I want to say that I am still entering this. I have a monologue and shots written up and as soon as I am back in Texas on Wednesday I will be burning the midnight oil to get mine done and uploaded. See you all on Friday!

when you say the deadline is the 14th,
do you mean ON the 14th at Midnight, or the 13th at
midnight? I'm going to be one of those last second entries.
Me and my crew have spent about a month and a half on
this, and I want it coming out good.

We will be editing down to the wire....
Everyone is coming over tomorrow night to give input etc,
so its really a group effort....

And, is it midnight UK time? because that means I have to finish at
8:00 PM!!!!!

Hopefully I can Grab this one, mine is done MUCH differently from
the ones currently up there.

Quick question... Is everyone limited to one entry per person. I see that some poeple enter more than one entry... is this permitted?

Yeah I need that question answered as well. When is the actual time deadline? Is it the 14th at midnight (12:00am) or is it the 14th at 11:59pm? And if so, what time zone?? If that could be cleared up asap that would great... emphasis on the asap, ha

I need the deadlines as well. Are we going by GMT? If so, that would suck, considering that's like 8 o'clock over here, haha.

Also, is it due before Friday, or just generally on Friday.

If the latter, I can for sure get something produced and on the net. If the former, I'm not so certain. biggrin

Hey guys! The deadline is on the Friday, but we'll have some leeway time so cater for different time zones (as I don't think we specified that in the contest announcement vid).

As long as you submit it before the END of Friday 14th, wherever you are, then it's cool by us.

This comment just lifted a weight from my shoulders. I'm sitting in my car on my laptop in front of a Comfort Inn using their internet for a few moments because our phone service has been out for unknown reasons for the last few days and they say they won't be able to do anything until Friday so it has set my project behind schedule a little bit but it should be done before the end of Friday. I'll just have to jump back and forth between home and the coffee shop for net needs until its fixed. tard

I have filmed all of mine, but it has come out a lot more abstract than I intended. It's got all the street/urban/almost-makes-sense shots that Cover's Story and Marathon have, and the foreboding, nonsensical philosophy voiceover of Redemption.

So naturally, it's either destined for greatness.........or annihilation. I'll keep you guys posted, I'm gonna have to edit this tonight and head over to my friend's house to VideoWrap the render for YouTube.

Well, after losing my original actor and shooting a whole day with a different candidate, mine came out pretty good.

Expect it on YouTube soon. Also, is it pretentious to add a title card in the beginning of my response? Or is that taking things too far?

Nice one Ben! Make sure you reply with the video as a video response thingy to the contest, as yours doesn't seem to have shown up in our 'video responses' admin.

And after its done I have to work out how to remove time,

I had a title card on mine too, but yours is pretentious for an array of other reasons. wink Nicely done, though. It looks like it should be some life insurance commercial or something.

I planned it to be between a Vista "Wow" commercial and the Johnny Cash 'Hurt' music video. But you're right, it's pretty pretentious.

The script wasn't that way, but when I got to the computer shooting stuff, I found that there just wasn't enough room in the room to shoot all the angles I wanted with the lighting I wanted (a reveal of the kid unloading a tape from the camera and resting it on the desk, with the key light spilling onto the front of his face, still) and definitely not enough time to screencapture some computer footage using VideoWrap and then composite it into the frame.

Speaking of that, good luck, WhiteShark! If yours is this involved in visual work, I'm almost absolutely sure it's going to blow everyone else's out of the water. Here's hoping you get it trimmed down in time!

And holy crap! There's like 25 more entries this morning. It's gonna be an interesting day.

Holy crap.
If pretentious had a father you would be it.
I think you beat me with that one Ben.
It was so simplistic it kills mine.

Mine is a mix between,
the matrix, the borne ultimatum, and those
billy mays commercials.

For some reason video wrap compresses my files,
and it looks like CRAP when I upload it.

Haha, Thrawn, I'm just happy people don't think mine sucks. I was actually contemplating not putting it online. A lot of the things I wanted from the script didn't quite come through in the end. I went from trying to make something like 'Who is Bert Didier?' to trying to emulate part of the style of Robert Deniro's American Express commercial.

