I've just been putting together a pack of blood splats for you lovely bunch to use in whatever depraved manner you see fit. All run at 30fps and can be easily composited into projects. As they are 100% CGI they retain they were rendered with the alpha channel and so can be imported into ELab/VLab, dragged and dropped onto the canvas and the background will be automatically removed leaving you with even the tiniest droplets intact.

Anyway, examples can be found here (note, the examples were rendered differently and won't comp in properly if downloaded): http://www.rawree.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/blood_hit_sample.mov
http://www.rawree.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/blood_hit_sample_2.mov

The pack is available here:
http://www.sendspace.com/file/4kftym

Alternative FXhome link:
http://tarn.fxhome.com/Blood%20Spatter.zip

Hopefully I'll be able to work on some more CG goodies for everyone but this should keep you going for a bit. More splats and different sizes/angles etc available on request, comments welcome.

Enjoy, and don't use them on anything too crap wink

Made in 3DS Max. Special thanks to Pete Draper.

Very kind of you Rawree, I applaud you clap

Those two samples are quite good and I would love to see what they look like graded onto a moonlit window because the download is unavalible here at the moment. Still, good work and cheers wink.

EDIT:- Never mind, a clean refresh sorted it, it's downloaded dispite the warning of the file containing thingys that distibute other peoples software. But I trust you Rawree, I do...wink

Where abouts does the warning pop up 'cause I've never had anything like that happen to me. If someone could host the files it'd save headaches from transferring files in this way (I personally wouldn't trust any big free provider of internet services as far as I could throw them).

Comped shot for you:

Nice stuff Rawree! The only advice I can say is to let the blood clips run longer. 2 secs is good if you need a quick shot, so if you could make it run about 6 secs that would be great. Other than that your effect making skills are awesome. Keep up the good work!

I'll see what I can do as far as longer clips goes (as the particles are controlled by "forces" rather than animation it might take a bit of tweaking to get right because obviously if I just render a longer section of the clip the drips will get long enough to leave the frame making the effect of much less use. With these clips you can always hold on the last frame for longer shots (they might stop a bit abruptly for realism though - I havn't been able to test them too much due to a lack of footage).

Thanks for the comments so far, hope some people find them useful.

Is that the samples or the actual stock? The actual ones are the standard Quicktime animation codec and I think the samples are Sorenson 3 if that throws any light on the problem.

Tip for those who want it to last longer: if your editing program has time remapping, have it gradually slow down. It will last longer and it will still look nice.

Good stuff Rawree. +1

these are good man. Seriously these look so much more real than some stuff I've seen. And thanks for giving them for free. I wish someday I'll be able to do stuff to help the community.

Since you said we could request, can you make one that looks like brain dripping down?( something that looks thicker) And is it possible for you to make bullet hits(like blood popping out of someone when they get shot)
If you can that would be great. +1 man good job

The problem when dealing with things like chunks of matter is that you start dealing with 3D rather than 2D which makes it a lot harder for things like shadows and lighting to match the composite video. With some tweaking it'd be doable on a project by project basis but trying to render something out as stock would probably result in the kind of results you'd get from the rendered AlamDv plugins.

Fantastic stuff! Always amazes me when people provide such excellent material to the community.

We're hosting the files on the FXhome server now too, so you can get it direct from here if you don't want to use the sendspace link:

Cheers Tarn, I'm never very comfortable hosting things at Sendspace etc.

RodyPolis: I've been messing around with some spurts and sprays and it will be possible to do some for you. It's a really quick effect, only a few frames long but adds a lot to link the spatter on the wall to the...erm victim. See what you think and if there's some interest from people I'll work on some variations and angles.

Blood spurt
Different angle

I imagine you could get something similar from the ELab particle engine but I'm not that familiar with it and don't know how it does with stuff like forces and motionblur etc.[/url]

These are great. I like both of them thanks.

For the angles I think it'd be cool to have one facing the camera. Like if someone gets shot in the chest.(when his chest it facing the camera)
Good job on the ones though.

Yes it would be cool (if a litle gross) to be able to simulate the effect of a blood spatter hitting the camera lens and running down the glass (great for offing zombies for example).

Thanks! It's very cool. By the way,it may be off topic. That's when I composite the blood on the wall, how can the blood layer resize the shape when zooming the wall. ( and I've done motion tracking.)

If you want to then that'd be great - I'm happy for anyone to host them to get them to as many people as want them really so the more the merrier I guess. The idea is to make them available to as wide a range of filmmakers as possible and so I'm happy for anyone to distribute them as long as they don't try charging for them or anything daft like that. Cheers smile

Now I'm done with my VideoWrap entry I should have some time to work on a few more goodies for the community.

I'll update them now. Will post the link here, when it's up (you know, my internet connection isn't that fast).

If you like I would set it to my homepage (when my new movie is released; the website comes with this movie), for free download (I live in Germany, so there's a whole new range). I think I don't have to tell that I would credit your name and stuff - I don't want to get cooler trough that, just wanna help smile

um...when you import the blood clips, it will ask you to choose an alpa channel, isn't it? Just choose straight-unmatted or premultiplied-matted with black, both can allow you to get rid of the black in blood.
i think you've chosen " ignore ".

you know i really cant understand why i didnt figure that out. I use after effects all the time and am very good at it. Such a simple mistake for a pro, but then I always click ignore usually so thats probably why i had so much hassle trying to fix it

Ok three things.

1: Awesome job! Very realistic.

2:Visionlab won't open this file type. How can I make it open the file?

3: Do you have any downloadable stock of like the spurt or gun shot or whatever everyone else was asking for? (Like when it comes out of someone because they were shot.)
