A selection of visual effects clips that I've produced for various projects, tests, etc. from 2003 to 2007. Features explosions, heat vision, lasers, lightsabers, various compositing effects, and even some 3D work. Set to the song "Movies" by Alien Ant Farm. At present, all I have is the YouTube link, but if anyone is willing to host the file properly for me, I would be grateful.
Feedback and questions are, of course, welcome!

You have some really nice material there. Well done.

One thing to watch out for in the future is that you have some interlace problems every now and again.

Other than that - a really good reel.

Well done.

Some really good stuff here and some REALLY bad stuff here. For a tighter reel try to cut out the bad stuff, the boring stuff, the stuff that you've seen everyone else do.

Assuming you intend this as a demo reel to show to clients, I second what Jim Malone is saying, but I'd specifically suggest you remove all the lightsaber stuff, bar the lighting the cigarette clip. No one grown up cares about them.

On the other hand if this isn't serious and "demo reel" is just a title, not a reflection of your desire to appear professional, then do whatever you want.

Well this one in particular was just for fun - amd to kill some time while my camera was being repaired. That's why there's a lot of really old stuff in here. Thanks a lot for the advice though! When I assemble a more polished demo reel, I'll be sure to use my newest work...and to keep the lightsabers to a minimum biggrin

Some of the effects aren't too bad. The music however, is horrendous.

No one grown up cares about lighting cigarettes or no one grown up cares about lightsabers? If you are refering to lightsabers, I would have to disagree. But having too many lightsabers can bore anyone to death unless its a well choreographed fight scene.

As a working professional, I would highly recommend removing the song. Your potential employer WILL mute the sound when watching it if you have a pop-song on it.

Get some right free ambience that isn’t irritating. Choosing a type of music with lyrics means that IF your employer is making a tough call between you and some one else and is really on edge, you don’t wana find out his/her distaste of your sound track lost you the job.

All the best.

That was really quite good! There was some thigns that needed work- namely the 3d models- such as the star wars one near the beginning (It seemed too bright compared with the exterior atmosphere) but all the particle engine stuff was really really good! Well done on that!

All the best,
Sam

i counter disagree lol. You don't want that sort of stuff really in a showreel. You want to show off that your better than other people. ALot of people do the lightsabre thing...
