Hey anyone have any tips on how to make a car explosion like a car bomb with a person in the foreground look convincing using fxlab's effects, or does anyone have good stock footage that can be easily put in the background?

Try Detonation Films (http://www.detonationfilms.com/) for explosion stock footage.

Also, check out Day of the Hobo (http://fxhome.com/cinema/view/2706/day-of-the-hobo) for a fairly good car explosion made using EffectsLab

What stuff did you download from the downloads area?

If you got some explosions from the old AlamDV2 Plugins, you need to import those as an image stream by going "File"-->"Import Image Stream" and then selecting all the files.

Have you read the manual on how to import FXpresets?

Its in the full manual on page 91.
