FXHome login/screen names...

Some of us (like me, BMB) are uninventive, and use our initials or names. The Adams Family (Atom & Ben) seem to use a partial play on names.

Some like fxmaniac, dvstudio we can guess - they're pretty cool but generic names

Some are a bit more cryptic, but you can hazard a guess (b4uask...) where the name originates.

But some are far from obvious - Tarn (a type of Scottish brook??), FrostyG (Frosty I could guess as a nickname, but is it a common enough nickname to require an exa initial? Were Frosties A through F already taken?). er-no...Er, no I don't want a screenname??!?!

So, everyone, what makes you you? Go deep inside, share those dark secrets, what steered you to your screenname?! I was just so lazy by comparison!

There was actually a topic like this a while ago.
The name Jabooza Clog Booza is the name of a fictional character in comedic stories writen by Clawgaboozawgis (whose name also comes from these stories). Jabooza Clog Booza was my former name which I shortened to just Jabooza. I now use it for my name on practically everything, save account names for more "official" things (my account name on computers I use and on my Wii are both my real name), as well as my name on Mario Kart DS which is Tedward (an odd name that I came up with for no apparent reason besides being my alternate version of a full name for Teddy) but I sometimes change it to be "nobody", so if anyone ever sees either of those name (or Jabooza if I ever change it to that) while racing on wifi on Mario Kart, that's me. smile

Back in 1994 or so, when my family was signing up for internet service with Juno (now NetZero), I was about 5 and I insisted on having my own email account because, well, I thought it'd be cool.

So, one day, I popped up MS-DOS, got to Juno, and tried to sign up as simply 'ben'. It was obviously taken, but the suggested suffixes were like 'ben3192' or 'ben5403'. I landed on the last in the list, 'ben3308'.

So, 14 years later, here I am, still using the name I chose when I was but a wee lad. Another fun fact is that I actually chose the name 'Atom' as both a play on my last name and an advertising point for a failed project of the same name. My brother and I couldn't afford AlamDV as 12 year olds, so we waited a year or two and pooled money to buy the program with a credit card. We landed on Atom, and posted under the same username; until of course Tarn advised one of us get a different username (it didn't make sense to me at the time, as 'Atom' had Gold Usership).

Anyhow, I got a new name (with the proverbial '3308' added on) and just began posting under it. My postings ended up better for it, as I actually gained a *slightly* less notorious rep for what I've said and have received less negative ratings (though a lot of my -1's, roughly 20 or so, are actually from Atom, which is the reason he can no longer use his 'Rate Down' button) than I would've under the 'A'-begun lias. Also, Atom is sorta like Andrew, which is my brother's name. So I let him have it.

Anywho, ben3308 is simply a randomly-generated string of numbers following my name, and I have the good people at Juno to thank for it. It's funny, though, because 08 is actually my year of graduation.

As for changing my name (like sfb to Kin Rhymes, or swg33k to SWG then to Kyal then to Fill) I have got into contact with the owner of name 'Ben', but he has insisted, time and time again, that he wants the username for when he posts on the forums (which as of yet has been never).

Maybe the CSB guys can do something about him? biggrin

I didn't like my old screen name that I used for other things such as my email and other online accounts. So I tried to think of a different name for this site (which is now my screen name I use for everything).

While I was thinking of name to use for FXhome, at the same time I was uploading a Mentos spoof commercial I made to put on youtube. I had the lyrics of the commercial stuck in my head... "Mentos! The Fresh Maker!"

I got it! biggrin

And that's how FreshMentos came to be.

I happen to be a total Music Junkie especially with old rock like Rush, which happens to be the case with Rocinante. In one of the rush songs (cygnus X-1) it tells the story of a space captain sailing his spaceship into a black hole and the name of his ship happens to be Rocinante (its screamed loud and all cool and stuff) it also happens to be the name of dan quiaute's (famous book not sure if its spelt right) horse
Just kinda cool and it stuck with me when i was signing up on Fxhome

not a perticularily interseting story, it just kinda happened

plus the fact that a movie about a guy flying into a blackhole would be amazing

Well Rody is short for my first name, and Polis is just what happens when you say my last name at 100mph. It was originally created as an online fake name(cause I don't want my real name in those secret governments files) but then I decided to use it every time as a username.

