The teaser trailer for JJ 'Cloverfield & Lost' Abrams' Star Trek re-invention is online in glorious HD. There's not much to see but it sets the tone nicely and has some pleasingly epic effects. Click here to check it out.

I'm not going to tell you what I voted for, I can keep it a secret if I want smile

On a slightly more serious note, I should try and watch Star Trek and see if I like it when I get the chance (which is pretty much whenever on the SciFi Channel. That or Stargate SG-1 always seem to be on...)

Hehe, cool. Star Trek will always have my interest I guess. Have grown up as too much of a Trekkie to let it go. Allthough I could never get into the classic series. smile

I watched Star Trek 6: The undisovered country just the other day. That and "First Contact" are just really great films.

I love it. I'm way too cool at admit how much I like Star Trek, but man, I like Star Trek. My dad is a huge Trekkie, so it is ingrained into my DNA. I can't wait to see this on Christmas with my dad. The last time we did that was with Nemesis. Worst Christmas ever.

At least, no matter how good or bad this new film is, it will be better than Nemesis.

Hell, even Star Trek 5: The Search for Shatner's Ego was better, for comedy value if nothing else.

The problem with the recent Trek films is they've always though so small. The Shatner era really thought big (usually) and it felt suitably grandiose.

The Next Gen films all felt far too small scale. Even the excellent First Contact starts off with the promise of epic stuff, but very rapidly shrinks down into a much smaller film with a pig farmer inventing super technology randomly.

I'm really hoping that Abrams will not only bring a proper sense of scale and grandeur back to the franchise, but also the level of quality it deserves.

Such a shame that the Next Gen cast never had a truly classic movie. It's a similar situation to Brosnan's Bond - superb Bond, but none of his actual films were that great after GoldenEye.

Perfect analogy, Tarn. But the series made up for it, for it was the best (the only one I watched, yes, but I've seen enough of the others to know which is superior.) And I am looking forward to this. Not excited like The Dark Knight, Indiana Jones, and Iron Man excited, but excited nonetheless.

...The Dark Knight, Indiana Jones, and Iron Man...
I have to admit Indiana Jones interests me more, just to see if the old man can pull it off, and probably will smile
Not too sure about the sub title though, "Kingdom of the crystal skull"

And should Shatner be in the Trek movie? Erm! No, There isn't a cinema screen wide enough to fit him in.

Tell you what, when the credits role at the end, get him to sing a theme song instead. That will empty the cinema seats quickly ready for the next viewing. smile

I saw the teaser play right before Cloverfield yesterday and for some reason I got chills. I've never really gotten into Star Trek (I've enjoyed what few of it I have seen) but I can't wait for this film. smile