CX3, I'm VERY interested to see yours. I'm already going to assume it is beyond hilarious. biggrin

WhiteShark, maybe in times as desperate as these, it's wise to ditch some of the effects and focus on rendering everything to a compressed file and uploading it to YouTube.

It's already roughly 2:20 here, I dunno what time zone you are, but either way time must be dire. I'm very worried for you, be it known! biggrin

Well, I've made mine. Uploaded it by midnight, too! I clicked to make it a video response but nothing has shown up yet. I tried again but it won't let me, which I guess means that it's processing it or something.

Either way, I hope I'm counted. smile My Splinter Cell/high contrast/pretentiousness spoof completely failed because Ben can't act, so I scrapped it completely and did something else.

It's not like I diden't try to get it finished by the deadline.
It's just so epic it was virtually impossible to do so...but hey!
I've got a job interview in 3 hours...no big deal..lol.

My crew as at my house, EVERY DAY this week from 5-10 working on it with me, after I had already been working on it by myself for 2 weeks. The full quality version is much more worth watching. It looks great that way.

Its at 4300 frames of 9000 -_-

So, I just watched as many of the entries as I could.

24 of them of the ones I've seen have directly-noticeable copyrighted music or video. And that's not including ones with footage from games like The Movies, Sims, etc. If we're going by YouTube rules, all of these are disqualified.

Yikes.

Didn't get mine in before the deadline and don't think I could have. For some reason the auto from the footage was corrupt and just sounded like a very unpleasant digital screeching sound, and the video itself was drifting over 5min long. These factors along with our phone service going down from Tuesday through Friday and 40 hours with no sleep by Friday morning trying to fix some of the problems made me decide to sadly step out of the competition.

Even though its not going to be in the competition, here is a clip from my entry. There wasn't supposed to be music here in the beginning but because the audio was corrupt it just seemed empty without anything at all. Its hard to see how this could ever be related to VideoWrap but in the end it makes sense.

Another reason why mine took such a long time,

WhiteShark, I can imagine yours would've taken a long time, it's very good. While there are a couple of things I don't particularly like, the "I hope you brought enough for everyone" line is delivered extremely well, and the masked cut when the guy pushes the cart is the icing on the cake.

I'm not sure I completely see how it all makes sense completely, I got the general message, though. VideoWrap basically enhances videos, and you portrayed that well. At least it's not as simple and vague as mine, right! biggrin

The music and sounds, too (Designer Sound FX, methinks?) are well placed and well timed. I, too, have feelings of trying to be original (no brands or copyrighted media visible in the movie, no copyrighted music/sounds) that conflict with some of my opinions of other, copyright-using entries. I wouldn't worry, as we all have different opinions on what appropriately fits our pieces. Personally I think copyrighted music has already been used somewhere else, so it doesn't feel like it 'fits' my videos.

But for some people it works. To each his own, right?

Aaaaand.....

JoelM, that clip is amazingly cinematic and very well shot. Were you cinematographer/gaffer, and what camera did you use? It's a damned shame you had to drop out, that has the makings of a really great piece!

Aaaaaalso.....

Tarn/FXhome team, when do you think you'll be done judging the entries? I don't need to know now or anything, I guess I'm just curious. biggrin There are really so many great ones (Anyone seen "I Make it Nice", haha) that it really is anyone's game at this point.

This is gonna be one hell of a competition! eek

Not trying to "bust your balls" I guess they'd say ha but Ben, theres a huge shot of "DELL" in one of your last shots. Its on the shot of the computer that pans up to his face at 00:55. I honestly noticed it the first time I watched it but I didn't know how lenient the rules were so I figured "eh, I guess it doesn't matter" but wouldn't that be considered as copyright as well?

I don't think copyright will matter a whole lot.. I mean, 2/3 of the entries had Ipods, PSP's, etc. And what was with the guy that was posting as Ben... I guess he deleted his post, or maybe I'm imagining things...

Pshh, my entry did not turn out as planned (at all) but it's alright...

Haha, you're right man. I hope I don't sound like a huge hypocrite. The Dell on the monitor was sort of unavoidable because every monitor I know/have access to has one of those bill DELL's stamped on the back, haha.