My original username here was orion03040. I had wanted simply "Orion" but it was already taken (Seriously, has he posted anything in years?).

I chose orion because it's a SICK Metallica instrumental(off of Master of Puppets) the original "0304" was, like ben's, a random string of numbers. I've since then dropped the "0304" completely and added a "G" to the front. It's kind of a combination between "orion" and "Gogar", which is the all powerful Demon King that I've imagined up during interesting experiences with altered states of consciousness... so yeah. Now you know.

I used to be a pretty big fan of star wars a few years back. There is a series of books called the "Thrawn Trilogy" which is about Grand Admiral Mitth'raw'nuruodo, or Thrawn for short. It always struck me as a cool name, so I decided why not.

I was originally JMSG (what it stands/stood for will remain a secret) and I decided to get rid of my "kid name".

Digerati appears as number 3 on this list and media was added to make it slightly related to film smile

This and Evans Digital are the only place where I use this name (actually, on Evans Digital it's just Digerati). The online name that I use for everything else is 'batTUrd', but I wasn't sure if it would be considered offensive (seeing as how my account on TF.N was banned for that name, and more recently, my account on Wikipedia was banned too (after almost a year of being signed up and doing little contributions and edits, no less...)))

Mines basically the same story as as ben3308. Years ago I tried putting "Ben" to sign up to a website and it wouldn't have it so then when it came up with the random numbers on the end of it I thought about adding in a "3" instead of an E. Now here I am with "B3N"

What!? I always wondered where those guys went...

Anyway, my name does indeed mean 'mountain lake' - the kind of lake you'd find halfway up a mountain. It's also the name of a river in France.

However, it actually comes from a book I've been writing for a few years, and one of the main characters in it is called Tarn. I named the character after the mountain lake, as that's the kind of personality he evokes, and when I ended up at FXhome.com (before I worked here) I needed a name, so randomly chose a name from my book. It wasn't intended to be permanent, but it rather stuck. Of course, it does make a bit weird writing my book now, as people presume that the Tarn character is supposed to be me....ah well!

Occasionally I use an alternate name of Tranton, which is another character from the book. So if you see Tranton on the net, that's probably me too. smile

Sollthar is the name of a bad guy I created when I was 13 or so. He's the main villain in my movie "Turicon - The Legend of Sollthar", which actually isn't a film about ME, I just used that name since... since I've been connected to the net I think. smile

I got my internet access in 1994 and started using a program called "Westwood Chat". I needed a nickname so I picked "Sollthar". It's been my internet name ever since and will stay my internet name to the day I die. I don't believe in changing nicknames really. It's just odd. Feels like if I'd walk up to my friends and go "I'm not Marco anymore, call me Rupert."

Me and a friend wrote this comic book during first to fifth grade in school, which was a really "cute" story about a bird called "Redhawks" that escapes from the local icehockey team that uses him as a mascot. The book was called "Redhawks Rymmer" (Rymmer = escapes in swedish). So when I joined FXhome (or as it was known then, the old classy AlamDV.com website) in the end of my fifth grade I went with "Redhawksrymmer" - mostly because I didn't think you could have spaces in your username.

I guess most people around here call my just "Redhawk", but I still won't change it, due to the same reasons as Sollthar's, I guess.

So if you see a "Redhawksrymmer" anywhere around the web, it's a pretty safe bet it's probably me. smile

Cool topic and Rocinante - AWESOME handle smile Rush is my all time favorite band too -tooooo cool

Maybe I should change mine to By-Tor or something LOL - I got a buddy (not on this board) with "T4E" as his handle...

OK anyway - Geeks Gone Bad - buddy and me were throwing around ideas where we were going to make (in Lightwave) impossible connectors - like for instance a lightpipe to Midi adapter (lol) we thought it was funny anyway wink and we were going to put up a website and see how many people would try to order them (and make fun of them too) haha

We never made that website - but I'd registered the URL and now it's just stuck to me smile - it is kinda a spin off of Girls Gone Wild too - except I'm not a girl and I'm not that wild smile lol but I am a geek and I have turned to the dark side a few times! haha

Flying Fox, yeah, that's the name of a tropical fish (which by an incredible coincedence is swimmng around a fish tank to my left) that I rather like, and at the time I joined Fxhome I had recently got one of these "flying foxes" for my tank, so with no other inspiration, I decided to use that name.

