I've got an assortment of airsoft pistols, and they all have clips. What sort of gun is it that you have? Because this is the sort of effect that should definitely be done on set if at all possible.

only nerf, but i'm gonna go to a walmart and see what they have cheap. Do you need to have ammo in to use blowback on drop clips?

I'm not sure you're even familiar with the words you're using.

Pistol magazines don't just drop out of guns at random. No pistol is designed so that the magazine drops out when empty, as you seem to be suggesting. I'm guessing that perhaps you're refering to those cheesy action scenes where someone fires an entire magazine, the slide mechanism shoots back, the magazine falls out and the hero slams in another mag from thin air, all within a split second. In these cases, the magazine falls out because they pressed the release mechanism, not because the guns is designed to do it automagically.

If you have a gas blowback airsoft you do not have to have BB's in it to operate it. Like Xcession said though you'll still need to press the mag release for the mag to drop.