I was speaking of something more in the vein of something that could easily be changed, like wearing a t-shirt with a big Nike swoosh for the entire video, or naming the main character Indiana Jones, Luke Skywalker, or the like. Or having a movie premise that revolves around holding copyrighted DVD case after copyrighted DVD up to the camera. Things that hinge on copyrighted items.

But I just might be a cynic here. biggrin

EDIT: My friend was logged into my computer from when we played Call of Duty yesterday. My bad! (We're gearing up for this year's 24 hour competition!!)

EDIT2: My Firefox bookmarks are all gone. WTF? How do you open the profile manager?

Plainly, I actually meant Firefox's Profile Manager, not FXHome settings. I know now, though. It's Start>Run>firefox.exe p-

Also, I forgot to mention that I loved CX3's. Maybe not as much as Curtis Cartwright on Cap'n Crunch, but it was still really, really funny. I think the pacing was a bit wonky, but other than that, good stuff.

Thanks for that comment, I was everything except the person on screen who was my brother and as for the camera, I used my old Canon ZR85. Hopefully if there is another competition in the future, things will work out a bit better. biggrin

Two things:

Joel, you sure know how to get an image out of your camera. The lighting is also, in my opinion, magnificent in that particuilar clip.

Thrawn, I'm sure the FXHome team will get back to us with a verdict soon. Remember they have roughly 97 video responses to watch, in which they not only have to rank the ideas/execution of each, but weed out the some of the useless, frivolous responses as well.

It's quite a task, so I'd wait at least a few days, maybe a week from two days ago until we hear any word on the contest. biggrin

I just I do well with my video (http://youtube.com/watch?v=JvZZjrhKd_E) and maybe score one of the hunnert-dollah prizes. I doubt I'll get the grand prize, seeing as this was a video-making contest, not one for animation.

Fyce, when I was sitting and watching all the videos, I made a list of my picks for the top five.

Needless to say, your video was on it. Top notch stuff, styled animation looks good, too. Like an Esurance commercial or something. Not sure I get it completely, but I still like it!

That, 'Zombies!' and the one where the guy carries his TV everywhere are the ones I think will win. I could be wrong, though. I'd also like to think mine has at least a fighting chance as well.

I really learned a lot from making this video.
A ton actually. And it changed me from being a friendless anti social person, to someone who is relaxed in any situation, and has good friends to back me up. I bet the FXhome crew diden't think making this video contest would change someones life at all? ? razz

1. Don't shoot a fight scene in public. People think you actually are shooting each other. They also think GL-2's are panzersheks, and the police don't really care, they will still point their guns at you even when they see the camera.

2. Don't get so into editing you forget how much food you ate, and eat so much it reverses direction at 5:30 in the morning, as you are submitting your film.

3. Don't turn into George Lucas with star wars. Special effects are cool, but don't make the film revolve around them, then forget what you should be shooting.

Here's the problem with the video. I wrote a 5 page script, (which you can read here http://home.comcast.net/~wolfpitwhips/fedcroncopy.pdf The script was actually a lot funnier.) and I ended up not even shooting to the script because 2 of my actors dropped out. It went from 6 people, to 4 people, ON the day of the shoot, and I had to compress 6 characters into 4. And then we hit another road block, when the police showed up during the filming, and almost had us shot with a high powered rifle, and this happened AFTER I had called the police and informed them this would be going on. So this video really went over some rocky roads to get where it is now, but it really diden't turn out how I wanted it to. It has showed me though, that I need to return to my "roots" so to speak. Filming more on story than visuals.

My next Film is going to be in B&W. With no effects. And no fancy titles or anything.

WhiteShark, the things you list are more or less things I've learned in the past year or so, and they really help; although I wouldn't advise not using any color or titles. I contemplated putting 'Messages' in all black and white, but it looked better with a golden tone. Simple formats are good, but not always better.

Sometimes in attempts to cut our losses, we lose more than we think in oversight. I wouldn't cut out titles, nor would I discount effects completely. Rationing your effects, however, is a better idea. I used to try to do effects extravaganzas when EffectsLab first came out, but since then I have used it from time to time for smaller nuances like luminance/overexposure flashes during badass cuts (e.g. the holding the kid shot in Marathon).