It has no other personal reference to me, and no funny play on words like some people's but I'm happy with it for now.

(I am aware of the fact I have a picture of a fox as my avatar)

Back in the day of the PS2 I played Socom Navy SEALs online, my name was Silver Dragon7 (notice the space). when Socom 3 came out they didn't allow spaces in your name... So I went with Silver.Dragon7 (which is what I use where they allow . in your name).

If you see SIlverDragon7 - Silver.Dragon7 or SlvrDragon7 anywhere, it's probably me (easy way to tell is by the e-mail address, mine is silver.dragon7@hotmail.com).

Well my name is actually my old production companies name, BCN Productions (Black Cat Night Productions). It was called that in celebration of my new black and white cat, MIMI who looks rather cool I must say, and I had this idea for an alley way full of those beady eyes starring at a character as he walks through the rain at night. Hence the name Black Cat Night, and plus it sounded cool and rolled off my tongue. So it became BCN and I went on to make a bunch of films that I am not proud of; I made action films but I always got put off in editing when I realize we were just a bunch of kids driving a car illegally with crappy VFX and air soft guns and the films just lacked quality and realism, so I have now abandoned that name trying to put those films behind me. Those films are on youtube along with older stuff, but they are so embarrassing that I have not done a film in around 3-4 months; call it some time off to refine and improve my film-making. The end result is that I will continue to make films with the genre that I love, but the style will be different with more time put into it and at the same time I will not judge myself so harshly.
So that is the story of BCN Productions; a time in my film-making life which has allowed me to improve and gain experience that can only make me better, but with products I was not proud of, but yet they were not a waste of time.
So now seems a good time to change my name now I got that off my chest. My new name will be 'Adman', a play on my name as no doubt the future will bring more failed production companies, and that way they will not effect my FXhome name.

Plainly

Force: 1537 | Joined: 27th Dec 2006 | Posts: 767

There are several ways 'Plainly' is good for me, which are:
1- It's the kind of word you'd come by by opening a dictionnary--and I do, sometimes, read the dictionnary (in case you're wondering, yes, I am a lifeless loser--but the actual reason I read it is so I can improve my (French) vocabulary, thus slightly highering my chances at getting my book published)
2- My real name's 2nd letter is A, and there's an A in 'Plainly', which is a simply astonishing coincidence.
3- 'Plainly' starts with a P--and so does my last name.

However, as much as these are all very good reasons, the real reason is...

I was looking around my computer room, looking for a username, and my eyes dramatically stumbled upon a huge--and I mean, absolutely enormous--map of Canada, put there by my father. So I thought to myself, 'Bien, j'pourrais peut-être me faire un nom par rapport à où que je vis?', which is French for, 'Well, I could maybe make myself a name that has something to do with where I live!' (my ming always works in French, so, you know). So I figured, hey, I live in the prairies, the Canadian prairies. Thus, 'plain'.

But no one wants to call themselves 'plain'. I mean, you might as well call yourself 'Boring' or 'Lifeless' or 'Loser', names that would all fit my personality greatly.

But since it's the Canadian plains, I decided to put that in my name (and highly regretted it since). So, Plainly Canadian was born. 'Plainly' there to mean both 'obviously' slash 'clearly', or 'plains' slash 'prairies'. Then, later (as soon as I pressed the 'submit name' button, that is) I figured that P.Canadian was stupid, for 2 reasons:

1- I'm not particularly proud of being canadian or anything, thus making false impressions.
2- It was simply stupid.

So I made some presets, got a +1 or two, so I'd have more than 1000 fxperience ('force' ar the time) so I could change my name, keeping the yellow lightsaber.

And now, I'm simply 'Plainly'. It's very random.

Plainly

PS- (If anyone's still reading...) Actually, it's funny I mentionned 'Who'd want to call themselves "plain"?', cause my publisher's called, 'Les Éditions des Plaines'. Directly translated to, 'The Edition of the Plains', or 'Plains' Editions'. Well, at least, in French, 'plaine' doesn't mean 'boring'. it only means, well, 'plain'.

