Yeah, I don't really know what I want for christmas either. Last year it literally came down to me sitting in one of those massage chairs while shopping for christmas gifts with my dad and just saying I kind of liked it.

I may ask for a new tent and gear for camping or maybe an hdtv.

I love Christmas! biggrin Pretty much my whole film's budget relies on this Christmas. I don't really know what I'm getting but it's probably something along the lines of:

Lights (par cans or something)
Prop swords
Pirates of the Carribean
Reflectors
Materials for costumes
Big pieces of foam insulation for set construction
Money for other stuff. biggrin

Stuff I probably won't get:

HDR-FX1
Awesome prop swords
An awesome computer
An awesome HDTV
An awesome surround system
ILM biggrin

Seriously, if it wasn't for movies, I'd have nothing to ask for.

So far this reads like consumerism at its finest, whatever happenned to 'You know I've got a heap of 'stuff' already, more than I can really appreciate - heck, let's give to charity this year instead'

(come on, be honest, you know you've got stuff and gadgets and toys you don't use!)

Yeah, I'm also getting rid of a lot of stuff. Problem is most of the stuff I have is junk like bits of wire and rocks I painted colors when I was 5. smile Aside from CompositeLab, I don't recall buying much of anything this year; I always ask people to donate money on my birthday instead of giving presents. (usually they still give me presents anyway) You get my point, Christmas is really the only time I ever spend money, and that's why I love it so much.

Also, I think this thread wouldn't be classified as "Consumerism" or "Materialism", but instead, "Trivialism"

I've always loved christmas, not neccesarily for the stuff you'll get (even f that's fun too) but more for the overall mood of everyone and everything. I just think it's really, really nice! biggrin I have a few films and games on my wishlist for christmas, and some examples are:

Movies:
Planet Terror (DVD)
Death Proof (DVD)
Transformers (HD DVD)
The Bourne Ultimatum (HD DVD)
Pirates of the Carribean – At World’s End (Blu-ray)
The Simpsons Movie (Blu-ray)
Blade Runner: Final Cut (DVD)

Games:
Mass Effect (Xbox 360)
Uncharted (PS3)

Bought Assassin's Creed for the 360 a couple of days ago, and it's really, really cool!

I love Christmas. I love the atmosphere, the Christmas lights, the msuic, everything. So Merry Christmas, and here's a few things on my list:

Steriogram (CD)
School of Rock (DVD)
Employee of the Month (DVD)
Disturbia (DVD)
Tommy Bahama Cologne (cologne, obviously)
Digital Scrather Set (for your iPod to mix)
Eric Clapton Signiture Pedal (effect pedal for guitar)
Family Guy Stewie Tshirt (tshirt)

These are some things I want, I know I'll get them, and since I have a lot of other Aunts and Uncles, I have to think of more stuff. Disgusting, thinking I actually have to think of more stuff, although its pretty awseome.
Merry Christmas!

I really wanted Leopard for X-Mas this year but I got very lucky. My sister just got a Macbook that came with the Leopard DVD. So I popped it in my iMac and installed Leopard. Woo Hoo! I'm super stoked. Now I can focus on getting some other stuff that I wasn't planning on getting.

Now on to the List.

Games:

Mass Effect
Zelda Phantom Hourglass
The Orange Box
Call of Duty 4
Zack and Wiki
(I'll probably only get one of these games.)

Computer Stuff
Speakers
DVI-VGA converter for Mac
iTunes Certificate
Second Monitor that's bigger than 20” and supports HD
Visionlab

Camera Stuff
Lense filter kit for camcorder
Case/Bag
Panasonic MiniDV tapes
A good fluid head tripod.

I'll probably end up getting 1 game, the speakers, the iTunes certificate, the Monitor, and all of the camcorder accessories except for the tripod. Those would be great gifts in my oppinion. Oh, money would be nice too. biggrin

Uh-oh, my bro's a little pissed someone stole his annual thread on the day we all happen to be out of town, haha.

