I have just started a new project. A complete CGI sci fi video, which i plan to make into a 6 part series called Battle for the stars. I have thought about this for a while and rather than making a star wars fan film and add it to the hundreds of other fan films that are out, i wanted to make a completely new storyline. I will mainly be using 3D Studio Max and poser to complete this feat, and already have some scenes already made. This story has been in my mind for the last 15 years and i even made a brief comic about it when i used to draw a lot, however the story back then was more of a man who smuggled, traded goods and ended up getting involved in a space war between government forces

The story: Battle for the Stars

The year is 2090 man has pretty much mastered intergalactic travel. The moon and mars have been colonized, there is a huge space station orbiting the earth, and we are just getting to venture further into our galaxy to explore and research our system. The earth space station is controlled by the military and named Galactic Navy. Now ships are not just military, as now space travel has been avaliable to civillians, so you get transport freighters, pirates, holiday makers etc... (alough all these do not play much of a role in the story) The ships use a kind of lightspeed, but i dont want to call it this as this is a star wars term

A small Science research ship gets into saturns part of space and gets attacked by an unknown fighter ship. It turns out that its an alien force and the story unfolds that we all go to war with them. Big battleship fights, small space fighter fights and all that.

I plan to have around 20 charactors in this story, all CGI (thanks to Poser) and i really think this will work.

However As i have 20 charactors I don't have 20 voices, I know i can pull off one or 2 voices maybe even 5 if i edit them in a sound editor. But what I need are volenteers who are willing to record their voice and send it to me so it looks like I have a multiple voice cast for the show.

I am about to start writing the script, even though I have the story in my head. Who is interested in doing some voice acting from my script (when its finished) and being a part of this show?

Give "The Skull Hunter" a pm. He posted a thread about doing free voiceovers for no budget films a while back. Since he's a professional, he should be able to do some nice voices.

Thanks for that. However if anyone else is still interested, i still need small parts, where no real acting is involved like air traffic control officers talking to ships and simple stuff like that

I'd be glad to help, but I'm not much of a voice person. My brother, though, is talented in that area, and he said he would be glad to help you out.

A very big Thank you to all that are supporting me with this. I am really looking forward to see how this turns out. Everyone will be credited, and I hope you all know that someo of you will have big parts and others may have not so big parts. Either way, I know for sure you will have a bit of dialogue to get through. I spent all last night putting together all the characters and giving them each a personality profile. When I send the parts out you will only get the script for your own character, i do hope it wont confuse you as you will be having a one sided conversation so to speak, but when i get all the audio files and blend them together it should prove very effective

I just want to wish you every success in your "Poser" venture and can't
wait to see it finshed and proudly showing in the FXhome cinema.
You have taken on a massive undertaking which will become your life for as long as it takes to complete.
I'm a Poser fan and understand the problems ahead for you but I'm sure you'll stick with it and come out with a quality production that Poser is quite capable of doing.(not in my case...hehe).
Goodluck

Thanks, I know that this project will probably take about a year to finalise, due to posers slow rendering problems and it is that mainly that will hold everything back, however I cant animate the charactors until i get the sound files so in the meantime Its a case of working on all the other scenes, especially the ships, space and backgrounds. Luckily I won't be lip synching the characters all the time because some of the time they will be wearing helmets, or the sounds will be edited into a radio sound effect over the top of the ships fighting in space

For everyone that helps out with this, I do hope you appreciate this isn't something that will be ready in a month so do be patient and sometime later in the year you will get a surprise when i post the completed version up. I will stick at this as i am a perfectionist and will never stop until i have achieved what i set out to do

cool. I will pm each of you soon, still writing the script. Just something you need to be aware of first

1. for obvious reasons you need to be in a quiet atmosphere without any background noise.

2. If possible make sure your recording has very little if no fuzz at all.

3. Somehow be able to upload the sound files (in wav or mp3) somewhere i can download them from you. www.filefront.com is an excellent free place to host content. Apart from that we are good to go.

I would not use mp3 if you can avoid it, it is a lossy format great for getting alot of music into an Ipod but if you want quality stay away from them. With editing and what not you are likely to reduce the quality several times(each time you save them) if you do use them.

I'd like to offer the use of my voice but I'd like to ask; are you going to audition people's voices to get the right ones for the roles, or will it merely be "first come, first served"? Also, why only send a specific character's lines, when for a good performance it's better to know what the other person has said in order to have the right reaction?

Incidentally, I'd be inclined to agree with Justinsane regarding mp3, depending on where and how it'll be shown, of course.

its more of a first come first serv basis because i cant be too picky with auditions as i have quite a few characters and i dont want to get stingy and find I have no voices for like 5 characters cos i turned down too many people. And yes i agree about the audio i do prefer wav, i said wav or mp3 so i dint get any other unusual sound format.

"cory" is a natural for VO's and is doing a good few voices for my Poser "SIN City" fan film.....He's done some fantastic VO's already and i hope more to come as I progress.