When I first stumbled onto the internet I had trouble with people not knowing the name Raurie (it's an alternate spelling of Rory) and so I came up with what I thought was a phonetic spelling of it. Given that I was 11 years old and stupid it wasn't a very good phonetic spelling and I think it may cause more confusion than it solved. Anyhow it stuck for a few years but I tend to use it less now because my name's unusual enough to be used to sign up for stuff.

Cool topic! Sadly my answer is not terribly interesting -

Back maybe eight or nine years or so ago, me and a few mates used to play counter strike occasionally - and I'd always play as the Arctic Camouflage counter-terrorist, so it seemed logical that I'd choose a username related to that.

Of course, being about 13 or 14, spelling it with a K seemed cool. I've always been a long-term fan of Mortal Kombat, so I expect that had something to do with my reasoning.

I think originally it was "ArkticWolf" (maybe even "ArkticWulf"?!) And then when I came to sign up for chatrooms and forums, I used the ArkticWolf nickname - or something similar, like ArkticMagi on a magician's forum I used to go on a lot... I eventually dropped the Wolf/Magi* bits and now I'm just plain old Arktic smile

Cheers,
Arktic.

* - Please note, despite all the Wolf and Mage/Magi references, I've never even so much as attempted to play Dungeons and Dragons, and I think long hair on men is almost always daft - especially when accompanied by a neckbeard. I just thought I'd clear that up wink

Mine came from a night of boredom.

A friend of mine and I were... well... quite bored. We were wondering what to do, and I made the offhand comment that grapes, when microwaved, can turn into plasma -- the fifth state of matter beyond a gas that also happens to be the ammunition of choice for the coolest science fiction weapons.

So we rummaged around his fridge for some grapes, and we couldn't find any. We DID, however, manage to find a single dill pickle, which we quickly stuffed into a tupperware container and microwaved it for 20 minutes. It came out as a pickle-shaped piece of charcoal MELTED to the tupperware container. There was a lot of steam, a lot of smoke, a lot of putrid-vaporized-plastic-smell, but no plasma.

We were disappointed, but before finding something else to do, my friend grabbed the pickle and wrote with it, "Halp i'm a pickle" on the concrete landing behind his house.

A few days later, I was on the MSN Gaming Zone about to play a game of Age of Empires II, and I was wondering what my name should be. And A_Pickle, the PC lover, console and Mac hater you all know and hate today, was born. biggrin

It was sometime back in '04, when this game called "Prince of Persia: Warrior Within" was coming out. In one of the exclusive trailers for it, the "Prince" shouted, "I am the prince of Persia, and the king of blades!"

And, coincidentally, I was, and still am, a sword/medeival weapon collector. So, with that really small notion about being the king of blades or whatever, I started using the name "kingofbladeslv" ("King of Blades"'s first debut was in the Fxhome forums razz) in all of the places that I go in the World Wide Web. biggrin

Mine's short for Academy of Utah Learning Advancement Group, which I founded in 1994 with a grant from the Guggenheim Foundation, and several independent investors. Unfortunately, it was shut down in 1998 after a series of investigations found myself and my colleagues guilty of tax fraud.

I got the name Koradin from my 2nd character (barbarian shaman) I created for Everquest back in 99, it was just something I picked from the name generator. I've stuck with it for most things since then, except for when playing Counter strike, I've always used the name Neddy The Mage which was my 2nd character in Diablo. The first name i used for both games was Sir Edgar.

My real name is Joel McDonald, therefore on FXhome I'm 'JoelM'

Really only have 2 other names, Jomper and MR.FUSION

Jomper is the name of my lvl 70 Night Elf Rogue in World of Warcraft which is part of my real name and part of one of my favorite movies, JOel and forrest guMP, so JO and MP, but I already had a warrior named 'Jomp' so I put an 'er' on the end to make 'Jomper' and have used that with most everything online.

MR.FUSION is from the text written on the side of the fuel-port on the back of the Delorian time machine from the Back to the Future movies, I just stuck with it because not only did I love the movies but it just sounds really cool. This was my first original name but haven't used it very much for anything these days.