Anyhow, stuff I want, in no particular order:

    the smallest KesslerCrane they make

    35mm Adapter, used or SGPro.

New Li-On Battery for the GL2

Fisheye Lens for the GL2 (because I saw another local guy do wonders with one on his GL2)

The actual rights to a few Sean Beeson songs

    an XBOX360

Mass Effect, Dead Rising, Guitar Hero 3, Halo 3, Call of Duty 4, or Ghost Recon

for the cast of MSB to pony up to finishing the film

an HMI light kit and some gels

Abercrombie & Fitch 'Fierce' Cologne (has it last year, loved it)

    Banana Republic gift cards galore

    The GAP gift cards galore

    AMC movie cards

The gaming stuff I don't at all expect to get, but it'd be nice.

The gift cards I would love, as I'm trying to upscale the quality of my wardrobe before I head to college where all I'll be wearing is stuff from the co-op. And you just can't ever go wrong with Banana Republic, and the GAP is mostly good stuff.

So basically I'd like the latter three. And the few camera things wouldn't be bad. You know what, I'd also like the small version of the Kessler Crane. I have access to an AdvantaJib, which is the best you can get (spherical axis of camera rotation, in all directions), but it takes too long and is too large to set up, especially on unpermitted locations.

Expecting something big for graduation, so birthday (Dec. 28 ) and Christmas nothing huge.

Yes, me as well, er, well kinda along those lines.

I got a car this year (my dad wanted to get a new one, so i got the old one), and before I go to college (waiting as late as I can cause they get outdated fast), a macbook.

My dad and I were looking into the top notebooks I could get to keep a steady editing workflow. The Alienware and Precision/XPS Dells. But for 4GB RAM, at least 300GB, and a good graphics card, it'd just be too costly for being a good number of months before I won't be using my desktop.

So..........graduation, then. Looking at an iPhone or Cingular Tilt for Birthday/Christmas thingy.

Tragically, it also happens to be a chick magnet scent, thanks to A&F drenching their stores with it 24/7. They basically hypnotize impressionable jailbait into equating "Fierce" with "Half naked male models"

Come to think of it I would love the telephoto, wideangel, and fish I lens that you can get for the panisonic camcorders. Since I have a twin brother (Who dose not have my good looks smile ) and our birth days are so close to christmas, we were thinking that we could get an Xbox 360 for christmas and our birthday. Two weeks ago we went through our room (Yes we share one frown ) and put the things we don't need or the cloths that are to small and stuff like that to good will. It's amazing how bare this room looks now.

There's some seriously rich parents here...
And mine arn't one of them, but that's OK, I love then any way smile.

If you're referring to me, the car is very old and very cheap, and I paid for a good portion of it myself out of pocket, as well as paying for all gas and insurance.

The macbook would be a graduation present, cause it'll basically be necessary in college.

And did I mention that I'm basically not getting anything for christmas or my birthday because of these two things? (No idea if you were actually referring to me, but it kinda miffed me anyway... razz )

I just bought myself a new 52" LCD HDTV so I'm tapped out already for this Christmas.

I don't really want things from other people. My toys are so expensive no one could buy them anyway, but my list would include:

Guitars in the $2000 to $4000 range (Jackson)
Sound equipment - Marshall all the way.
Guns - semi-auto handguns and carbines
Lot's of ammo
video equipment

All high dollar stuff. So I just buy it myself.

I wouldn't turn my nose up at a bottle of Jack Daniel's if someone wanted to give it to me though! biggrin

Well, I wasn't referring to you, as it happens, but I'm also surprised by your reaction. I didn't think there was anything critical in my post, I was just surprised by the extravagance of some people!

There's no need to be ashamed or 'miffed' if your parents are rich (or not rich)... smile

I live in a wealthy area and go to a school where I pass 12 Mustangs in the parking lot and 3 Hummers (student parking lot, not faculty). One of our rival schools is in a dirt poor area, and I get called rich all the time.