What I'm basically saying is that you should be careful in the decisions you make regarding the complexity of your movie. Don't underscore your effects: the explosion near the end of your entry, in particular, was worth the effort. I'm also sure the FXHome guys enjoy seeing their products being used well. biggrin

And while we're posting out original scripts, here's the stuff that was cut out of mine...

Original script wrote:

Missives ripple across the earth everyday, announcing our thoughts and ideas. Above it all, everyone has a message.

Cut through several static, close-framed shots of newspapers (unrecognizable articles), telephone poles, a mailbox, and other forms of expressing a message.

The world lends its inspiration to our causes, flooding our minds with possibilities.

Cut to boy looking at downtown, nature, a car, and the general beauty of the aesthetics of the environment. Shots of dripping water, ants moving, the hum of large streets, sirens blaring as an ambulance flies out of Methodist, people laughing, kids playing at the park, etc. General stuff in life that is interesting to observe.

Even then, we struggle with our words, searching for clarity. Our messages become muddled in our search for undeniable truth.

Obviously, once these quotes were cut in the edit, the clips for them were reworked to pace the movie differently. But still, the general 'capturing the beauty of life' and 'conveying important messages' themes still came through.

May the best video win. Good luck to all of you. Everyone expressed their best ideas and that is what making films is all about. There are alot of great films to compete against.

My opinion on CR materials, it is extremely difficult to film and not either advertise or infringe on some kind of material. If you use a AK47 in your flick, everyone knows it is an AK47. If you film a lamborgini, it is difficult to hide who made the car. I think infringement is mostly based on people selling something that doesn't belong to them or flat out stealing it.

I used to deal with these things in a video game project that I own. WWW.Artificiallifestudios.com
Artists who own the content really dont flip out if you show it to other people. It is when you sell it that the problem starts. I am not quoting Copyright laws and in no way do I think I know the law. This is just my opinion on the topic. Mostly to just shoot the breeze because I am bored. smile

A good example is when someone makes a spoof about some movie star. I see hundreds of Miley Cyrus videos on Utube and I am sure miley isnt mad about it. It promotes her. I do not think anyone should use CR material if they plan to sell a film. That is a definate no no.

The contest rules only stated that
1.Entries can be a maximum of 5 minutes long. The shorter the better in most cases.
2.The videos have to be positive about VideoWrap!
3.You've got to include the VideoWrap banner at the end of the video -- more details on that in a moment.
4.All entries must be submitted by March 14th 2008.
5.You've got to have a PayPal account so that if you win we can send you your prize. Signing up for PayPal is totally free and very easy.

Great comments all and keep on filming.

Hey troyesleygann, the FXHome crew said that as videos must be uploaded as video responses on YouTube, they must accord with YouTube's Terms of Use, which requires that no video infringe copyrights.

That pretty much knocks anyone who showed an Ipod, Psp, xbox, computer, the matrix bit in one video out of the competition. I guess we will find out. The rules said nothing about it. I even emailed them to ask about a week ago. I did not get a response yet.I could have easily edited my film to remove the characters.

The reason they wrote the rules was for us to use as a guideline. If it wasnt wrote in the rules, then it wasnt important. I personally think everyone is safe.

Anyhow, good luck guys. One of us will win the prize for the most creative film. I wish you all the best but, I hope I win. I am eyeing a camera so I can get my filming back on track. My camera kinda went to a friends and never returned. sad Well not as it was when it left.

I'm not trying to bust your balls about this, but it's not okay to just brush off copyright violations. They're illegal, and I think a lot of people are missing that.

troyesleygann wrote:

Items such as PSP and iPod I think can be considered part of Fair Use because of their simple nature as a media device, but blatant rips like using music or actual video clips (from the Matrix, etc) is sort of unacceptable, both according to YouTube's Terms of Use and the general rules of making anything for money (even in this case, though it's a contest).

The reason they wrote the rules was for us to use as a guideline. If it wasnt wrote in the rules, then it wasnt important. I personally think everyone is safe.
I'm sure a lot of people will be safe. I'm also pretty confident people who use iPods in their videos are safe. But people who use copyrighted tracks (like KoreanSoccer's use of "Dirty Little Secret", which he later removed from his video) are not only skating on thin ice for the contest, but their videos face deletion on YouTube. I'm not saying this so much as a threat, but a worry.

