The BBC are reporting that award-winning director Anthony Minghella has died at the age of 54. Best known for the films The English Patient, The Talented Mr. Ripley and Cold Mountain, Minghella was also an accomplished writer, working on many classic televisions shows including Grange Hill and Jim Henson's The Storyteller. His latest television production, The No.1 Ladies Detective Agency, will be broadcast this weekend.

Ah, man. I didn't know this guy on a movie-to-director knowledge base, but the name is familiar and The English Patient and his other films are obviously memorable.

May he rest in peace.