Well my original user name was Woolgie, and it you take the first four letter of that you get 'wool' -> wool comes from sheep; a baby sheep is called a lamb, which also happens to be the surname of Gordon Lamb, a big new-car retailer in my area. Gordon shares his forename with Gordon Freeman, a fictional character made famous by the video game Half-Life. Half Life is a term used to describe the decay of radioactive material such as Carbon-14, or 'C-14'. If you change that C to a G you get G-14. G-14 is the name of a lobbying group made up of the some of the biggest football clubs in Europe. 'Football' is a term often used to describe the nuclear launch briefcase which follows the U.S. President everywhere. This 'football' is the basis of the story line in the 1997 film 'The Peacekeeper' in which Major Frank Cross must reclaim the briefcase from evil mercenaries, after they drop him from a 10th story balcony. 'The Briefcase' is also the title of a film script I have been writing for the last two years, in which one of the main characters is referred to as 'Mr Swarve'. Which brings me to my current name...almost...

If you take the second part of my previous name you get 'gie', which sounds like 'key'. A key goes in a lock. Locks are useful if you want to keep things out. 'Out' is a term often used in the sport of Baseball - apparently popular with Americans. Another term used in Baseball is 'Pitcher' - referring to the guy who throws the ball. A pitcher is also a large glass. Glass is great stuff and, in its most common form, is transparent. Transparent means you can see straight through it, a bit like Jack Bauer (of '24' fame) can see straight through lies. Jack Bauer is a fictional federal agent and is sometimes compared to the fictional British secret agent: James Bond. James Bond's code name is, of course, '007'. This therefore brings me to my current name....mr swarve007.

True Story.

Hybrid-Halo was my D&D name for my level 11 Druid. I'm still cooler than ArkticWolf over there though.

I used to want to become a herpetologist (still a hobby). I like snakes, Serpent sounds cool. I try to snag the username as it's fairly common. Otherwise I just use 'CPOStudios,' which is a name that has existed since I was 6-years-old, I remember writing it on the back of a 'create your own puzzle' kit.

When I was younger, a few people said that I reminded them of John Travolta's character, Danny Zuko, in the movie Grease. As I got older and put on some weight I was then told I looked like John Travolta's character, Vincent Vega, in Pulp Fiction... combine the two character's last names and you get ZukoVega...

Me as Vincent Vega razz

So while making our first very amature comercials,we made our own homemade sound effects, and we liked that. Unfortunately we have the production company name, but now we have to do stuff. Scripts being written soon.

RodgerDodger came from my love of movies, from classics like "Oliver Twist" to sci-fi, like the "Star Wars" series. So Rodger is a twist (no pun intended) of the "Roger, roger" dialogue of the battle droids, and Dodger is from the name "The Artful Dodger" from "Oliver Twist." I figure that pick-pocketing was, at the time, a form of sleight-of-hand or magic and that is what film-making is all about, sooooo....

My username comes from our production company name: SketchWork Productions Limited.

Now the question is why did we come up with that for our company name. Mainly because I always start my projects with sketches - I sketch project outlines on anything and everything when I am planning things and this happens everywhere on a train, on a plane or even in the middle of the night.

We are currently in pre-production on a £2.2M project - which Tarn will be releasing an interview with us shortly and this project started from a sketch I made in the middle of the night!

Avenging Eagle is quite a good name i thought. It was originally concieved as a player name for multiplayer games of that classic James Bond game "Nightfire". So far, i've named two spacecraft after it, nicknamed a hitman with it & named a racing team after it (The Avenging Eagles). And because of the close proximity of 'A' & 'E' (as well as shift) on a keyboard, i usually always sign off every post i make with my trademark 'AE' (consequently, many a forum-goer refers to me as 'AE'). Avenging Eagle has also been my name on Brickfilms, fxhome, anim8or.org, turbosquid and countless other sites as well as also being my player name in CoD2, Quake 3, Quake 4, FEAR and Star Wars: Battlefront.

Continuing in the same way, the name "Reeping Hawk" is a development of this which has been mentioned in several of my scripts.

Now, my production 'company' is named after my surname, "Tanner". "Tanner Productions" has officially existed since 2004, the name "productions" allowing me to brand it onto products of my other hobbies; game-making and 3D work.