I am a bit of a cynic, as my videos Barbie Girl and Afternoon Delight both use copyrighted music. But I generally try and shy away from using materials that either aren't mine or I don't have permission for. Even with films in which I have used artist Sean Beeson's music, like Marathon, Cover's Story, or Redemption, I have always asked he fax a signed release form just in case.

Also, it's often decidely easier to download any copyrighted music of your choosing and use it in your video than to search through licensed or copyrighted-free tracks and fnid something that fits your video. What's more, it's an even rarer thing to find a piece actually composed for you, as 'Two Brothers' by Tommy Gunderson was for Madison Street Boys. (It's the track used in "Messages").

What I'm trying to say is that people take extra time to find, coordinate, and apply the licensed music they use in their videos, and it somewhat diminishes these efforts when others just slap on a James Newton Howard track. I'm not really talking about my own movie here, rather, ones like "I Make it Nice" that actually use original, tailored music that probably took a bit of time to write and produce.

I dunno, I would just be careful about making too many assumptions about the copyright issues. It's generally better to err on the side of caution, in my opinion. But to each his own, I guess. wink

Again I'd like to stress that I'm not trying to 'start something' with you, as it were.I guess I'm just anxious about the competition results and am trying to find something to talk about while we wait. biggrin

Digressing, that's EXTREMELY unfortunate about your camera. Can you track down these friends and get it back? I know too well how equipment can 'walk off' from the set after completion, and I'm adamant about gettings things back. Is there any way to resolve this, short of (obviously) simply buying a new camera?

I am not insulted by anything you mentioned. Everyone has an opinion and opinions are important. I agree with pretty much everything you stated. We both(ALL)have done it at some time. I will say though, I am not a film director with a budget to spend on sound tracks, sets and hire actors. I do what I can with what I have. One day, it might turn into more.

But, I will stand by the rules that were stated in my previous post. Everything is game right now based on the rules stated in writing. Everyone knows you can't change the rules of a poker game during the game. But hey man. Good luck to you. You have some skill at filming and a good eye. That is what counts in directing. (Your perception and how to get the viewer to see what is in your mind.)

Great work everyone. Proud to be a part of the group.

(EDIT) I forgot to respond about the camera.
I did get it back but the lens was scratched and it eats tapes. The friend is no longer in the picture because they do this sort of thing on a regular basis.

I'm not sure its safe to assume based on the written rules for the contest that since they don't mention it, its ok to violate international copyright law. I don't care what the rules for the contest are, they can't make something that's illegal legal.

Sigh...... I think things are getting a bit outta context. I never once said it was ok to use CR material. One second, I am reading over what I stated to use quotes.

troyesleygann wrote:

I don't mean to sound like I am saying it is ok. I just wanted to point out that sometimes, it happens. smile FXhome does have Xwings, Yodas and all sorts of starwars related items to download. So I do not think I am breaking some serious ground here. The word XWING, SITH, YODA ect are plainly written beside the pictures of the content.

I will give you an example though. You buy a mask for trick or treating, you wear the mask that year and decide that you are going to use that mask in a haunted trail that you charge money to get into. Did you know you just broke a CR rule. You are not permitted to use the mask in that way unless you recieve the rights to do so. It isnt written on the mask anywhere but it is infact an implied law. These laws are wild sometimes.

Other unrelated instances that comically relate to this discussion, you are not legally allowed to discuss legal matters with anyone unless you have a degree in law. The most you are permitted to say is you need to seek legal council. lol You can look that one up.

In ending, some of you are assuming that the content mentioned in the above posts is infringed. How do you know that the content was not bought for one time use. There is a one time use contract that can be bought very cheaply given certain circumstances for Indiana Jones and Starwars related content from Howard.roffman@lucasfilm.com.

Looking for a great musician? Ryerson sound located in Canada. Ryerson-sound.com Great musician!

Thanks guys for the input. "It falls not on deaf ears."

If you're worrying about your video specifically, troy, I'd say your argument with the Star Wars stuff isn't nearly strong enough. It's somewhat ridiculous to try and compare it to a halloween mask.

I've seen your entries and the Star Wars one clearly rides entirely on the intellectual copyright of Star Wars, uses several copyrighted characters, pictures, tracks of music, and only lends something new in the actual dialogue.