Defense mechanism I suppose. razz

Haha, I feel you there. I live in an affluent area of the country, and put up with hecklings and criticisms for it regularly. It's funny, because you never here people being made fun of for coming from underprivelaged or impoverished regions...

Since I buy what I want all year long its hard to make a Christmas list. When I see something I want, I tend to have it in a few weeks or less. I am a gamer I have been since I was a teenager which was a very long time ago. I was going buy me a PS3 today but my wife told me she already had me one for christmas (ruined that surprise LOL).

I think my biggest problem is I have to many hobbies. I'm a gamer (6 game systems plus built my own arcade machine), I'm in to computers (7 at home 4 I built), I'm in to RC Helicopters (4 at home I built), I love Movies (built a theater and have about 1000 DVD's), I like editing movies and adding effects in them and doing digital pictures with photoshop. Heck I stumbled onto this site and bought compositelab pro and Effectslab Pro the same day I saw it without blinking an eye. So many hobbies, so little time.

One thing I need to get is a good video camera that can produce good footage when transfered to the computer. The little panny I have right now just dont cut it. Oh yeah, just ordered my green screen and stands from Tubetape.com cant wait to get that in next week <--- I guess that will be my christmas gift from ME to ME haha.

Haha, I guess it sounds funny unless you know the software. I think he means this, though.

DV stands for digital video. HDV stands for High definition video. His name doesn't necessarily refer to a format. So, er, yeah. It still works. smile

I want a 22" upper receiver with Picatinny handrails and a Picatinny accessory handle for my AR-15. A nice bayonet would be pretty cool, as well as a nice night vision scope. 1,000 .223 Remington rounds would be nice, too. biggrin

A nice car mount for my HV20 would be nice, and a nice, new digital still camera would be wonderful. Mine is currently in JAPAN, and it's... aging. A friend of mine just picked up a 12 megapixel camera for something on the order of $250. Mine cost that a year or so ago -- and it's 4.3 megapixels. It is time to upgrade. biggrin

Some accessories for my phone would be nice, too. I think maybe a car mount, a bluetooth earpiece, and a little 2.5" --> 3.5" headphone adapter would be nice, so I could play music from my phone through my car speakers. That'd be BAMF. biggrin

To tell the truth I haven't even thought about Christmas. I've been counting down the days to the Sweeney Todd opening. Go Dec. 21st!

Well I already got Guitar Hero 3 as an early Christmas present (Which is better than Rock Band smile )

So I'll probably just get money so I can buy an HV20 and a Rode NTG-2.

Basically I wished for a bunch of dvds (Black Sheep, Severance, Hot Fuzz 3 Discer, I Drink Your Blood, Death Race 2000), a bunch of books (anything by Bret Easton Ellis, Chuck Palahnuik, or Kurt Vonnegut that I don't already have), some video games (Mario Galaxy, Mass Effect, and the last two Phoenix Wright games), and a best of New Order album.

Oh yeah, and a jersey of my favorite NBA player:

Exaaaaactly. biggrin

Picatinny rails are basically the firearm equivalent of the PCI slot. I can add a scope, a little tactical flashlight (because it looks cool), a laser sight, or even a USB coffee warmer! Though, I highly doubt they make those in styles that would fit Picatinny rails. sad

Pickle, as I'm turning 18 this year, and am now able to buy one, I'm wondering if you have any suggestions for purchasing a firearm. I'm asking because, well, you seem to know what you're talking about on this kind of stuff.

I have 270 bucks, am willing to spend a little less than than, and would like to use it for target practice/hunting whenever I'm in the Texas plains or my uncle's estate in northern Arkansas.

Well, I don't pretend to know everything... but I have gotten into firearms as of late. It's a FASCINATING subject.

I shall send you a PM.
