It's my birthday, and I'm loading up on the three main Hoos. Hookah, Hookers, and Hooters.

Can't wait!

Someone's upset I didn't give them a "Happy Birthday!" Facebook message two weeks ago. smile

Nevertheless, congrats on also turning 18, Evman.

I tell you what I learned after turning 18. For every 1 new pro/advantage you get for turning 18, there are 5 cons/disadvantages you will have to deal with. Welcome to the real world, it sucks! LOL

Im just waiting another 1 and a half years until Im 21, thats when things start to get better.

Age 18-20 kinda sucks

There really should be a general birthday thread or something, individual bday threads end up cluttering the forums (no offense Atom razz )

Also, don't forget to sign up for the draft, cause apparently that's mandatory, even though it isn't in effect. No one told me that till today.

Other than that, have fun staying out past 11... or isn't there a curfew in the crazy state of Texas?

One for Texas and a specified one for the City of Dallas. But Cops laugh at it and think it's just to bust kids balls anyway. No one cares.

But yeah, it's funny, unfortunate luck with the curfew. I don't normally like birthday threads, but I've been here nearly 5 years and it's my (and Ben's, I guess) 18th birthday so I thought what the hell.

The draft is a tricky, funny thing, too. You can get reprimanded for not signing up immediately or when you vote. Who knew?

If you're going to smoke, go get a pipe. It's the most enjoyable way to smoke in my opinion.

Bah Humbug! When I was busy exploring 18-year-old things you were busy getting born :-$ You'll never remember the 1980's (not a bad thing necessarily), and probably love bands I've never even heard of, and be sick of old farts 'remembering when...' - but it'll be your turn in another 18 years, so make them count!

Go out, take risks, make mistakes, put them right, and learn from them. Don't imagine such thing as a job for life even exists, no matter who tells you what. Go and be extra-ordinary, go and discover the sweetness and bitterness of life, and really live it. Always imagine what you'd have regretted not trying on your deathbed, and try it. If it takes you into conflict with others or the law, you're an adult and you can weigh it all up for yourself - I'm hoping your deathbed regrets don't include killing British forum members proffering pseudo-motivational speeches. Say yes to everything, don't overthink things, life has a way of surprising you if you allow for a little chaos in your living (indeed by allowing for a little chaos and following up every opportunity, today I found out I may co-production manage a stadium gig in Geneva, and all my Live Earth gig work at Wembley with Madonna's lot was thanks to saying yes to chance offerings). You'll meet nay-sayers along the way - some will be in terminal rigid fear, scared of losing everything whilst the only things worth truly holding onto are love, liberty and birdsong; some will be jealous of your freedom and creativity, and that's OK but don't spend time with people who keep trying to burst your bubble. Instead look for the positive reinforcement of action - fortune favours the brave. Don't be afraid of a bit of suffering now and again, with a sound mind and good heart you will never starve. Adversity informs creativity - the most creative, novel, groundbreaking work doesn't come from a 9-5 homogenised white bread lifestyle, but from the friction of real life. Bland lives make bland movies, and there are too many of those already. Be unique, find and revel in your uniqueness, it is what defines you and all you carry to the grave - and above all, enjoy the journey along the way.

Oh, and a sincerely happy birthday to you and all other FXHomlings too smile

Sooooooo, my birthday ended up pretty badass, albeit not having a party with friends like I had (kind of) tried to plan.

I got....

    -Banana Republic button-down shirt
    -GAP gift card
-Two Houndstooth (Arkansas University native brand) long-sleeved tees
-Smaller version of the duffel bag my parents gave me for Christmas
    -Some SWEET navy Chuck Taylor's
-Encyclopedia of Film Directors (several THOUSAND directors listed)
-Embroidered 'High Five!' pillow (inside joke, a family friend made it for me)

    and best of all...

a BRAND NEW Dell Inspiron 1520 running Vista Premium

I basically loved this birthday. For 18, not a LOT of special stuff happened, but the computer (which Atom DIDN'T get, hahahaha) wrapped things up nicely.

What a wonderful day!

For my birthday, I got into NYU (arguably the best film school in the world)... that's pretty much it! razz

Yeah everyone knows NYU is for the sissy Broadway actors/directors. USC is a man's school with a championship sports program. biggrin

Congrats on everyone in that age range turning 18. Welcome to the world of hot underage teenagers who want you to go to prison. I mean the world of being 'legal'. smile

Oh and Ben, I'm sorry you got Vista for your birthday. sad Was that a cruel joke by your parents? hehe

Hehe, sfb, for how many baad parts of the OS I've found, there are just as many good parts. Aero, animations, and little unnecessarily glowy nuances are exceedingly amazing surprises in this OS. When I double-click an icon, the subsequent animations/eye candy that follow make me feel like I just climbed Everest.

Equally appalling, however, is the poor UAC and security settings. Without even being connected to the Internet (arguably the only way to get a virus) I will click to open Control Panel and it will ask "Cancel or Allow: do you have permission to open the following folder: Control Panel?" And I'm sitting there, talking to the computer, like, "Yes, isn't that what I just f#$%king told you to do?!?!?

But I've since changed my settings and said 'reminders' aren't as bad. One other bad thing is how much space is taken up by the OS and its baggage. Without anything 3rd party but Quicktime and Adobe Reader installed and no files on the computer (from me) yet, there are 17 WHOLOE GIGS taken by the system. How? Why?

I dunno. I have also yet to adjust to the new positioning/layout of my new computer's keyboard, as is evidenced by the multitude of typos.

But I am still loving the Vista experience. Despite some quirks it does some things so much better I regret not upgrading immediately a long time ago.

Yes, well, I thought after hearing about what kind of shirts, gift cards, duffel bags, shoes, and embroidered pillows they got, we could liven things up a little! razz

And yes, looking back on what I said, it looks pretentious, so sorry about that, but then again, so is posting a thread about your birthday. razz

I love stuff. I also love having stuff. I think the thing I like most about having stuff is my ability to acquire more stuff and tell everyone exactly how much stuff I have. Gotta love the consumerism and one-upmanship that so neatly slots into life today.

Happy Birthday and all that guys. Last year for my 18th I got a laptop and hopelessly, hopelessly drunk. Congrats to you Evman.