While it's clever and somewhat funny (although I'd object to parodying/idioticizing someone deceased like Steve Irwin so soon), I don't see how this could be labeled simply as confusion about copyright or something vague like your early example, the AK-47 in a movie.

Your entry is, quite clearly, largely breaching copyright as YouTube rules stipulate. I'm not trying to be a hardass about the rules and I'm sure FXHome will have some small amount of leniency, but if you were worried your video specifically I'd say you're likely out of luck for the contest.

A point I think I realized in making my submission to the VideoWrap contest is that they aren't paying $1000 for nothing, they're paying for your idea, in film. We weren't just supposed to propose scripts and shots (concepts of which I have plenty for several other VideoWrap ideas I had), rather, we were to follow through with our videos all the way through post to show the FXHome crew.

When I considered this, I started to think more and more about the reason for the contest: it's to get ideas for what they want to do, yes, but it's also to present your ideas in the form that you give them.

For instance, the FXHome guys could easily have just asked for ideas with storyboards, directors notes, and the like and taken those to a videographer to be fleshed out into a real film. Instead, however, they counted on the ideas of their users: ideas that spawned films where both the idea and the execution have to be good for the film to be of any substantial quality.

If the idea is good enough, people will ignore quality (Anyone see Chris Crocker on YouTube? The concept of a southerner spouting gay histrionics, no matter the quality, is still a big selling point) but if the idea is moderate-to-good then the quality will need to be appropriate. Because FXHome attracts such a breadth of users, the ideas they get, coupled with the variety of execution makes for quite a few entries they can use as a clever, 'independent' advertisement right out of the box.

With copyrighted music and video, most particularly, they can still have fun watching the short, but it would be largely inappropriate and irresponsible to use such materials in part to market the program that they're trying to sell.

Does this make sense?

FX Presets that are free to users and made by users are one thing, an ad to sell a program and make money is another thing. biggrin

Again, I digress. I'm still occupying my time here by debating, probably mainly for the sake of waiting out the verdict. crazy

Krikies! Lotta swords comming out. You guys really want to win. I understand. I wish to win also.

In defense of the Erwin statement. I love that guy and impersonate him quite often. I, in no way was idioticizing him. I added him in there as a fun change of pace. No one expected to see Erwin. Every eye sees everything in a different way.

In defense of my ridiculous comparison of the mask. I do not feel that way. It relates. Maybe not to you. But to me it does. I work in that field yearly. Why do they sell commercial masks? The latex is more expensive? You are buying the right to use it to make money. Implied law is real.

I really don't understand why you guys try to butter up statements with I don't mean to bust your balls when you are actually trying to. You make a nice comment and follow it with a not so nice comment. The funny thing is that the person you are usually talking to bites it hook, line and sinker. It isn't the words that count but the wrapper. It is really the other way around. A bag of dirt is still a bag of dirt no matter how pretty the bag.

On an off note, my first submission was without the characters and simply had voice only. I recieved a few posts about how it seemed lacking in that region and in trying to do a better job, I listened and did what I could.

It is all in fun though. I put quite a bit of time into my submission. Anyone who owns fxlab can relate to that. I am seriously new to FX lab, only having it 2 months or so. I am looking for any thing right now to further my skills and help me learn to use the program to it's fullest.

Don't think that I am not listening to your comments. I am picking up tips and tricks from you all. For my submission, it is to late to do anything about it. I have to ride this out and see how it goes. I already know what I have in it. There is no reason to be rude to the new guy. Peace!!!!

I think everyone has some waiting for results jitters. No hard feelings fellas. I think we all got off on the wrong foot here. Once again I wish you all the best of luck.

Sure, I want to win. But I'm not trying to diminish your work to put ahead my own (which isn't "Messages" by my brother Ben). I just see it to make clear the copyright rules as they were outlined to a fellow entrant in the rules. Even a superuser put it far more bluntly than anyone else:

I'm not sure its safe to assume based on the written rules for the contest that since they don't mention it, its ok to violate international copyright law. I don't care what the rules for the contest are, they can't make something that's illegal legal.
You say the rules weren't clear or not specified to those entering regarding the contest. I'm merely contesting that as an entrant myself. There's no need to look for a hidden agenda or otherwise. There simply isn't one.

