Hi I have just been playing around with Comp lab Pro and found out that importing HD film into it was not detecting a template and settings correctly, where in Effects Lab Pro it works correctly (the inputs are template, Aspect ratio and Scan method).

The second issue is that I can't select from a list of templates either (this happens in effects lab Pro as well)

Both of these are in the project settings after selecting a movie as a base for a new project.

I am running on an iMac on the Admin account. (OS X 10.4.11) most recent versions of Composite Lab pro and Effects Lab Pro.

this is causing a headache for me as when I import the movie I get these black borders to the left and right of the film, unless I get the correct template (I don't know how I managed to get the detection of template, it worked once randomly)

Thanks.

Can you give me some more information about the HD clip you are using, what specific codec is it. QuickTime should be able to find the correct resolution upon loading it, does it look correct in the QuickTime player? As far as I know, EffectsLab Pro and CompositeLab Pro use the same system to import and create projects, so its odd that one would work and the other not.

OK, I'm not at home ATM, so this is what I can remember (and am 100% on).

Its an apple intermediate(sp?) HD codec, at resoloution 1080i50 (or whichever one is the PAL version)

The codec is what it is put into when I import through Final Cut express on my Mac. When I open up the properties (in finder) I get all the correct settings, I haven't tried opening it up only in Quicktime but it played fine in FCE.

Just to update this As Ive gone to Vision Lab now and am getting similar problems. Ive found that the HD option in VL uses resolution 1440 * 1080 which has a correct aspect ratio of 1.3333, BUT the codec I am using is resolution 1920*1080 according to the codec which finder says is "Apple Intermediate Codec, Integer (Big Endian)" which would have an aspect ratio of 1.7777 by my calculation(currently not an option).

So from my observations, it seems that the canvas is not setting itself to the ratio it says it is cause by my reckoning i should see horizontally squished footage when i import, but I am seeing horizontally stretched footage, weird or what.
