-grade shots.

I disagree with your reason, totally. Halo has a pretty good storyline that the games do a horrible job of conveying, the only thing really truly worthy of being epic other than what I've already mentioned is perhaps the soundtrack.

Back to what I was going to say, I will be getting a chance to play Assassins creed this Thursday (fingers crossed). A friend of mine has already played the force unleashed and did not report good things. unsure

Here's an idea, let's not assume anything is amazing until we've played it. I'm not taking any chances after BioShock.

I enjoyed Bioshock, but in my opinion is was nowhere near worthy of the crazy ratings it had recieved. I place Halo 3 pretty far ahead of Bioshock though on Metacritic Bioshock is rated higher.

Bioshock was a gorgeous game to look at despite some rubbery character models. That's more or less where what I enjoyed ended - the abilities you gain are meant to add variation though you end up using the same ones over and over to fight the same types of enemies in the same situations over and over.

I didn't find this process fun. The game also cut major corners in regard to story telling. I would have personally rated it something closer to 8/10.

Though sure, different tastes.

That and the villains got harder to kill and machines harder to hack for no apparent reason. That was kinda weird. Not to mention, a picture of whats in my trash can right now would be more entertaining to me than the endings that bioshock had.

I agree with you on all those points and further agree that for me Bioshock probably would rank at around 8-8.5 out of 10. The hacking did lose its charm after like three hacks.

I just got my 360 in today and got halo 3 a few days ago, This is by far the best and funnest game I have ever played, Its also the best game graphically that I've played, but before this I had a wii and a regular xbox, and I've had a 360 for about 5 hours, so I havent played many next gen games.

I'll have xbox live in about a month or so, my gt will be " a GreenPenguin " I doubt its taken but if it is then oh well.

You should rent or buy Gears of War and play it Co-op with a friend. I tell ya, me and my friend I co-oped it with still talk about it like we are old war buddies, its also probably one of the truest next-gen games for the 360.

Is the light red? And did you buy it used? If you got it new that would be weird as all the new ones have a smaller chipset so it doesn't overheat as much.

All four rings can light up green depending on what player you're logged in as. If three of them light up red though, time to return it.

There were about 1 900 000 online at one point during the first few days it was out. And of course, that is when I decided to use my 48 hour Xbox Live trial...

I'm feeling jealous of those TF2 people. We should try to organize a Halo 3 fxhome game or something along those lines.

Meanwhile, my Gamertag is: Dybbe

(Btw, I didn't buy 360 just for this game. I bought it for Banjo-Kazooie)

Oh I forgot to put my gt on here its: the DFA

And I did buy a 360 mostly because of this game, more for the online than the campaign but it was fun too.

Yeah we should after looking at those pics from the Team Fortress tournament, I was starting to feel a little bit left out... smile

Nah.
I don't see how a hardcore Banjo-Kazooie fan buys 360 for that game (++) is worse than a hardcore Halo fan buys 360 for that game (++)

I'm looking forward to try Halo 3 though, I hear many nice words, but I haven't tried it for myself yet.

Well the problem with Banjo-Kazooie 3 is that most of Rare's developers that worked on the first two fantastic games have moved on to work for other companies. So I think that Banjo-Kazooie 3 will either be incredible, or it will bomb terribly.

Back to the Halo 3 Discussion. An FXhome match would be awesome. I'm all for it. My gamertag: FreshMentos2

Heh, funny you should say that. I bought Xbox cause of Conker, which was a huge disappointment. I still hope Banjo will be good though, but I'll still have some good games.

I feel kind of complete now that I finally have all three. Yay. razz

Halo 3 is pretty sweet. A lot of the graphics are just beautiful.

Only thing that bothers me is the ragdoll physics when you get killed by physics such as grenades or vehicles, your body flies through the air staticly as if someone suddenly froze you into a block of ice until you hit the ground.

Gamertag: Nakish (it's what Chicken sounds like backwards. inside joke from a long time ago, haha)

I think thats supposed to happen cause in the very beginning when they find him his armor is locked up or something.

The only thing that really bothers me is how on live, when you get hit way up in the air you'll be flying for a second then you "dink" into another position somewhere totally different.