You seemed vehement to understand the clear cut rules of the contest, likely in fear of breaching them. I'm just trying to offer my opinion/outlook on it all. It's all just fun, and always was. There's no need to see it any other way, really. But I think we all agree on that to begin with.

Well, firstly I'm sorry for dirtying up this thread with long-winded debates, haha. Here goes...

What? No no no no no no....you have me all wrong.

I just get pissed about this copyright thing. Yeah, I'd like to win, but even if the copyrighted-using entries are accepted, they're still breaking law. I said this same thing about Evman's Vivification when he released it in the cinema, when I had nothing competing against it. I'd be saying these same comments, even if I hadn't submitted a video of my own. Atom actually has a video full of copyrighted stuff, so I have no idea why he's even touching this argument.

I also don't know what 'sword' I've thrown at you, as I have always and still maintain I mean good, no harm. biggrin As Marathon's mantra stated, it's not about winning. If it was, I wouldn't be praising the efforts of my colleagues in this thread as I have done, I'd probably be trying to tear them to pieces.

I really don't understand why you guys try to butter up statements with I don't mean to bust your balls when you are actually trying to.
I'm honestly just a little perturbed that so many people abused copyrights in this contest without a. seeing anything wrong with it, even knowing of its illegality or b. not even realizing it was wrong. This isn't about what my video has and what your video has. To be honest, I have no idea which video is yours, haha. biggrin Again, this is not a personal thing and doesn't have to do with winning. I just don't like when people are oblivious to copyrights and the usage of other people's labors.

It's obvious to me now that you understand this as well, but when you first vehemently defended it, I felt a little....pissed off.

I hope you realize my point in defending what I have, and I mean you no offense, honestly. I am just basically trying to say the same thing Axeman said; granted, in probably too many words. biggrin

And if you felt that this was a 'picking on the new guy' kind of thing, then I really, really want to apologize: that's not at all what I was trying to do. But I guess it seems that way when two people follow up what I say with similar criticisms, haha. In my last post I was sort of just trying to communicate how even a great idea is useless as a marketing tool if it features the unpermitted work of others.

I hope we're square, bro. No hard feelings.

Well, that's never happened before. razz

We'll announce the winners by the 28th at the latest, but it'll most likely be before then. It's going to take us a little while to go through them all. smile

Thanks to everyone for entering, there's some really great stuff in there!

Whoo, Tarn's posted something! And I'm glad he appreciates my concession. wink

Only ten days until a verdict....yikes, now I'm more anxious than ever. Short of my own (which I am REALLY praying for, haha) my hopefuls are "I Make it Nice", "Zombies!", the one with the TV in the bathroom (though I think we've all had similar ideas, he actually had the guts to go through with it!), and Fyce's esurance-style bit.

Watching closely, the animation and smoothness of shots when the character uses VideoWrap in Fyce's happens so fast it honestly makes me want to buy the product. What's even more amazing is that when I go to my friend Chase's house and see him finishing up a video for the web, VideoWrap actually does move that fast! biggrin

The one thing that worries me about awesome ones like Fyce's is that maybe things happen a little too fast, and it's difficult to tell what all is going on when he exports the video. Conversely, though I love 'Zombies!' I did find it to be a little too slow for my tastes, as it wasn't until the very end that the positive message about VideoWrap was presented. Still, great stuff.

A lot of good ideas came through in this contest. I wish mine had been a bit clearer, but at least the catch-phrases near the end ('compress our thoughts', and whatnot) are still pretty...um....catchy, haha. biggrin

Congrats to everyone who entered, there really are some great ones, copyrights aside.

Thanks guys for your thoughts on my comments. I dont want to sound like I know everything. I just sometimes get a bit defensive maybe. I really have no hard feeling either. Lets start this over lol.

Howdy, I am Troy and I am a Flordia resident with hopes to one day make a job of what I enjoy to so much as a hobby. I hope the most creative work wins. I know you all put in alot of late night hours editing to meet the deadline.

I personally like the short by Farmorethanlke. I liked his work alot. I also think that Tcolloca with his Tv was good also. I could see the film on Tv. Great job and don't give up no matter how hard things seem to get.
