Without wanting to sound like a broken record, we're rather excited about this summer's Iron Man movie. There's a brand new trailer out which confirms what we've thought all along - this is going to be one kick-ass movie. Go check out the HD version over at IGN.

It's nice to see a more rounded trailer, both in terms of setting up the film and the more polished VFX. Now I'm really looking forward to what should be a very entertaining film. Good stuff!!

This now looks incredibly badass. I'm just curious as to whether or not they actually made the suit for real. Everytime I see it, it looks like CGI.

Hi Evman, The practical suit was designed and built by Stan Winston Studios. They've done an amazing job of making the suit very mobile and flexible from what I understand. I do agree that in a number of the shots in the trailer it appears they've shown off the cgi suit/character in action a considerable amount, I'm sure mainly as he's doing things they couldn't shoot in practical.

Regards

Good luck keepin' up. Yes, they made a few real suits of each version. Props maker Stan Winston, the genius behind Jurassic Park dinosaurs and the Terminator, created it if I'm correct.

Is Iron Man the best Humanoid Robot Suit (HRS) ever? I think it may well be.

What other classics have we had over the years?

Maria, C3PO, RoboCop, the Judge Dredd robot (was that a man in a suit? I can't remember)...

Iron Man certainly seems to be the best executed that I can recall. Stan Winston seems to have really outdone himself this time.

I still think that the tank shots look completely CG... Couldn't those easily be done with suits? Hope this doesn't turn into a "Star Wars Prequels Clones" thing.

I sincerly hope it dosn't. And I didn't think the prequel clones looked CGI. I know it was wierd of Lucas to show of CGI for sake of showing it of, but the clones were made by ILM and supervised by ILM supervisor John Knoll, they couldn't have looked any better.

Anyway (and feel free to flame me for this) if you look at the opening scene in A New Hope (which if you check my profile is my all time favorite movie for the record) the Stormtroopers really don't look like they've been trained on Kamino. Instead of moveing like Navy Seals, they move like a cross between LotR orcs and actors in unflexible suits.

I remember Lucas saying that ILM animators played the movements (motion capture) of the clones on Attack of the Clones, and according to him he could tell that they weren't millitary. I still think the movements of ILM animators in AotC looked more credible as trained millitary than in A New Hope. Anyway because Lucas could tell he hired real Ex-Navys to play the (smaller) part of the Clones in Revenge of the Sith.

My point beeing that I personally enjoyed CGI clones with credible movements, than Stormtrooper outfits with...whatever that was. The part where a Stormtrooper, boarding Leia's ship in the beginning of A New Hope, steps over a rebel body and turns his gun around a corner, always jerks me out.

EDIT: Trailer just finished downloading after I wrote this post, and may I say that it lookes AWESOME!!!1!! Darn that made my day.

I agree, and it perplexes me a little too. Although I have complete faith in Favreau. He's said he's tried to completely limit the CG version of Iron Man to flying and impossible things to do even creatively in the suit. Which makes perfect sense. Like Peter Jackson using real life wherever possible, then models, then CG.

Hopefully it all turns out good, although I really don't see how this movie can't.
